Maricopa Detectives Describe Corruption in Their Office and Under Leadership of Sheriff Arpaio and Former County Attorney Andrew Thomas -- Watch Now

halverson john hearing 1.JPG
Maricopa County Detective John Halverson is testifying now in the disciplinary hearing of former County Attorney Andrew Thomas about the corruption he witnessed.

If you want to hear Maricopa County Sheriff's Office detectives describe the "blatant" corruption they saw under the leadership of Joe Arpaio, tune in now to the State Bar's disciplinary hearing for former County Attorney Andrew Thomas. (If that direct link doesn't work, click here and then click on the video for the one that's "in progress.")
Detective John Halverson, who worked in the now-disgraced Maricopa Anti-Corruption Enforcement Team, was asked moments ago by one of Thomas' attorneys, John Oberg, whether Arpaio's former chief deputy, Dave Hendershott was "competent" to conduct investigations.

Halverson seemed stunned, and paused for a moment before saying as an answer that Hendershott choose "to ignore certain facts that were presented to him."

Despite being on the force for only a year in a half in 2007, he became so critical of what he was asked by his superiors to do, he went to internal affairs to try to stop it.

His request was ignored, he testified.

Detective Brandon Luth is scheduled to testify after Halverson -- and his testimony should be even better.

ScaryZona's Hiearchy of Criminality... The Kissing Cousins of Corruption, when one has shit on his/her lips... they all have shit on their lips.  All of the verbal turds spat by these "cousins" are made of the same corrupt elements.  So when they dissect these turds the corrupt elements of the other cousins are bound to surface...  Call it what you want "Whack-a-mole, Whack-an-asshole .... it's really entertaining to watch thanks to the skillful handling of the "mallet" I saw displayed in the "interrogation" of Hendershott.  I was also impressed by the frequent chastising of Hender[shouldbe]shott by Judge O'Neill (sp?).

READERS and FBI Agents:Today's testimony included some information from a former MACE detective that "identities" were set up for the detectives, complete with new social security numbers and drivers licenses.  I understand the need for a PO box during criminal investigations, but fake SS cards and driver's licenses to go after the Board of Supervisors?

Here's my thought.....Did DAVID HENDERSHOTT Sr., or his son David Jr. or even his other son who was just arrested twice for drug related accidents obtain these fake social security cards and drivers licenses?

If Hendershott was able to, nobody could convince me he did not.  He was driving a red corvette to the hearing, he owned (or owns) a yellow Hummer, and the kid who was arrested was driving a 2011 Taurus.  What better way to get more credit or to screw more creditors than to use a social security number that isn't yours?

This needs to be looked into ASAP by the feds.  What happens to those fake id's after the investigation is over?  Who is using them?  Something tells me Davey Hendershott got a fresh start with one of those cards.

Arpaio has spent months talking ad nauseum about ID theft and people using other people's identities.  Wouldn't it be AWESOME if we find out that Hendershott and the family are involved?  I don't doubt it one little bit.

i am in wonder about D.H. Jr , getting info the way stated in today's hearings, , i was thinking he was an I.T. person ( i think that from the county computer server issue ) , am i wrong ?? but why would Jr. be in the issue at all ?? other than Daddy ??

The testimony of some of the folks from the MCAO and MCSO is showing some positive light on a very dark agency. It's refreshing to see and hear testimony from folks who are honest and ethical and chose not to play the game, knowing a transfer or termination of employment was likely.

Kudos to those folks and the many fine professional employees having to work under the negative tutelage of the MCSO command staff and others like Andy Thomas. Has Andy Thomas yet attended any of the disbarment proceedings? Maybe it's just not that important to him, or he is studying to pass the bar in another state before he is disbarred in Arizona. Hmmmm????

Do you get the feeling that the Joel Fox IA thing is stalled intentionally.  Some of this testimony today and yesterday points some pretty non-flaccid fingers at the flaccid fool.  While the Babeu report did not focus on the old man because of scope, it is virtually certain that he got some bad press in that investigation.

What is the status of Joel Fox's case?

I'm not at all surprised that the detectives feel this way. At least some of them agree with the people that the Senile Spinmaster and Co. is as corrupt as the day is long.

Detective Luth's testimony does promise to be good.

