Fagala-Phobic Congressman Trent Franks: Gay Marriage "Literally is a Threat to the Nation's Survival"

trentfranks.jpg
Trent Franks thinks letting gay people get married will lead to the end of America.
Forget China, the national debt, the failing economy, terrorism, and various other legitimate threats to the survival of the United States, according to fagala-phobic Congressman Trent Franks, letting gay people tie the knot is the real danger.

Franks recently appeared on the Washington Watch Weekly radio show to talk about his doom and gloom prophecy of gay marriage destroying the country. During his appearance, he said "[gay marriage] literally is a threat to the nation's survival."

He then rambled on about how marriage should only be between a man and a woman because "that is the launching pad of the next generation" -- as if letting gay people get married will somehow prevent straight couples from procreating.

Per usual, Franks' office ignored our request for an explanation.

Listen to audio of Franks' appearance on Washington Watch Weekly below.

Franks' fear of homosexuals has been well-documented by New Times. Click here and here for further reading.

Yeah? I wonder if he could detail exactly what will happen if gay marriage becomes legal? Will there be rioting and death in the streets? I've never heard an adequate explanation of how gay marriage will ruin the country. I've never even heard a proper argument for how it will ruin marriage. I'm a straight guy in favor of gay marriage and I'm damn proud of it. People should complain about things that are REALLY wrong with this country like bigotry and greed.

There are rumors about Franks trying to cover up his own sexual preferences by being outspoken.

Ted Arthur Haggard (born June 27, 1956) is an American evangelical pastor. Known as Pastor Ted to the congregation he served, he was the founder and former pastor of the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado; a founder of the Association of Life-Giving Churches; and was leader of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) from 2003 until November 2006.

In November 2006, escort and masseur Mike Jones alleged that Haggard had paid him to engage in sex with him for three years and had also purchased and used crystal methamphetamine.[1] A few days later Haggard resigned from all of his leadership positions.

After the scandal was publicized, Haggard entered three weeks of intensive counseling, overseen by four ministers. In February 2007, one of those ministers, Tim Ralph, said that Haggard "is completely heterosexual."[2] Ralph later said he meant that therapy "gave Ted the tools to help to embrace his heterosexual side." On June 1, 2010 Haggard announced that he intended to start a new church in Colorado Springs.[3] In February 2011, Haggard came out as bisexual.[4]

There may be a parallel to be drawn here.

Maybe Mr. Franks needs to  evaluate his inner soul and quit trying to overcome his outward appearances.

No, I am not buying it.  There have always been gay people.  Even in the Bible.  And they were not always cursed either.  To me, the logic of accepting gay marriage seems inescapable and your presented health concerns argument do not seem to have anything to do with lesbian lifestyle.  Matter of fact, I have heard that lesbians are the least likely of any group, to contract a sexually transmitted disease.

Gays in the Bible:  http://www.gaychristian101.com...

There are plenty of studies going both ways;

http://www.viewzone.com/finger...

My heterosexual marriage is quite secure and unthreatened by gay marriage.  However we do not agree with the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."  We find there is no generation gap between our older selves and intelligent, thoughtful youth who wish that "Don't Ask Don't Tell" were expanded to include heterosexuals in the military and other aspects of our lives too.  Some of us really do not want to know, we do not want to share, we do not want to speculate and we just don't want it in our face regardless of it's orientation.  It's private and that is the way it should stay.

Furthermore I propose that "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" be expanded to cover your religious beliefs.  Presidential candidates qualifying themselves for office based on their religious affiliation and history is quite frightening to most rational people and offensive as well.  Now if I go about emulating one of our current crop of candidates and telling people that God speaks to me and tells me what to do - nobody is going to give me kudos, no, if I do that I could well get locked up in the loony bin and forced onto psychotropic meds.  Why is it OK for a candidate for President to speak that way?

Satan speaks to people too and imitates an "Angel of light."  This particular candidate has given no indication that she has the discernment to tell the difference.

Let gays marry.  For those who have been committed for decades this is only just.   For those who can't maintain a commitment, perhaps this will be incentive.  Otherwise some hungry lawyers will have good income.

