Mark Goudeau To Jury Who Convicted Him: "I Am Not A Monster."

Categories: News
We have a friend who wishes "scientists" would be allowed to study the brains of incarcerated serial murderers. We try to explain that it sound like something the Nazi "Angel of Death," Dr. Josef Mengele, might be keen on.

Mark Goudeau--One step closer to death row
Specifically, our friend (a local businessman) is referring to Phoenix's most recently convicted serial slayer, Mark Goudeau, who forever will be known as the "Baseline Killer."

Naturally, we, too, wonder what makes guys like Goudeau turn into mad killers that terrorize communities until, hopefully, they are caught.

Yesterday afternoon, Goudeau spoke directly to the jury and steadfastly denied any responsibility for the myriad violent crimes for which he now stands convicted--murders, rapes, kidnappings, armed robberies, and so on.

In his speech, he never even threw a backhanded bone to his victims, alive or dead, by saying how badly he feels about what happened to them--whoever might have done it.

Finally, after several months in trial, Goudeau now is but a jury verdict away from being sentenced to death row for the 2005-06 murders of eight Phoenix women and one man.

The panel will return to its duties after the Thanksgiving holiday, November 28 to be exact, when it will hear closing arguments in the penalty phase of the trial.

Prosecutors badly want the jury to sentence Goudeau to death.

The 47-year-old Phoenix man and his attorneys are asking jurors to spare his life. Goudeau already is serving a life sentence for the sexual assaults of two Phoenix sisters in September 2005.

Here is our recent in-depth story on Goudeau and the Baseline case, so-called because his first known crimes (a series of sexual assaults) after being paroled from prison in 2004 occurred on or near Baseline Road in south Phoenix.

Predictably, Goudeau blamed others for his current situation--especially his attorneys, whom he said did not do their jobs for him. He was correct in that the defense team called no witnesses on his behalf, including the defendant himself.

But here was just one of the rubs: The defense DNA experts (and this was in large part a DNA case) would have pretty much agreed with the state's analysts--Goudeau's genetic material was on several of the victims.

For purposes of brevity here, let's just say that Goudeau's "fingerprints," as it were, were all over this case. Whatever strategy they employed, his lawyers (actually, Goudeau himself) were screwed.

The jury found him guilty for good reason.

We will never forget Goudeau's opening line to the jurors, who stared at him stone-faced during his six-minute allocution.

"Hi guys," he said to the panel, smiling at them nervously. "Finally, you get to meet `the wolf in sheep's clothing.'"

Goudeau was referring to a phrase that the prosecution team (Suzanne Cohen and Patricia Stevens) must have employed a hundred times during the course of the months-long trial.

In the style of Sheriff Joe Arpaio ("This Sheriff will not tolerate..."), the killer often used the dreaded "third-person" to explain himself.

"They painted me as a monster," he said of the prosecutors. "Mark Goudeau is no monster."

Suffice to say, a bunch of folks, including the 12 citizens who will decide his punishment on the murder convictions, disagree with him on that point.

Okay, whatever you are, you get a bullet in the brain.

I will do it for $100 and a 12 pack of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

What else to youexpect prosecutors to say about Mark? What I wonder about is how so-calledjournalist Paul Rubin is ok completely misrepresenting the facts, boldfacelying, and ignoring the evidence of corruption and collusion by a handful ofPhoenix dics like Alex Femenia. Femenia who is Rubin's buddy, so Rubin willprint absolutely anything Femenia tells him. Not objectionable reporting at allbut a steady flow of propaganda. Like the Nazi’s did to the Jews. Say it enoughtime and people will start to believe it.

I understand now though your bondwith Femenia when I saw you both in court the other day. Two small, diminutivelittle guys, Paul with his high pitched voice. Femenia all bent over and gray.Hey it's not Mark's fault you two where shorted (ha! pun intended) in life withphysical curses of being effeminate and small. So go on you little monkey and keep misinforming the public. We willhave our day.

Hey Paul, or James,This guy is finished one way or the other, he is a ghost... dead man walking and of no consequence. But, it would be very interesting to find out more about the wife. Is she still around? Is she stupid? Is she in denial? What is her problem? What are her plans?

A documentary shown in England argued from tests by psychologists psychotic dangerous patients were simply"wired up differently" , of course based on experiments most of us would never undertake. As for Mengele his body fluid splattering trauma creating experimentswere so far from explainable my way of understanding him is that all phenomena, violence, height, or secondary sexual characteristics for example follow an inverted bell curve ranging from little to a lot with the average being the majority. Therefore Mengele cam be explained statistically, the Dali Lama being somewhere at the other end. Intelligence agencies go by description, or behaviour....that works, genetics, or eugenics  is best not slavishly held upas a principle....behaviour being the key for most of us, since with Mengele description has been corrupted in the telling. Try googling "How tall was Mengele" look for the bit by Tim Baber, in fact look for anything by Tim baber and Monarch Programming, for Mengele's work, still supressed today , was he as "Father of Monarch Programming"

Wendy? We would all love to hear how you continue to stand by this guy. We all hope you'll face the facts that you are just another victim... another life taken by a monster.

I've always felt that if a serial killer like Son of Sam, or Dahlmer, or Mengele is not "insane", then what is? I think truely these people or the epitomy of insane. Just because they are cognative, doesn't mean they are totally lost. Insane should equal death. If I ever become insane, I hope I am killed, it's simply humiliating to the poor person who no longer has control to be kept alive as in the wild, they would not survive.

Wendy, why did the defense not call a DNA expert? Because they couldn't! There was no possible way to explain this MONSTERS DNA being on every victim! His fingerprint.... Was all over every crime! These innocent, lovely people spoke from their graves... There were no words yet they were heard loud and clear: MARK GOUDEAU murdered ME! Why did they not call you? They couldn't because you are another casuality! Plus you would have came across as a psycho in denial! Why did the defense talk about all his deeds? They couldn't because every single one was a violent crime, either an assault, a rape, a robbery, a theft, a lie, or a HOMICIDE!Wendy when the best defense is no defense means his team knew he was a murderer and wanted no part in getting him off! Wendy, the only misinformation out there are words either spoken or written by you! Please get help and GOD as my witness I hope u have no children because you are not fit to be a mother! Your denial in my eyes makes you as guilty as he is! It's ashame you can not be convicted for the part you played in his parole! You and he are both guilty of those crimes! I pray you can forgive yourself for your part in their deaths! Personally it's a miscarriage of justice to have you still free in our community! My community! I love this community and those in it and I do not feel safe with such an unbalanced crazy woman who is a partner in such atrocities living here today!

It is sad to see women, or men, so brainwashed who participate WILLINGLY, in getting these psychopaths put back into society. Can the sex or love (lust) be so amazing that it blinds them to the truth! I am truly thinking of lobbying our state to pass a law allowing these kinds of people be charged as a co conspirator or accomplice to the crimes if they had 1 inkling that this person committed or planned to committ such atrocities against the innocent! I truly believe she is criminally liable. At the least she enabled, or turned her head to his deeds! Failure to stop a crime is to me a crime. Enabling him by lying to a parole board to me is criminal. To suspect even the smallest bit he could b guilty n not alert the authorities is criminal to me! I bet alot of others feel the same!

Seriously, you would be serial killers: kill the rich, they probably deserve death.... poor people are just trying to survive.

I know. I always wondered if you are going to be a serial killer why not kill some real assholes. But, they always victimize really innocent, regular people just trying to get by. Hell, why not kill the richest man in town instead of the poorest person you can find???? WTF!

The really sad part is that the victims are such innocents... people like Wendy...
