Phoenix police have identified the victim in a fatal shooting last night on the I-10 -- which forced the highway to be closed until about 8:30 this morning -- as 49-year-old Michael Arvallo.

Phoenix Sergeant Steve Martos says the shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. yesterday as Arvallo was driving on the westbound I-10 at 51st Avenue.

Arvallo's truck reportedly crashed into the median -- presumably after he was shot.

Emergency crews arrived and immediately went to work on Arvallo. It didn't take long before the medical crew noticed that Arvallo had been shot, at which point it was "immediately known the collision did not cause his death."

Detectives closed down the highway from 43rd Avenue to 51st Avenue to process the crime scene. They apparently didn't find much.

According to Martos, detectives currently have little information about the shooting -- no motive, no suspect or vehicle description, etc.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department at 602.262.6141 or Silent Witness at 480.WITNESS.

My Voice Nation Help

This crime was stupid and useless.. Mike was one of the BEST people.. not just a "good" person, as I keep hearing him called. When Mike walked into my salon, it didn't matter what kind of day I was having.. he lit the whole place up. His warmth, kindness, amazing sense of humor, innate ability to forgive those who had wronged or hurt him in any way... He wasn't just a client.. he was our friend. The best friend a girl could have... Ill miss his smiles, his jokes, the flowers I'd come back to when I'd been out sick, the threats of bodily harm when I'd sell "his" last jar of pomade... The competition between stylists when it was his turn for a haircut.. He was crazy wonderful. On behalf of Perfect Look Salon, I'd like to offer the entire family and all his friends my sincerest condolences..We'll be praying for him, and asking God to bring his murderer(s) to justice. If not in this life... in the next. This atrocity will affect lives for a long time to come... If there is anything we can do to help, please don't hesitate to ask. Natasha/ Mgr.