Classifying homosexuality as a "behavior" can backfire just like Citizens United.  Heterosexuality can also therefore be defined as a "behavior" and in an alternate utopia perhaps your heterosexuality and your religious beliefs would be illegal "choices."

It is not your business.  Leave them alone.

Hate is a drug, just like meth and heroin.  JUST SAY NO TO HATE!

The fact is that same-sex marriage is neither beneficial to the individuals who engage in it nor to the society that permits it. The reasons have to do with health and the origins of homosexuality. Concerning health, same-sex behavior involves human physiology that's not designed for same-sex interaction. Consequently, they're prone to bodily damage, which, in turn, is the most efficient means by which serious diseases, such as hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, STDS, microbes from the intestinal tract, are transmitted. Concerning origins, homosexuality (the urge for the behavior) results from a mix of genetic, biologic, and social/peer-related factors, each of which varies in significance among individuals but none of which (in and of themselves) guarantee same-sex attraction. Rather, they impart a greater tendency or predisposition towards developing the urge.  Hence, a society that in any way encourages homosexuality through marriage, teaching, or other means, makes it more likely that people with this predisposition will develop same-sex attraction and engage in the behavior. It's no different than taking someone with a familial history of alcoholism, who's never had alcohol or been in a bar, and encouraging them to drink. The urge which had heretofore been dormant now becomes active.  Hence, the government should not recognize same-sex marriage and encourage it with legal and financial incentives, like it does for real marriage – that between one man and one woman. Besides this post, other reasons for opposing same-sex marriage is in the essay athttp://marriage-onemanandonewo...

Here, in addition to a more detailed discussion concerning the risks and origins of same-sex behavior, you'll find references from respected, mainstream, and objective sources (such as UCLA, USC, the University of London, the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association and none from anti-gay marriage groups), upon which this post and essay are based.I realize that proponents of same-sex marriage will probably disagree. However, if they do, then it's their responsibility to provide a fact-based rebuttal (that includes all the facts – not just those supporting their view), using reputable, objective, and apolitical sources, as this essay does, proving what’s written here to be wrong. If they can't or refuse to do so and offer an implausible excuse for their refusal, then it will prove that proponents of same-sex marriage have no logical or objective reasons (the only reasons for passing a law) for their cause, except a selfish desire that's devoid of any care about the damage that would result. For those, who agree with what's written herein, please help in sending this post and the essay link (in whatever form you like or rewrite it to your satisfaction) to as many as you know and ask that they do the same. Additionally, email it to your legislators and demand that they vote against any law permitting government recognition of same-sex marriage or put forth bills overturning it, if gay marriage exists in your state. In this way, we can bypass a very biased and dishonest media that's only interested in broadcasting the propaganda generated by proponents of same-sex marriage and reach the public with the facts showing why same-sex behavior, whether it's in a committed relationship or not, is an unhealthy behavior that shouldn't be encouraged by the government through marriage.

Let's see, according to what I've read, only 35% of the U.S.  population gets married and 50% of those marriages end up in divorce. Thene there are the statistics that show a worlwide decrease in the birthrate amongst white females to below 2 (2 being replacement). Does Franks attribute all of this to a few gay marriages? How strange. The numbers I've seen show the U.S. gay population to be around 2-3% of the total. Does Franks believe that if 1/2 want to marry, it will cause the fall of the U.S.? Sounds like a Bible-banging nut job to me.

There are a lot of people that if they would just embrace their sexuality they would be happier and better for it.  Not everybody is ready and willing to do that.  Especially if they are constantly scrutinized and ridiculed for their choices.

I think there are some times when people do make a choice about being gay.  i have met a lot of people who say they are that way because of the sexual abuse they endured when they were younger.

