How Many of Joe Arpaio's Deputies Does it Take to Arrest One Illegal Immigrant? Seriously, We Want to Know

daysinn.jpg
Joe Arpaio raided a Days Inn this morning in search of 10 suspected illegal immigrants. Only one was actually arrested.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio conducted his 51st illegal immigrant roundup (under the guise of an "employer sanctions" operation. Per usual, no employers were arrested) this morning. It netted precisely one arrest.

So, how many deputies did it take to bring this criminal to justice? Your guess is as good as ours -- the MCSO won't say.

We've contacted an spokesman, asking for an estimate of how many deputies were used in this morning's raid of a Days Inn hotel in downtown Phoenix. However, Officer Chris Hegstrom says he doesn't have that information at the moment.

We called the Days Inn to see if they would give us a rough estimate of the number of deputies used to nab the immigrant, but the woman we spoke to didn't want to talk about it.

We even reached out to an Arizona Republic reporter who was apparently on the scene. She didn't get back to us.

We'll take a stab at it and estimate that Arpaio rolled into the Days Inn this morning with at least 10 deputies -- and that's our conservative estimate. Again, the operation netted one arrest.

"The sheriff once again displayed his inept, attention seeking, ineffective brand of what he thinks is law enforcement this morning," Scottsdale Lieutenant Mike Stauffer, who is looking to unseat Arpaio as the Republican nominee for sheriff, tells New Times. "He crowed that the investigation took only two months and yet he had no idea that worker schedules had been changed and was able to arrest only one person. I am also not surprised that the employers were not sanctioned."

According to the MCSO, deputies were looking for 10 of the hotel's 18 employees, all of whom, it determined, were in the country illegally and using phony identification to work.

Nine of the 10 suspected illegal immigrants didn't show up for work today, according to the Republic's account of the raid.

We asked the MCSO if it appears those employees were tipped off about the raid (the MCSO does have a history of criminals who've infiltrated the agency's anti human-smuggling task force).

The MCSO's response: crickets.

Would someone please explain to me how we will decrease unemployment by granting amnesty to some or most of the 12,000,000 people who entered the United States by illegal means?

When is the sheriff and his office going to move out the luxury penthouse suites of the Wells Fargo Bank building? The county leaders talk about cutting waste and saving tax $$'s. The sheriff has been allowed to go along his merry way, all thumbing his nose at the taxpayers. arpaio is no joke but a sick demented old man propped up by those who mirror his image. Truly disgusting to be stuck in this hellhole state.

Comrades, you must admit, that if the Sheriffs men, by arresting just one border criminal, stop 100 border criminals from coming over for fear of also being arrested, then it's worth it. It's just that, fellow Comrades, 20 million illegal aliens is just a statistic to you, but arresting one is something you can grasp, as our leader, Uncle Joe,(not Arpaio) used to say

And the Sheriff Joe Show continues.  A three ring circus with the Sheriff of What-a-Ham as the "Master" of ceremonies.  It's getting pretty old really, time to take it off the air, ratings have dropped and popularity is in the toilet.  Will we get to see a funeral for this "star" as well?

Isn't it about the time that MCSO needs to be out of Well's Fargo?  Souldn't Joke be packing and playing with bubble wrap?

Or will the County Sheriff need to serve eviction papers on Arpaio and his clown circus?

Transparency. THAT'S what MCSO is all about...

Uh huh...

Not Surprised

I only counted 4 - 5 MCSO vehicles in the Fox video I watched.  Joe's gone soft...I didn't see the tank, command center, or SWAT armored vehicle!!!

I feel cheated...we didn't get our daily dose of Arpaio's "operation publicity"!!!

If in fact Arpaio didn't spend thousands of dollars in order to to arrest only one maid...for that I would be grateful, but with a 2 month "investigation," I'm sure the tab's already well into the thousands.

Comrade, that redneck, hillbilly,Sheriff Joe, and his men just busted a drug smuggling ring, seized 200,000 dollars of drug money and a number of AK-47 assault rifles. All this happened while you and the gang here were probably peacefully asleep in your beds. ALL OF THE SUSPECTS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY WERE MEXICAN NATIONALS, A.K.A. ILLEGAL ALIENS.  Go back to sleep clowns, and let a man do a mans job keeping you safe..

I have the eviction letter from Wells Fargo pinned up on my cubical wall. It is dated 1/21/10.  It says the lease expires 9//30/13 and WF Bank will waive the 12 month notice of termination to accommodate the vacating and relocation of the18th and 19th floors.

He could have arrested more people by asking the people that do his home landscaping for their papers.

This was a COMPLETE waste of money,

Not nearly as many that it will take to find out the truth about the man in the w/h trying to distort the truth and keep his records of how he came to America on a foriegn student pass, that can be denied or be found to be the truth with relitive ease, but the lyer in chief is trying to keep them tied up in court and have them sealed forever........people do not hide there records unless they have something to hide. I am one American who wants to know the truth about this man in the w/h, somehow, I'm sure Joe's case will come to the courts before obummers documents that would prove he has been lying to the American people. Thank God for Sheriff Joe Arpaio

Well, was it really a waste of money? The cops have nothing to do, really. At least they are moving around. Would you rather they sit around and drink coffee and eat donuts like the Los Angeles Police do, and allow illegal aliens to run rampant as they do under the Chief of police and Ex-gangbanger, Mayor Villaraigosa?

I don't think they give out feloney warrents for "petty" crimes; if anything the crime these people are arrented for is a civil violation in most casses and enough of those casses result in a civil lawsuit so the cost and effect is way out of controll. On those numbers alone the result is a net negative for all of us accept good old Joe cause well, people do not pay close enough attention and keep voting for him out of emotion and not principle effective, efficient law enforcement pollicies.

Give it a minute of thought, Bobby. The stats tell me that a certain percentage of the outstanding warrants are very likely for some criminals who are also here illegally (which is an immigration violation, of course). By working at clearing the backlog of warrants they likely will arrest some of those immigrant criminals, as well. Once arrested, many of the criminal element of all races, colors, and creeds; are more than willing to rat off criminal enterprises for special consideration by the courts.

MCSO has been ignoring an excellent opportunity to arrest a BUNCH of known criminals while in pursuit of a handful of suspected illegals who are working, paying taxes, etc.

Imagine the media coverage if MCSO actually had a career criminal apprehension unit...

In other words, comrade, the cops should focus on American citizens that commit petty crimes and leave border criminals alone. Got it.

Bobby writes:  "The cops (I'm assuming we're talking about deputies here) have nothing to do, really."

My vote says if they have nothing to do, put them to work serving the 40,000 warrants that are backlogged, BETTER YET, go back and open the cases that have been "closed by exception" and perform thorough investigations...maybe they can even resolve a few of them.

Any decent law enforcement manager (ie, sheriff) would have already gotten to it!

Bobby, I hope you're just a pot stirrer and not as ignorant as your posts!

No, they should be tracking down the many thousands of felony arrest warrant fugitives out there rather than continually allowing them to pile up why they chase their tails catching non-violent offenders. Our city is no safer than it was yesterday because of this waste of time and money.
