Jahessye Shockley's Mother: "I Want to Talk to Jan Brewer." Continues to Bash Glendale P.D., CPS

Jerice Hunter, the mother of missing 5-year-old Jahessye Shockley, went to the State Capitol today to criticize the Glendale Police Department.
The Glendale Police Department tells New Times its investigation into the disappearance of 5-year-old Jahessye Shockley is its "number one priority." But that's not enough for the girl's mother, Jerice Hunter, who continues to publicly bash the police, claiming they're not doing enough to find her daughter.

Hunter and other members of Shockley's family held missing person signs at the State Capitol this afternoon, and criticized police and Child Protective Services for treating Hunter like a suspect.

"I want to talk to Jan Brewer," Hunter, at one point, yelled at the building behind her.

Hunter tells New Times that what she considers to be an unsatisfactory investigation by the Glendale P.D. isn't about race -- which is contrary to what the girl's grandmother said last week -- but then says police would pay more attention if the girl was white because "if you're white you're right."

"It aint about color but what's real is real," she continues. "We in the state of Arizona. This is the last state that fought tooth and nail to make Martin Luther King's birthday a holiday...ya'll can't keep doing us like this. You done locked my other kids away like primates in a laboratory and you do not care."

When asked what she thinks authorities should be doing to find her missing daughter, Hunter -- who's served prison time for child abuse, is currently pregnant, and recently had her other three children taken into CPS custody -- says they need to start by not treating her like a suspect.

"I really think they should take the focus off of me and quit asking people -- wasting time -- if I did something to my daughter," Hunter says. "They should quit holding my babies hostage and trying to get them to say something [about what happened to Jahessye]. [Authorities are] telling me 'your kids aren't saying anything.' It's been 13 days. What do they expect my babies to say that they haven't already said? [CPS] don't wanna hear 'we love our mama, we wanna go home we want our mommy' -- they don't wanna hear that. They won't let me see them because they don't want them running into my arms. They don't wanna hear them scream 'mommy.'

"If I was so disconnected from my children why does CPS call me to ask me how to get my baby to eat?"

It should be noted that over the course of our interview, Hunter seemed more concerned with getting back her children who are now in CPS custody than she is with finding Jahessye, who's been missing for nearly two weeks.

Josie Hunter, Shockley's aunt, says she gives the Glendale P.D. no credit for getting the media to pay attention to the case.

"It's because of the family and the community that [the case] got out to the national news. It's not because of the Glendale officials, police, or government officials," she tells New Times. "[Glendale police] should be using those billboards [on highways] to put up the missing photo of Jahessye and so many other missing children."

Last week, Shockley's grandmother, Shirley Johnson, told reporters the media and police aren't doing all they could to find her missing granddaughter because of her race.

"It is because she is a little black kid," Johnson told reporters. "Arizona is known for this."

Glendale Sergeant Brent Coombs says the family's allegations against the police are without merit.

"Although we realize that emotions are running high in the family, nothing could be further from the truth," Coombs tells New Times. "The Glendale Police Department's commitment to this case has been unwavering since the first day we responded.  This is our department's number one priority. This is about finding a beautiful little 5-year-old girl, who seems to have fallen off the face of the earth. It is our mission to find Jahessye and bring the person or persons to justice who are responsible for her disappearance."

In addition to Jerice Hunter's child abuse conviction, Arizona Republic columnist Laurie Roberts recently spoke to a relative of Hunter's who says she's called CPS several times to report her for abusing her children.

From the Republic:

A relative who helped raise a missing 5-year-old Glendale girl says she called Child Protective Services several times to report her suspicions that the girl and her older sister were being abused.

Mahogany Hightower, one of four cousins who took care of Jahessye Shockley for the first four years of her life, told me she last saw the little girl in April, at a family barbecue.

"She cried really bad, telling us she wanted us to take her home," Hightower said. "She wanted to go home now. We told her you can't come home with us now but you will later. She goes, "I can't go later. I've got to go now.'"

Shockley, police say, wandered away from siblings -- who were caring for her at her family's apartment at the time -- a little before 5 p.m. on October 11, and hasn't been seen since.described as a black female, approximately 3-foot-5, 55 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. She has long hair that was in a ponytail at the time of her disappearance.

