Spencer Cullen stole money from Wal-Mart to pay for a sex-change operation.
CORRECTION: the way this post was originally written indicated that Spencer Cullen is physically a man hoping to have a sex-change operation. In fact, Cullen is a woman who wants a sex-change operation. It has since been changed from its original version.

Spencer Danger Cullen, 23, was born with a vagina -- and she's apparently so determined to get a penis that she and a friend burglarized the Walmart where the two worked in order to come up with the cash to fund a sex-change operation.

Cullen's friend, 19-year-old Adriano Valdes Altiveros III, had a slightly more mainstream plan for his end of the cash -- he just wanted a new car.

The pair had apparently planned the heist for days, and on Thursday, the two executed their less-than ingenious plan.

About 2:30 a.m. Thursday, police were called to a Walmart on Gail Gardner Way in Prescott in response to a burglary at the store.

Prescott Lieutenant Andy Reinhardt didn't immediately return our call this afternoon, but gives Prescott's The Daily Courier the following account of the burglary:

"Through investigation and surveillance video, detectives determined that a key was used to enter a locked cash office where $45,000 in cash had been removed," Reinhardt said.

"Altiveros distracted cashiers in the front of the cash office when Cullen went inside the office to remove the cash," Reinhardt said. "Cullen then gave Altiveros the cash."

The pair -- again, both of whom worked at the store -- were arrested the next day...before Cullen arranged to acquire a penis.

Altiveros reportedly got his car, though -- police searched his home and found clothing and a Toyota Supra he'd apparently purchased from someone in the Phoenix area for $22,000. The sale of the car had been arranged prior to the burglary.

The rest of the money was accounted for -- sans about 31 cents -- between the cash and the items found in the suspects' homes, Reinhardt tells the Courier.

Each were booked into Yavapai County jail on felony charges of burglary and theft.

If Cullen's sent to prison for the alleged burglary, her sex-change operation may be delayed even further -- click here to read about Michelle Kosilek, a (male) convicted murderer in Boston who sued the Massachusetts Department of Corrections because he/she was not being adequately treated for gender-identity disorder. The judge ruled Kosilek could receive female hormones to help deal with anxiety and depression, but stopped short of allowing Kosilek to get a tax-payer funded sex-change operation.
