Joe Arpaio to Barack Obama: Look at Me, Look at Me!

arpaioattention.jpg

President Barack Obama today told a representative of a national Latino group that Arizona's is not the model the rest of the country should mirror when it comes to handling illegal immigration.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio responded by issuing a press release saying that not only are his methods of enforcing illegal immigration laws working, but that the president should look to America's self-proclaimed "toughest sheriff" for some advice on immigration.

Arpaio, as he often does, points to his days with the Drug Enforcement Administration (over 20 years ago) as the reason why Obama should have a "personal conversation" with him about his illegal immigration enforcement methods.

"I enforce the law, including state and federal law, because I took an oath of office as an elected sheriff to do so. The president of the United States should understand that and applaud me for that effort, not criticize me," Arpaio says.

Obama shied away from questions posed by AOL Latino Senior Editor Gabriel Lerner about the status of the Department of Justice's investigation into Arpaio's alleged misdeeds, which has now taken nearly three years, with no end in sight.

See video of Obama's comments below.

HEY EVERY ONE, GATHER AROUND AND LISTEN AS I TELL YOU ALL A LITTLE SECRET. We the people of this great nation are all to blame. We stand on a party line, or on one detail of a politician, and fail to sit back and take in the larger picture. You all continue to divide yourselves, and it will bite us very soon. You think it has yet? You think this is the worst it can get? We rally around some group and not around the nation and the ideas it is based on. I'm sure G.W. back in the day was like "lets set this new nation up to fall in to debt and despair." Despair of the fellow man. Yeah, that's the blue print we will use.  I'm pretty sure that was not the thought.  If I have any idea as to what it all was for, the reason I served this country, it would be something like this:

We are all here to live together, in peace. We left oppression to come here. Why are we bringing it back? Why do we have a war on the people?

Help the deficit! Hemp is an illegal crop in only one of the modern powers. The US. A whole industry shunned because it looks like that "evil pot," and that's only one reason. How amazing would it be if we all looked up hemp right now and educated ourselves? Kentucky, a state if you don't know, is piss broke. Much like the state you love and live in. Hemp was a super crop in this and many regions. Kentuky was hit especially hard. A simple crop could come in and eradicate that problem. Just look it up and don't take my word for it (even though it is valid).  Marijuana is another thing I would get modern edu on. I could go on but for the sake of time I will not. So many topics fit this bill. With all this information, and the speed of which we immerse ourselves in it, do we really take advantage of it? Do you really look into that candidate you vote for? Really? Do you look at the voteing records they have made in the past? What do they really stand for? Do you really know? Do you just simply listen to them and the truth we all know they speak 24/7? Do we rely on that corporate news outlook on the situation? If so pat yourself on the back. You helped us get here. If we don't look for the facts ourselves, how can we really make an informed decision? I cannot say I'm perfect. I only hope to get better with my voting habits, so maybe I can help my country out again, by becoming a TRULY informed voter, and getting out to vote! Doesn't help how much you care, if you don't at least vote you have no reason to discuss the state of affairs; unless you go this time and the one after and after. You have the ability. NO ONE CAN STOP YOU!!!!

Be safe, be informed, and be conscious of the company you keep. Love you my Country mates!

Good for our president.  Arizona is indeed NOT the state to draw from.Sheriff Joe is just another foolish R that insists their way is the right way.

Did youknow that it is a felony for an illegal immigrant to do business with the state government agency for basic things like getting a driver's license? Why isn't Obwama doing something about this?

When a Sheriff that lets a Bully and crooks run his Dept and spends in excess $99 Million dollars, for things like a fancy Bus that sits unlicensed for two years, and spends more time and money on his EGO with the Media, he shouldn't be giving advice on anything to anyone.  He's shown no interest in the running of the Sheriff's Dept.  His revenge on judges and politicians who didn't bow to him, backfired, and  now is in Hot Water with the Feds.  The only thing he should be giving is lessons on how to completely destroy a Sheriffs department and the moral of it's personnel.  The only thing he learned is how to become a bigger Bully than the one he let ruin his Department.  He should be ashamed, not proud of anything he's done. I was a fool enough to vote for him twice, but won't be doing that again, guess I'm a slow learner.