She was last seen wearing a solid white T-shirt, blue jean shorts, and pink flip flops.

Anyone with information about Shockley's disappearance should call the Glendale Police Department at 623-930-3000.

It only makes one appear more suspicious spending more time crying foul over racism instead of discussing the missing child. CPS wouldn't have taken the other children without a good reason. CPS has such a heavy caseload that to really step in and remove children from a home could only be for a good, investigated reason. I hope she is found, or if she has been taken, it is hopefully by someone who will treat her better than  it appears her own parents did. Not that I would condone that, but it is the lesser of two evils.

If my child were missing, best believe I wouldn't be sitting down in a chair at the Capitol holding a sign and asking for the governor. I'd be out walking the streets, passing out pictures and asking any and everyone if they'd seen my baby. I wouldn't be able to eat, sleep or function. My daughter is an adult now and I still can't relax until I know she's home safe.

Matrix abduction.  Quatuor Coronati/UK and Atramental Lodge 23/US.  1984 (13) miles dead center DC to abduction site.  Cartographic signature is 33/33/666.  Embedded Marvin Gaye.  CPS/local policing agency facilitated.  Cell phone stalking w/o mother's knowledge.  PATRIOT Act beta test the purpose of which is resourcing ritual sacrifice with products from the US.  It's completely legal under the PATRIOT Act.  Linked to Lisa Irwin and BDSM abductions of Holly Bobo, Brittanee Drexel, Lauren Spierer and Megan Maxwell.  OWS is cover for April 22 disclosure to TBI alleging involvement from Obama, Schwarzenegger and Soros.  UK reaction was Murdoch, Oslo/Utoya and the London Riots.  Again, the PATRIOT Act is being beta tested in the US to set a legal precedence for kidnapping for torture to resource ritual sacrifice iun the UK and Rome with living US "products".  Jahessye Shockley, Lisa Irwin, BDSM, all products under this horrific legislation.

Right place the race card.  Thats going to help.  Why not worry about playing the race card later, and be 100% honest with the police, cause we all know there is more to this story then they are telling.

Ok.....this mother is upset that someone may have taken her child and possibly hurt her child, but it does not upset her that she hurts her own children? What a hypocrite....I don't understand the insanity of parents out there. She is a piece of trash...I don't care what color she is. She whipped her children with electrical cords repeatedly.....it is possible this girl RAN away on her own or fell into the hands of someone more humaneThan her own biological parents. This mom wants to blame everyone else, but fails to take personal responsibility for her contributing to the abduction by not properly supervising her own children. People get sick of parents not taking RESPONSIBILITY for their actions and how it affects their children white, black, brown or pink....I don't care what color they are! Deborah Bradley is white and she too is not taking responsibility for her actions and everyone can see it. So stop playing the brace card and on up to the actions taken that cause people to feel no sympathy towards you asa parent. Those children should have NEVER been given back to that mother in the first place.....how much abuse is enough for those children to endure? And now this mother is pregnant again.....the cycle continues! Trust me....you don't get sent to prison for 8 years unless the child abuse is severe. I pray that this child was taken by someone who wanted to rescue her from a life of abuse and neglect and love and protect her.

The way to get your child on National news is to get the family and friends out there appealing for it. Not sitting back and hoping that the police will contact the media for you. They apparently know this since a family member said "It's because of the family and the community that [the case] got out to the national news. It's not because of the Glendale officials, police, or government officials."  Right! That's how little white kids get national attention too. The family and friends get out there and pound the pavement. In this day and age, no one is going to deliberately ignore an endangered child, no matter what race or gender they are, or how bad the family situation is. But the family does have to make the effort.

If you feel the need to address the media. First of all Reesy, you need to act like a lady. I understand your very upset about Jhessye, but stop blaming everybody else. You need to 1st blame yourself for leaving Jhessye unattended knowing the other kids would not or was not watching her.  And why don't the other kids tell you why they just let her walk out & not stop her and not know which way she walked.  Stop playing the victim and the race issue.  I agree they should have put Jhessye's story nationwide after the 3rd day.  But remember we cannot judge other states laws in the similar case like here in Arizona.  I will admit, AZ is more of a don't give a damn about other's if you are not white or almost look white.

