Mesa police say a teen walked into the open garage at the home of his ex-girlfriend, went into the laundry room, and fatally shot the girl's mother yesterday afternoon.

The woman's husband was home at the time of the shooting, which happened in a neighborhood near Baseline and Sossaman Roads about 3 p.m.

According to police, the 42-year-old victim's husband didn't hear any arguing prior to the shooting, just a single gunshot.

The victim was taken to a local hospital in life-threatening condition. She later died from the gunshot, which was reportedly to her head.

After the shooting, the 16-year-old suspect fled the scene on foot -- leaving the gun inside the home. He was found shortly after in an apartment complex near Superstition Springs Mall and arrested without incident.

Few other details have been released by authorities -- the suspect will be charged with murder, but it's unclear whether he'll be charged as an adult.

Jerry Cobb, spokesman for the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, tells New Times a decision will be made later today about whether to charge the teen as an adult.

A logical out come: She "dissed" him and therefore he felt justified in killing her. Welcome to the modern world.
