Joe Arpaio: Military Vets Will Get Preferential Treatment For MCSO Jobs

• Seeing the name Arpaio and the term "preferential treatment" in the same paragraph makes me cringe.

• You wanted to.  He dismissed you like yesterday's trash.  You got upset, made threats to kill him on a police radio band and you spiraled into a coked out frenzy of nothingness.  Went to jail, cheated on your wife, shot at your business partner.  Things have gone well for you since you were rebuffed by sheriff joe.

• Or recall what it means

• Bozo Joe has no clue about facts vs. fiction. His whole life is nothing but fiction....a real legend in his own sick twisted distorted mind.

• They may not be 'accepting' applications if they have active applicants in the testing process. This doesn't mean the jobs have been filled... and we shouldn't assume that just because the shurf says something that it's factual...

• If you have a certain JP in your pocket you don't need PC for an arrest or search warrant, as I think you have experienced.... PC is NOT a part of his vocabulary.... I doubt he can even spell it...

• Well, for a while it should at least be a way of eliminating gay applicants. But what about state law?  Deputy sheriffs have to take a written examination.  So are they ranked by points?  The law says, A. A veteran of the armed forces of the United States who is separated from the armed forces under honorable conditions following more than six months of active duty and who takes an examination for employment by the state or any political subdivision under a merit system of employment as provided by section 38-491 shall, in the determination of the veteran's final rating on such examination, be given a preference of five points over persons other than veterans. The preference shall be added to the grade earned by such veteran, but only if such veteran earns a passing grade without preference. What's interesting is that there is no exam for detention officers.  After filling out an online application, they attend orientation "by invitation only."  So who decides who gets invited?

• What and where are the 175 jobs? From mcso.org: "NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR DEPUTY." "NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW APPLICATIONS FOR DETENTION OFFICER."

• "This isn't a one-time thing," Arpaio continues. "This is a new policy. From now on, military personnel will get the first shot at jobs that come available." I have to ask - what took him so long?  Is Arpaio's brain so decrepit that it takes him more than a decade to remember that hiring ex-military as cops is a good idea?  What's next, is he going to "order" the police to have probable cause before making an arrest? That they should turn on their police lights to get someone to pull over? Come to think of it - it would be nice if Joe could even remember what PC is, given his recent testimony.

• There are many, many vets who have PTSD.  It isn't a joking matter and I wish it would be taken more seriously by our government.  They create it they should help deal with it instead of allowing our veterans to suffer silently until they kill themselves or somebody else. 

• Vets get preference anyway. He's just barking to see who will listen.

• Physical and psychological fitness huh? You mean physically fit like Hendy and Rpiehole? You mean psychologically fit like Rpiehole and all of his "Command" staff? In all reality, Joe will give preference to those who are up there on the PTSD scale. (probably the only applicants he'll get)

• Simply another spin job to try to take some media attention away from the testimony at the disbarment proceeding. Almost every government employer allows military vets to use veterans points, if they choose, in the hiring process. This old asshole didn't invent it.

• " military applicants will be subjected to a "tough regime" of physical and psychological fitness, and pass a background check" Too bad we can't make arpaio take these same test to prove he his sane and capable.  Him and a few others in LE.

• Is this a new policy or is Joe just using a policy that every other law enforcement agency in the country uses to get attention?

• That's because they are very wise.

• Over the years, I've heard stories of qualified law enforcement personnel who refuse to work for Shurf Joe. They take other emmployment instead.

• Im not against this, but shouldnt the more qualified people be at the front of the line?
