MCSO Claims it's Investigating Employer in Days Inn Illegal Immigrant Roundup

daysinn.jpg
MCSO's August raid of a Phoenix Days Inn has now netted precisely two arrests.
The overall ineffectiveness of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's illegal immigrant roundups aside, one of our biggest criticisms recently has been that they're conducted under the guise of "employer sanctions" operations, despite the MCSO's having never arrested a single employer -- only employees (all of whom tend to have brown skin).

That, the MCSO claims, could be about to change -- according to the MCSO, the employer at the Days Inn the sheriff's office raided last month is currently getting investigated over whether he knew 10 of his 18 employees were illegal immigrants.

The August 24 roundup at the Days Inn hotel in downtown Phoenix netted precisely one arrest that day, despite the MCSO suspecting that 10 of the hotel's employees were illegal immigrants.

"[Arpaio] crowed that the investigation took only two months and yet he had no idea that worker schedules had been changed and was able to arrest only one person," Scottsdale Lieutenant Mike Stauffer, who is looking to unseat Arpaio as the Republican nominee for sheriff, told New Times the day of the raid.

He went on to say he wasn't surprised that the employers were not sanctioned.

Today, Arpaio announced the arrest of a second Days Inn employee, the hotel manager, Jorge Molinar.

Molinar is an illegal immigrant who was targeted during the August roundup. However, he didn't show up to work the day sheriff's deputies stormed the hotel.

Molinar, apparently, tried to go back to work, despite knowing America's self-proclaimed "toughest sheriff" was looking for him.

"Molinar avoided arrest along with nine others and had the audacity to return to the work place," Arpaio says. "This is one example of illegal aliens thumbing their nose at this office, and the laws against illegal immigration. The investigation into the owner of the Days Inn, who hired Molinar, continues."

The sheriff's office declined comment when asked to expand on the investigation into the owner of the hotel, and whether there was a realistic chance that he'd actually be charged with a crime or face sanctions. MCSO Officer Chris Hegstrom simply reiterated the sheriff's claim that "the investigation into the owner of the Days Inn, who hired Molinar, continues."

Arpaio says he's planning another "crime suppression operation" in Phoenix some time in the next week.

OK. Did the owner of the Days Inn property donate to Stauffer's campaign?

Not Surprised

LOL, it's documented that Arpaio's not above retribution against deputies who support his opponent, so I doubt he's not above going after a supporter of his opponent's campaign.

Meanwhile... Joe is more popular than ever and Phoenix New Times is losing ground as the valley's most popular fish wrap and package filler. When asked why New Times has no sway over valley residents Cog Analyst Jodi Vanriggins of Chandler asked "What is New Times? Oh Joe, I love that guy. Is he going to run for President? Here takes some money for Joe please!"

Joe is more popular than ever, I agree, he seems to be getting more popular each and everyday [with the FEDS].  We all enjoy the side-show bullshit he spews on a regular basis, he does excel at his MCSO Ring Master position.  Note: Frany, What has us really pissed off is the blantant disregard for the laws and the people who continue to elect him.    You can expect the needle on the Bullshit-o-flow-meter to start climbing about 18 months out from the his next election ... so far right on target Joe, this is the 4th time Joe.  Remember 4 years ago, right about this time in his election Bullshit Cycle?  That's when the demented accusations started against Dan Saban, a fellow law enforcement fellow.  That's also when the Immigration Raids began [I remember saying to myself..Self, WTF is this old ConMan up to this time... Self replies, no damned good ... once again Self proven to be accurate].  So Frany YOU MUST UNDERSTAND that for those of us that have been watching this continuous and unchanging bullshit GOP led saga unfold over the last 2-3 decades ...  watching these clowns go down in flames is nothing but pure pleasure.  You can call it revenge for all of the lives the Crusty old Clown has destroyed, we prefer to call his upcoming date with the feds (and you can bet your ass it is coming, immigration is in the news on a Fed level and they don't like Sideshow Joe much) JUSTICE PURE AND SIMPLE.    Now I'm thinking that Joe is going to start losing his bowels here soon, as he sees the careers and lives of his henchmen and collaborators getting shredded.  Pearce by the electorate and the rod of disbarrment about to slide up Thomas' sorry ass.  Interesting one of the posters, I believe last night, was babbling something about us not stopping with Pearce... why the hell would we?  The lift Arizona will get from forcefully ridding ourselves of a rogue element... YOU BET.. WORLDWIDE COVERAGE BABY!!!!!  Although I am a slave to history, it is ancient history that draws my undivided attention, local politics is a hobby.  Earlier, on this thread, I made a statement about the number of AZ illegals were picked up by the feds, 56.  There were some great responses.  My next question to the learned bloggers on this topic, HOW MANY TIMES IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES HAS THE FEDERAL GOV. INTERVENTED ON A ROGUE LOCAL AUTHORITY?  (didn't mean to shout, just wanted the question to be heard!).

Let's see how Side-show Joe fares with Lt. Mike Stauffer if he tries his usual baloney.  My thought is the good Lt. will rip his nads off... publicly...