I hear Henderblimp blamed the Old Fool for the arrests of Don Stapley. I hope the FBI heard that...

how can he still be in office?

the sad thing is that his supports will simply chalk this up as  a  "liberal media smear".

it's unreal the level of corruption that the local GOP base simply ignores.

Very damming testimony by the detectives.Neatly ties all those corrupt criminals together. Most telling is the part where the detective says that Hendershit Jr. had already received the change to the search warrant before the detective had sent it. All these criminals should be locked up.Kudos to the detectives for standing up & telling the truth about these criminals.--- Thanks for the link Ray !

lol WOW, pretty damaging stuff if you ask me.  "they didnt listen to any of us, just Aubchon". "when I sent the info they wanted to Dave Hendershott Jr, he told me that his dad had already given it to him". corruption at its finest!!

FormerRepublican
FormerRepublican

According to one older newspaper article, Hendershott stated that his kid was a computer "genius" who put "bad guys away".  In other words, he worked for Daddy and his skills couldn't get him hired anywhere else.  He had no business working outside the scope of a search warrant.  As I know it, he is NOT a sworn LE officer, and has no formal LE training.  But he did have Daddy flexing the muscle around there, and that gave the kid the advantage - along with the overtime.  Remember the article about how much overtime David Jr. earned in one "investigative" period?  I believe it added up to nearly 40,000 one year alone.

Gerry_C

That was a bit strange and perplexing.  I can see many way that could happen, none of which should be comforting to those also involved.

Again we have found something to agree upon. What's more interesting is the weight Your posts carry. Even Coz reluctantly said something positive after your intelligent, objective post. You have the ability to sway public opinion. There is something to be said about that. You obviously don't need reminded that with such great influence there comes great responsibility. What these hearings will continue to bear out is there is a large contingent of honest, hard working individuals who have been overshadowed and trampled upon by a selfish, self serving group who had power and authority to exercise over the "moral" majority. I agree with Eleanor and others who posted similar statements regarding the roy from the top down. Hendershott created the model for leadership and advancement within MCSOs ranks. It will take decades for attrition to weed out that influence.

YPS, you may want to read my post. I said something good about folks from MCSO.

Yeah, what Dave Hendershott considered mutiny was in fact, ethics.

Integrity is critical in criminal justice / law enforcement organizations.  When an officer or deputy DA goes rogue, it is easy to spot from the inside and above.  Generally the failures don't creep too high provided you have integrity at the top.  Somebody will eventually nip it.  When the top ranks have integrity failures, it flows down and can pollute everybody in the organization, except for those that decide honor is better than dishonor.

Last I heard, Fox was still on administrative leave, appealing his termination orders. All the while billing taxpayers something to the tune of $103,000, or something like that.

He stays in office because, like most other Az CON politicians, he panders to the fear of his base. They can remain safely hidden under their beds while Yosemite Joe protects them from those scarey aliens and gays(OOPS kinda fucked up on that one. NO WAIT..I've got it, he gave them jobs with his command staff SO HE COULD KEEP AN EYE ON THEM) And they just gotta re-elect him next year because, now that the Scientologists are making a presence here, there will be a whole new group of "Aliens" they'll need protection from

G.O.P.., is this Arizona Senate President, "Latter Day Saint", Fiesta Bowl Bribe taking, False Financial Statement, Tax Evading, Election Tampering, and Rigging Russell Pearce,, head of the T.A.S. Integrity Commission, the former Arpaio Deputy that Hates all things illegal?  (Except for he and his old Boss/Life Partner.)

Arizona's G.O.P. is so Amazing.

Dark Man

That's precisely what I'm wondering too. As a matter of fact, I'm wondering if the DOJ's and the Federal Government(FBI) are still active in their investigation into arpaio's administration. I know the DOJ is a separate matter regarding "racial profiling". But everyone's now wondering what the status is on the FBI's investigation into arpaio's leadership. There's got to be a vital sign that the FBI is still active and alive in this matter. This is some serious shit.

Does this mean Segal spat the pink sword, and surfaced from beneath Arpaio's desk?

