Is Russell Pearce's Political Career Ovah?

pearceloser.jpg
Arizona's biggest loser. Buh-bye, Russell Pearce.
Soon-to-be-former Arizona Senate President Russell Pearce conceded defeat to his opponent, Jerry Lewis, in yesterday's unprecedented recall election to become the first sitting state Senate president to get booted from office in United States history.

As many of Pearce's supporters -- including Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio -- discussed following his concession speech, Pearce may be down, but he might not be out.

Supporters yakked about Pearce potentially running for the seat from which he was booted next year. They also discussed his potentially running for a higher office.

"Knowing Russell, he's not gonna go away and hide," Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio tells New Times. "He may have other plans. If he does [run for office], no matter what he runs for, I'm gonna support him."

That's Arpaio's opinion, we want yours: is Russell Pearce's political career over?

Yes it's over.  It ended with pushing the infamous bill of his while he should have been working on more pressing issues.  It doesn't matter anyway he was an extremist.

My luck isn't good enough for him to be really gone. Still, I awakened this morning to the news coming from my clock radio. My first groggy thought was that at least my campaign donation hadn't gone to waste.

He may be forced to do jobs that even illegals won't do. Ain't life grand! What goes around comes around....

In a just world he would be done. But maybe not in Arizona. The Arizona political arena is one where turds bob to the top far more often than cream rises.

But Pearce the turd has been flushed. Lets hope he went all the way down the drain.

Ha, did you see Steve Smith and Joe Arpaio standing there by Pearce last night on TV?They both looked stunned.  And worried.  And where or where is our governor Jan thesedays?  Pushing her luck, I'd say.   Get back to Az Jan or give those pay checks back tothe state, you are on our time.  Forget China, the South, New York,CNN, Greta's show and PACs, Jan or resign. Now.

Another interesting question:  are the political advising careers of Constantine Querard and Chuck Coughlin over?  This had to have been the worst run political campaign in recent Arizona history.  Every step the Pearce campaign took they were their own worst enemies.  Either Pearce was getting really bad advice or getting good advice and ignoring it.

The fact that he lost or at best broke even among Republicans in his district sends a strong message that his politics are simply too extreme even for a conservative district such as LD18.

Pearce is too damaged politically from this historic recall to even consider running for the same seat from which he was forcibly removed.

Even if he managed to run for a higher office, the recall and the election results will be used against Pearce and he will not be elected to said higher office.

Or maybe his pal Joe will assign him tsupervise the chain gangs.  Maybe assist with round-ups even.

I'm sure his cockroaches will return him to the bowl for another opportunity to be flushed.

Well said. Yes, I saw who was standing next to him.  They can and should go too.

Chad, I think more than anything the obvious untruthfulness of Mister Pearce is what cost him his senate position. He lied from Day 1 about his involvement in the Fiesta Bowl, and still has not repaid the invoice sent to him.

He lied about being involved personally with JT Ready, even AFTER he sponsored him in your church.

He lied about establishing a black list of those not allowed in the public senate building.

He lied about his involvement with the Olivia Cortes campaign.

He lied about balancing the state budget that wasn't balanced.

He simply makes up numbers and spews them incessantly whenever and wherever he talks and when challenged he bullies his opponent and then ignores the request for validation of his numbers.

He went into hiding when he was recalled, instead of coming out into the open and trying to convince people he was best for the job.

He used sleaze tactics to try to discredit Mr, Lewis.

He attacked Randy Parraz and the recall effort instead of concentrating on why folks should keep him in office.

He tried to set up Arizona as a police state where folks might be stopped by cops and asked for their birth certificate.

He pushed SB-1070 through as a ruse to help MCSO with their illegal sweeps after MCSO lost 287(g) authority for patrol.

He cut funding for education and pushed through a state gun law.

Mister Pearce has clearly been his own worst enemy.

CBA follows closely.

Kudos to you, Randy, and all the volunteers and supporters who worked so hard to get rid of this guy. Jerry Lewis will at least listen to those who don't agree with him. That's a first step toward civility and reasonable representation.

Let's hope so...or at least their tactics change.  The slimey and underhandedness of the campaign was disturbing, and should make every American angry.

Not just his politics.  This election has exposed Pearce as a tool for special interests but even worse as a dirtbag politician who is willing to stoop to new lows just to hang on to his office.

This corruption problem is larger than one individual -- it's like a centipede. LD18 voters cut-off one leg or maybe the head, but there are more legs that still need to be cut!

To slink away and find a dark place to hide is what he should do but he lacks the insight, or sense of remorse to do this.      No doubt he'll be back with his bigot base to run again.

Unfortunately, he's narcissist enough to continue down the destructive path that has failed the state of Arizona and its people.

I dunno, have you seen the kind of people who can get elected governor around here?

Or sheriff.

Tommy,

You forgot one of the most important things -- the mass incarceration of Arizona's people.  The public must attend the State Capitol hearings on CORRECTIONS, to STOP signing of the 5,000 private prison beds contracts. Pearce and his cronies created this profit maker for themselves -- NO accountability there!Ties That Bind: Arizona Politicians and the Private Prison Industry -- In These Times

Thanks, CC. I just typed those examples off the top of my head from distant memory. I rather imagine the documented incidents of his untruthfulness and corruption could go on for a long while.

It was really nice to wake up this morning and know that Mister Pearce is a 'usta was'.