LOL for those slamming Obama, name the last GOP president besides Reagan that has done more...heres a clue, THERE ISNT ONE! Get over the fact that he is black, its old, its in the past, and more important its pathetic. While Bush was in office we had the worst terrorist attack ever, we were lied to so that Bush could go finish what daddy started, and our economy was ran into the ground and pounded by a sledge hammer on top of it!

"Arpaio, as he often does, points to his days with the Drug Enforcement Administration (over 20 years ago) as the reason why Obama should have a 'personal conversation' with him..."

Right. Let's consider what his time as a narc implies. As far as I'm concerned, his days as a narc mainly illustrate his proclivity for lies, subterfuge, bullying, and abuse of power. All of that was in service of a political agenda and strategy fatally flawed from its inception. He continues to build upon the legacy of that original sin.

OK I just wanted to show my fellow liberals how difficult it will be to address Obama's lack of initiative. If you can dream up a lie please do. We have a very difficult task ahead of us. Obama has done so poorly... but perhaps we can all lie together and con people with stupid shit like "HOPE" and that shit. Let's try. If you have a good lie let us all know.

The reality of the situation and the main reason I wanted Obama to win the last election is that he would do the least harm and I believe he has in comparison to what mccain and palin would have done. Giving money and tax breaks to the rich doesn't work, w bush has proven this by giving Obama a disasterou economic situation that is close to impossible to fix. Would the economy or job situation be demonstably different if Obama had not won and mccain/palin did... I highly doubt it since the economy was already starting to crumble when Obama took office and neither party would have been able to stop the inevitable. I doesn't appear and that Obama has all or any of the answers but I also think that giving any more money to corporations or rich people who actually made their money on all those below them monetarily is going to increase job creation because it didn't during the end of the bush years. So, yes Obama deserves some criticism but I have yet to see his detractors coming up with alternatives that will work or are not more of the same that got us to where we are currently. What is really moronic is to think that mccain and the ever moronic palin would have done any better... that is wishful thinking or more appropriately a fantasy.

I wonder if people would be so stupid as to believe it was the Republican's fault? We could say they've blocked Obama's initatives or something stupid like that. Liberals are normally pretty stupid so maybe they would believe it?

Guest23
Guest23

I wonder if people will be so stupid to believe what you are spouting... it is just more of the same stupid rhetoric. Both parties are to blame, simple as that. Obamas policies never had a chance to make much of a difference if they could due to the republicans and esp the tea partys unmovable stance and inability to compromise which obama did attempt to do but the repubs want obama to fail at all costs even risking the usas credit rating in the process. The public apparently is blaming congress more so than the president for all the problems if there is any truth to the polls and who runs congress but the repubs so you attempting to take any blame off the repubs is laughable. I vote on issues and not by political party which I think any intelligent person would do. But placing all the blame on the potus is ridiculous when it was a mixture of both parties and years of mismanagment that have brought us to a point where no matter who was potus probably couldn't do much about it. We are in for rougher times ahead than I think any one realizes... as the country has to pay the piper one way or another. What I would like to see is new ideas at least attempted and dispense with those policies that have not worked in the past... which is something I have a hard time seeing the repubs getting behind but we shall see.

Hi Richard, Yes most liberals will fall for that but the average person will not be so stupid. We should probably just admit Obama is a complete failure. I know that will alienate the blacks but really who cares?

Funny stuff, really. Someone needs to explain to the MCSO shurf that he's nothing more than a county shurf in Arizona. One of fifteen in the state, and probably one of hundreds or thousands in the United States.

We have just ONE president. It's not likely he would be very impressed with one washed up county sheriff who will be eighty years of age next June, if he makes it that far.

No, there is no reason Mr. Obama should pay attention to the Old Horse's Ass.