Goodbye Joe.. You really Blow ...  We're done with the Show... you media Hoe.. We don't want no mo'    It's been sad.. we're really glad to see ya' go now....(sung [loosely] to the tune of "Goodbye Stranger" ... Supertramp)

Not at all true. I've had many folks ask me to cut out certain articles from NT and save them, have them framed, or post them in public for all to read. Then the pages are recycled so that ONE DAY SOON NT can zap you buncha yojos once again with the truth.

Recently, we asked random citizens in the street about their opinion of Phoenix New Times. Manny Torez a life long resident of Phoenix and Scottsdale had never heard of New Times. Reporter: "It's a progressive newspaper here in town." Manny: "No, doesn't ring a bell..."Reporter: "Its that rather large paper that is left outside at grocery stores and the like. It's free and has all the adds for head shops, viagra peddlers, and stip bars in the back."Manny: "Mmmm... is that legal? No, I've not seen it honestly."Reporter: "...you know, the fish wrap?"Manny "Oh yeah! I know that wrap. It works pretty good..."Reporter: "Have you had a chance to actually read it"Manny: "What? The fish wrap? Nooooo"

Is this law Racist? Does it specify brown people? Are the people who agree with this law racist? Are those who want this law enforced racist? The law says nothing of little "brown" people but it explains what is illegal entry. It's not very hard to understand. Why is this law "broken"? Why can it be selectively ignored?Illegal alien includes all people who entered illegally, could be Croation, Russian, Chinese, Irish, Canadians and yes even Mexicans. No one single race or people is referenced in the law. Under Title 8 Section 1325 of the U.S. Code, "Improper Entry by Alien," any citizen of any country other than the United States who:Enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers; or Eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers; or Attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact; has committed a federal crime.Violations are punishable by criminal fines and imprisonment for up to six months. Repeat offenses can bring up to two years in prison. Additional civil fines may be imposed at the discretion of immigration judges, but civil fines do not negate the criminal sanctions or nature of the offense.

MCSO Officer Chris Hegstrom simply reiterated the sheriff's claim that "the investigation into the owner of the Days Inn, who hired Molinar, continues."I woder how they'll find the time to investigate this without taking away from Rpiehole's primary mission.

Wait....the "raid" was August 24.Today is September 29.

In my book, that's over a month ago.

And they've not been able to find him in that time?

And the guy "just" went back to work?  Over a month later?  After not showing up for a month?

Since when does an employer let someone skip out for a month then "just come back"?

Not surprised

Sometime you just can't help stupid.  Anyone who would hire back employees after a raid fits that bill.

My guess is that this is why Arpaio is now beating his chest, saying "LOOK, LOOK"  I'm going after the employer.  Big deal, you've still looked the other way plenty.

Unless......there's an "understanding" with the hotel owners (I believe Days Inn is a franchise)...if they offer up this guy, since he was a manager.....Things end there.

Agreed, this is all just more Arpaio PR fluff.

Did anybody else read the article about the Feds rounding up 3000 illegals?  Of those 3000 detainees 2900 were felons or were previously under deportion orders.  56 of those individuals were picked up in Arizona.  I guess I haven't been tracking the numbers of total illegals arrested during Arpiao's 3 years worth of raids but I'm pretty sure it's less than 56 and probably, all told, cost considerably more taxpayer $$$ that one Federal Raid.

Gerry_C
Gerry_C

He has picked up more than 56 I believe.  However, the resources deployed per arrest are extreme in quantity.  Further, Ole Saggy Balls claims to spend 2 - 9 months of intense investigation for each raid.  The raid costs and the investigative costs together are insane when balanced with the LE value delivered.

So, is it accurate to say that MCSO truly IS NOT the only agency enforcing immigration violations?

Are you suggesting that the mentally ill MCSO shurf has been untruthful?

Wow... who woulda thunk it?

More to the point, what percentage of Arpaio's arrested maids, busboys, corn vendors, landscapers, dry cleaning ladies had felony or even criminal backgrounds?

This is the difference between LE  protecting the public vs.  public press ops.

Gerry_C
Gerry_C

But DiscussionPoint,  They are all criminals the moment they stepped over the border.  What part of illegal don't you understand?  Maybe they are.  More accurately, unless they have been previously deported, they have committed a Federal Civil Violation that has been further criminalized by Arizona.  I would be more comfy if Arpaio would focus on warrants on illegal immigrants wanted for either felony or misdemeanor crimes as well.  He could fill his jail with them pretty quickly.  But they are harder to find than a busboy.  Did anybody tell him the mileage he could get out of arresting an illegal immigrant wanted for a Mesa murder?  That would be worth 3 press releases, 2 press conferences, and substantial publicity for "this" Sheriff.

Too late to change that bird's feathers.  Arpaio's made a name for himself arresting the easy targets who go to work everyday, maids, busboys, corn vendors, landscapers, dry cleaning ladies.

My guess is this owner said something stupid, and Arpaio finally found an easy opportunity he could use in attempt  to silence his critics on his laughable record of "employer" sanctions, without actually having to go after valley employers.

Arpaio = pathetic excuse of a sheriff.  More cameras ops coming soon to an area near you.