Interesting all involved that this is much the same way our legislature [and adminstration] is working at the state level.    Look at the soon to be recalled Senate President and the culture of corruption he has been patriarch to.  The term patriarch is relevant because many family members were included in his circle, same as Hendershott's and Arpiao's culture.   Step back and look, you will see how they intermingle and feed off from each others corruption and the link is greed for power and wealth.    They are and will step on ANYBODY threatening  either while lying to cover the others trail.  That is why it was such "delicious irony" that Brewer was FORCED to set a recall election date for Pearce, her comrade in corruption.  And as far as what you gentlemen have posted, you are both/all exactly right.  I liked the fact that Yourpro... pointed out the fact that the corruption doesn't permeate as deeply as the leadership counted on.  There are people, with morales, whose loyalty can't be bought.  This holds true on the state level as well, I know people from alot of the state agencies who are good people, capable of doing good things.    This, and I know this is going to sound sick, is a very "joyous" time in my life.  By that I mean, watching with intent daily, I am seeing the intitutions of corruption starting to crumble.  I see this around the world and coming to the United States in a big media enhanced tsunami, OWS.  The more the "establishment" pushes against the movement the bigger it becomes.  The phenomenon is manifesting differently in different cultures, some violent and some starting peacefully.  How much potential for a "Storm the Bastile" mob attitude is there?  My guess, with the current mood of the country.. a slight breeze or a limp wristed push from the wrong direction.

Tommy Collins

YPS, I'm glad to be able to say that we agree on something. I know I've made many posts that have pissed you off, and probably a number of other good MCSO employees, as well. The beauty of that is simple, even though you were mad at my thoughts as presented, you at least evaluated some of what I had written and processed it as being 'maybe possible or credible'. Over time you may even begin to agree with more of what I write. Heaven forbid, eh?

I have literally posted probably twenty or more times over the past couple years that MCSO employees are not ALL bad, in fact I would guess most of them are good people who hate the type of work they are having to do under the guise of 'law enforcement', when in fact much of it is nothing more than garnering votes for the shurf. I have even posted that I felt enormous empathy for those professional employees working at MCSO. I know a few folks who have worked at MCSO, a few who still work there, and a few posse members there and gone, and a fair share of municipal police officers of all ranks from around the Phoenix area. I get to chat with them and listen to their ideas and opinions of things.

I have spent time talking with Mike Stauffer and I think he might be the kind of person you will want to take over MCSO. There won't be any positive changes at MCSO until the likes of arpaio have been removed, from the top down.

["What's more interesting is the weight Your posts carry. Even Coz reluctantly said something positive after your intelligent, objective post. You have the ability to sway public opinion. There is something to be said about that."]

Thank you. You need to understand that not all readers are as emotionally vested in the MCSO piece as you are. I honestly feel badly for the MCSO employees who bust their butts, follow law, apply law with reason and integrity, and then have to hear news reports about how the agency, as a whole, is considered corrupt and criminal. You can be instrumental in changing that, but you will have to want to.

Although I am old, and decrepit, I am not dead yet.

Astonishingly, if I were in law enforcement today you and I would probably enjoy working together. As you know, having thin skin and being a cop is not a formula for success.

I will always have your back, amigo. Even when we have to agree to disagree.

Tommy:  what are your thoughts about the possibility that the "undercover" social security cards and drivers licenses made their way to Hendershott's greedy paws?  And...if they were used during the BOS investigation, how many times has Hendershott ordered new social security cards for "investigative" purposes?  How hard would it have been for Hendershott to give himself a new social security number to defraud creditors?  He certainly had no problem acting illegally as the number 2 guy....and this seems very suspicious.

I've been saying this for years.  Destroying the foundation from the top down.

It was good to see these detectives step up and do what they did.  Say the truth, no matter who doesn't want to hear it.

I agree with Tommy, kudos to them and thanks to them to for doing so.

I think the MCSO shurf is doing it intentionally.

He knows Fox will be shitcanned regardless, because it makes the Old Fool look good politically.

However, Fox would be in a good position to talk to the FBI and the U.S. Attorney about a deal in exchange for all info Fox has on SCA and all the inner workings of MCSO if it means getting rid of the senile old fool. The same can and should be said of the Henderblimp and Black.

But you are right. This is a drain on county resources.

I appreciate the comment Tommy.

It is sweeter knowing that even though MCSO does not view New Times as a credible journalistic source, they actually do monitor it quite closely as many have testified in the Babeu report and the Thomas, et. al. hearings.

Couple what with the speed of "communication" at which a LE organization's rumor mill runs and the Rump Ranger comments likely have given many of the good people there something to smile about.