(For the record I don't personally care for Mr. Obama and I didn't vote for him)

Even the Flaccid Fool knows this. He's just too stupid and demented to acknowledge it.

I hope you didn't think mccain and palin were capable of turning the economy around. I used to respect mccain as a moderate republican but ever since he has attempted to enter the potus race he has exhibited the worst of political backtracking and pandering, so much so I find it embarrasing and palin as vp and possibly becoming president if something happened to the aging and frail mccain... it is something I would not like to imagine experiencing in my worst nightmares. I am no fan of obama but he was the best choice considering what we had to choose from and looking at the current republican field it looks like it will be the same in the next election.

Tommy Collins
Tommy Collins

It wasn't pretty, that's for damn sure. Like you I have very little respect for Sen. McCain as a senator. I do respect and appreciate his service in the military and his time served as a POW in Viet Nam, however.

Sarah Palin, in my opinion, cost him the election. Had he chosen Romney I think the outcome might have been different.

Interestingly, so many of the candidates for POTUS seem to have no grasp of what the reality of being POTUS is all about, until they have served in that office for a year or so. Especially, like Obama, those who have no military experience and/or no private business experience.

The level of intelligence information and security at POTUS is beyond the belief abilities of most U.S. citizens and I'm sure it's hard for someone like Obama to understand until he is living it.

Did I think that McCain and the 'she dunderhead' were capable of turning the economy around? No, not at all.

But, I don't think either of them would be concocting new programs costing billions of dollars and then saying, simply, "this program will be paid for", without any clue where the money might come from, other than INCREASING the national debt.

Ok, Sarah would update her wardrobe and cost us a couple hundred thousand dollars for 'lifter' undergarments (cheaper than surgery)... but that would eventually be paid back by some PAC or another. I guess we could coin that the 'Booby Lift PAC'...

I think if mccain waz elected what we would be in line for was an ever widening gap between the haves and the have nots, a continuation of the erosion of civil rights, an upturn in the mixing of church and state via legislation disregarding the constitutions stand on the seperation of church and state, corporations and lobbyists taking more and more power away from the people, social services being cut more and more and more people suffering due to this, health insurance costs rising, more employers cutting health benefits, less programs to help the unemployed, social security moving further out of reach of me ever collecting on what I paid into it... the list could go on and on. Simply just to protect the usa from palin possibly becoming potus, which is very possible considering mccains age and health, that the lessor evil was obama. I don't see a republican candidate other than possibly romney, who I think is cowtowing to the right on issues he wouldn't normally have, as possibly a contender but his being a mormon and knowing very well the origins of that faith which are hardcore out there in left field and exremely wacko and which are very recent in invention... it is just very scary thinking someone that actually believes in something so ridiculous and may become the potus. The rest of the repub potus candidates are frightening esp. Santorum, bachman and though perry sounds good for creating all those jobs in texas it doesn't mean much unless you want to be a walmart employee getting paid minimum wage and receiving no health insurance. I still think obama as useless as he may be will be less harmfull than any of the republicans. If only we could elect a different democrat or actually get a decent moderate republican. I must be dreamin' again.

And when Joe is defeated next year by Mike Stauffer, then indicted and perp-walked by the feds, he will lose his so-called "popularity." Joe's been unpopular since 2000. He's had to rig each election since then to ensure a win. This criminal shouldn't even be our shurf.

Sure, joes popularity is due to an uninformed public that gets all their political info from fox news, right wing politicians propagandist rhetoric and generally sticking their head in the sand when confronted with actual facts. There are many well off individuals that do not agree with arpaios policies and practices, to state otherwise is just more propaganda.

Nope, I just have had conversations with many old folk in sun city that support ol' joe. Most people don't like joe???, actually most are indifferent and don't think of him at all, the problem is that those with time on their hands(retired folk) are more politically active when it comes to voting and are also more susceptible to right wing rhetoric propaganda than others... thus people like arpaio, pearce, and brewer get elected.
