Congresswoman Gabby Giffords' husband says Giffords is pulling for Greg Stanton in Phoenix mayor's race.
Mark Kelly, husband of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, spoke during an Arizona Democratic Party fundraiser at the Arizona Science Center in downtown Phoenix to salute the party's grassroots volunteers.

During his speech, the retired NASA astronaut, told the crowd that Giffords was excited for Greg Stanton to be Phoenix's next mayor and that she encouraged her Phoenix friends to vote for him.

That's according to tweets from the Arizona Democratic Party.

Kelly also mentioned that Giffords worked with Stanton on border security issues while he was working the in the Attorney General's office.

Giffords, D-Ariz., who was shot in the head on Jan. 8 while meeting with constituents, was not at the event. Jared Loughner is the man accused of killing six people and wounding 13 others, including Giffords, during a shooting rampage in Tucson.

Even an indirect endorsement from Rep. Giffords carries much more weight and value than a purchased endorsement from some county sheriff in a southwest state.