How about encouraging healthy monogamous relationships for homosexual and heterosexual couples which includes a comprehensive sex education that teaches people how to say no if they do not want to have sex but feel pressured to and teaching people how to use protection....oh wait, that requires dealing with reality and accepting that others live a different lifestyle without vilifying them....I apologize

What do you say now, JjM?  You seem to be uniformly regarded as WRONG among the readers of this blog.  Moreover, Shadow_Man has done an excellent job of responding to your invitation to provide scientific evidence that your beliefs are just plain false.  He/she has demonstrated that: (1) homosexuality is not a choice or "lifestyle," but rather biological in nature; (2) it is impossible to change one's sexual orientation through therapy, counseling, psychology, etc.; (3) from a psychology and mental health perspective, there is no evidence that gays and lesbians are less likely to lead normal, happy, and productive lives; and (4) heterosexuals, not homosexuals, cause most of the disease (including sexually transmitted disease) throughout the world.  Good luck with that, JjM....that's all I can say.

JJ wrote: “diminishes to zero the potential for STDs”

LOL did you seriously just say that? Heterosexuals have zero the potential for STDs? Last i checked, STDs like chlamydia, herpes, and gonnorhea are rampant among the straight community. Worldwide, AIDS is most common among African heterosexuals.

Around 2 million children in sub-Saharan Africa were living with HIV at the end of 2007. They represent more than 85% of all children living with HIW worldwide. AIDS among children is transferred by mothers.

Helping women and girls in many parts of Africa, as elsewhere in the world, the AIDS epidemic is aggravated by social and economic inequalitities between men and women.

As for psychology, let’s see what the most reputable psychological organizations have to say about homosexuality and same-sex marriage:The American Psychological Association, the American Psychiatric Association, and the National Association of Social Workers state:

“There is no scientific basis for distinguishing between same-sex couples and heterosexual couples with respect to the legal rights, obligations, benefits, and burdens conferred by civil marriage.”

http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/co...

Thus, mental health professionals and researchers have long recognized that being homosexual poses no inherent obstacle to leading a happy, healthy, and productive life, and that the vast majority of gay and lesbian people function well in the full array of social institutions and interpersonal relationships.

http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/co...

The research and clinical literature demonstrate that same-sex sexual and romantic attractions, feelings, and behaviors are normal and positive variations of human sexuality.

http://www.apa.org/pi/lgbt/res...

The longstanding consensus of the behavioral and social sciences and the health and mental health professions is that homosexuality per se is a normal and positive variation of human sexual orientation.

JJ: Let me clearly prove your claims wrong with actual scientific sites :)For those of you claiming homosexuality is a “lifestyle”, that is a false and ignorant statement. Homosexuality is not a choice. Just like you don’t choose the color of your skin, you cannot choose whom you are sexually attracted to. Virtually all major psychological and medical experts agree that sexual orientation is NOT a choice. Most gay people will tell you its not a choice. Common sense will tell you its not a choice. While science is relatively new to studying homosexuality, studies tend to indicate that its biological.

http://www-news.uchicago.edu/r...http://www.newscientist.com/ch...Gay, Straight Men’s Brain Responses Differhttp://www.foxnews.com/story/0...http://www.livescience.com/hea...http://www.springerlink.com/co...http://blogs.discovermagazine....

There is overwhelming scientific evidence that homosexuality is not a choice. Sexual orientation is generally a biological trait that is determined pre-natally, although there is no one certain thing that explains all of the cases. “Nurture” may have some effect, but for the most part it is biological.

And it should also be noted that:“It is worth noting that many medical and scientific organizations do believe it is impossible to change a person’s sexual orientation and this is displayed in a statement by American Academy of Pediatrics, American Counseling Association, American Association of School Administrators, American Federation of Teachers, American Psychiatric Association, American Psychological Association, American School Health Association, Interfaith Alliance Foundation, National Association of School Psychologists, National Association of Social Workers, and National Education Association.”

I most certainly do not agree, Jj.  To be honest, what I think is "unhealthy" is letting bigots such as yourself spew your bile all over this website.  I don't think there is anything "selfish" about two loving and consenting adults who want the same rights that are guaranteed to ALL Americans through the Constitution.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that Franks is gay. He just seems driven to make everyone 'hate' gays, just as Haggard did from the pulpit while he was pulling in serious money from folks who thought he was in touch with some god. It may be that Trent just has a 'wide stance' in public restrooms, eh?