I have never lost a child (father of 5) so it is hard for me to get a handle on this situation. I never lost a child because adult supervision was a priority, responsible adult supervision. The Mom was lashing out at the media because they had the audacity to ask about her past as it relates to her treatment of her children. The media would be not doing their jobs if they didn't, and so would the authorities. Too many children end up dead, caused by the parents, either in a fit of rage or by negligence. Considering the mother's past actions towards her children, the police need to quit pussyfooting around and turn up the heat. A lot of manpower and expense is going into this search and the mother needs to come forward and clear herself, starting with a polygraph and a full explanation as to why this child did not have responsible adult supervision during the mother's absence. As long as the mother maintains this defensive approach the more suspicious the community becomes and too much energy will be expended on that instead of finding the child. I assume there are members of the community that think the mother has paid her debt to society and all should be forgiven. Quite frankly, I don't see any difference in a child molester and a child abuser, the child will end up with a broken mental state either way. One last question, how in the hell did the mother (using the term out of context) get the children back after she was paroled? Someone screwed the pooch and the kid has to take the consequences. Our prayers are with you Jahessye.

What I think is weird is that why will she be sitting there with signs with all that people. . And pointing fingers. Come on she should check her self first Is she really doing enough to find her baby ? ? I dont think so it doesnt seem like it plus that baby is either dead or some one has it because here in this country no one gets lost unles they are sick but only for a little while but babys come on somebody would of call the police just hrs after she was missing. . I hope not but this could be a trick

It is pretty obvious that this "mother" is attempting to run some sort of scam by capitalizing on her missing child.  I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised to learn that they faked the whole thing to collect donations from the general public.  These people are trash in ever sense of the word, and not be trusted in the slightest.

With the mass media attention currently being given to missing 11 month old Lisa Irwin, and hardly a mention about Jhessye, you can't blame them for bringing up race. I'm sure it hurts. But don't bash the police, that's just dumb.

There is a big difference.  Shockley's mother is a known child-abuser and ex-convict who left her daughter alone for hours with no supervision.  Obviously something is very wrong in this story.  Why should the media pay attention to it?  It is only going to make black people look bad.

The whole thing is a scam being run by these criminals to try and collect donations from an unsuspecting populace.  Since it isn't working the next step is to try and sue the state.

I think that it has become more about mom and grandma that about the missing child. A shame. I am tired of hearing all of the outlandish crap coming out of their mouths. Enough already! Shut up and let the cops do their jobs. You can't demand air time and then turn around and complain about the media exposing you. Think about what you are doing. Or am I giving you too much credit?

Their has to be more to  this story than what is being  told..  ... I wonder if the Grandma needs to take a look in her own backyardThe police and everyone else that has been involved.  Is doing a great job.. to try to find this child...I commend you all highly.. There was no time wasted the search started right away... I don't know why the Grandma would say racial slanders ...It is not that way... Hopefully they will find this little angel Mom should of never left the kids in charge...I pray that little baby girl Jahessey  returns...

This is a nasty spider web that was spun by poor agency practices (CPS already a matter of record); the mother, (a person with an abusive background does not add any credibility to her words, her actions or her memory);  and a child that is missing. The community has gone above and beyond in getting the information out there and something is amiss. Let's not muddy the water with anything that distracts the objective: finding the girl.

Polygraph the mother and other suspects and don't get sidetracked on the speculation of anything else but a missing child. Avoid distractions and focus on facts. Whenever there is a young child missing or disappearance, everybody is a suspect.....

Focus on finding the child, have DPS and not Glendale or CPS do the investigation and deal with the findings.. use all resources available and do it thoroughly, time is not on the little girl's favor.

Sad that the grandmother has put down the helping hands like media and police. No matter what you do doesn't seem be good enough? Come on, every media outlet has broke their back, as well as the authorities have. Our organization helped in sending out over three thousand emails in the first 24 hours of Jahesseye missing. Presently, Jahesseye's information went national on the net in over a 24 to 36 hrs. That is not including what other authorites and various media did, as well. In conversations, we know that Nancy Grace and other parties are following this. They feel, as I do the local has done a lot!!

If she has an audience with Mrs. Brewer she may have to 'dumb down' her vocabulary. She seems a notch or two above our esteemed, "has did", governor.
