Honeywell Contract is Target of Anti-Arizona Immigration Activists in Los Angeles

After Arizona lawmakers passed SB1070, calls for action by immigration activists were heard loudly in California.

San Francisco and Los Angeles announced boycotts against the state -- but reality quickly set in when city leaders realized such plans might come back to hurt them.

As L.A. Weekly writer Gene Maddaus points out this week, the Los Angeles boycott was a failure: "Aside from a single conference in Phoenix that LAPD officers were forbidden to attend, absolutely nothing has changed."

But, as Maddaus writes, the high-minded, liberal Los Angeles City Council is getting another chance to put the hurt on bad, old Arizona. Sometime in the coming weeks, the council will vote whether to hand Honeywell a $90 million contract to upgrade electronics at sewage facilities.

Immigration activists including Councilman Ed Reyes are pushing to punish Arizona by denying the contract to Honeywell, which they say is based in Arizona.

When Honeywell put in a bid for the work, it used a Phoenix address. But now, with $90 million on the line, the company is throwing Arizona under the bus and claiming it's based in Morristown, New Jersey.

Complicating matters, though, is the fact that a rival for the sewage-plant computer work is also pushing the L.A. government to uphold its promise to discipline Arizona. Naturally, the company, Emerson, thinks it should be awarded the contract instead. Yet Emerson also has an Arizona office.

Meanwhile, officials with the sewage department fret that any delays in awarding the contract could mean system failures that result in the release of huge quantities of "noxious gas."

Some might say that gas has already been released -- the fumes of faux indignation from the L.A. City Council.

Sounds good, perhaps they even asked you the magic closing question. Are they counting on now having  ready  you all to sign your new contract.

No one in California cares. Not the Chinese population, not the Anglo's, not the Indians, Vietnamese, Cambodians, Samoans, NO ONE, but the usual asshole Mexican reconquista types that are in Los Angeles city government like Ed Reyes. Oh, and you idiots on this blog. By the way, I know of what I speak, I only live a few miles from L.A., a true dump of a city. We had a history of a good old White boys type that were corrupt enough, but my bet is, they ain't got nothing on the Mexicans that are now in office for shear corruption, already illustrated by so many.

I must agree with Gene Maddaus's assertion. None of these recent lame boycotts of our state by the rabid "La Raza" were effective. There was no major impact, especially on the tourism industry, at which ironically saw an increased of visitors last year, despite these ultra "La Raza" boycotts. If anything, all this ever did was to put a damper on every working American from all walks of life, including their businesses. Many of them mom&pop shops owned & operated by non-Whites.. I gotta give a big middle finger to that boycott bigot--Raul Grivalja. That drunk looks like a dickwad btw.

Ryan, Ryan, !! Even though your'e a non-Aryan, which is fine with me since I can't imagine what that is anyway, have you had an awakening to the fact that Arizona, simply has people in it that hate the state, even people in power. Amazing, or simply a sign of intelligence, either way it's good.

"Even though you're a non-Aryan, which is fine with me since I can't imagine what that is anyway,"

It means I'm a non-White.

Then again, do I have to be an ultra Liberal, because I'm a non-White? No.

You really can't have it both ways, Ryan. Either the boycotts had no major impact, or they were putting a damper on every working class American. You can't claim both at the same time and expect to be taken seriously.

Ok, allow me to clarify my context, plain and simple:

1.) The boycotts itself had no impact on STOPPING SB1070 . After all, isn't that the purpose of Raul's boycott was based upon?: A protest of SB1070?

2.) Drunkard Raul Grivajala's call for a boycott of Arizona has hurt the most vulnerable:Small business and family owned mom&pop shops. Combined his inane traitorous boycott with the economic recession, you are only hurting the weak. In this case--small business owners and their families. While the Republican backed big corporations suffered no impact.

This is not both ways.

Yep, you are with it alright.

why the hate?
why the hate?

I work for Honeywell in Arizona and am against SB1070 and I'm sure there are many coworkers of mine who are as well (I don't make a habit of discussing politics at work).  Why should Arizona citizens who are already suffering so much from major unemployment issues and misguided hate from people in other places be punished because of what our government has done?  Have people not realized that the citizens are not a part of "ethnic cleansing"?  My husband is hispanic and has lived in Arizona his entire life and has never felt any racism by any citizens who live here...but does have problems with our government and law enforcement on the other hand. We vote for what we believe in and have attended peaceful protest during times we deemed necessary.  We have a young daughter and stable job and both grew up here...what are people like us supposed to do, move because of this law?  We can't because we can't afford it.  People are punishing the Arizona citizens by not bring jobs here and I don't really understand how that is fair when SB1070 was never even voted on by the people who live here?  Maybe I'm not seeing the forest for the trees...can someone explain why boycotting businesses here has anything to do with punishing Governor Brewer?  I don't get it...  Oh and for the record, Honeywell Corporate IS based out of New Jersey, that is where my checks come from.  They have facilities all over the world, Arizona is only one component of their global business.  I'm not going to go into defending any major corporation here mind you, not even one I work for since I know there are many things that I personally disagree with when it comes to any corporate business practices...however that is just a fact I thought I would clarify since the story seems to be misleading somewhat.

Maam, Arizona is not losing business. That's simply bullshit propoganda from some of the clowns on this blog and the reconquista Mexican nationalists at heart in power in Arizona, like Raul Grijalva. Just ignore it and don't lose any sleep.

"Have people not realized that the citizens are not a part of "ethnic cleansing"?"  "How that is fair when SB1070 was never even voted on by the people who live here?"

Arizonans elected right-wing lunatic-fringe politicians with an agenda of ethnic cleansing. Not all Arizonans, but a majority of them, and the minority are along for the ride. Hence, the citizens are a part of "ethnic cleansing." I am glad you have the courage to protest against this unjust law. Sorry if you feel like collateral damage.

As far as the relationship between the boycott and Brewer, Pearce and the rest of the Sandland Reich? If they lose the support of the business community, they are out of the game, and exerting pressure on the business community through a boycott is a way to make that happen.

Good. Arizona deserves to lose business.

You think you can be the nation's poster boy for ethnic cleansing and still enjoy popularity? Think again. You are losing business, and losing tourism dollars. Suck on it, Arizona.

Arizona, is one of the most popular tourist destinations for European tourists, (Grand Canyon, Old West, Sheriff Joe,etc.) It isn't losing any business and a hick ass town like Los Angeles and the reconquista Mexican polticians that have burrowed into city government, like Ed Reyes, Ex-gangbanger Mayor Villar, and others, sure as hell aren't going to accomplish anything. For one thing, their too busy being corrupt.

It made me laugh when some idiots called for a boycott of Arizona Iced Tea.
