Diamondbacks Get Squashed by Giants In Afternoon Contest--Still Win Series

The San Francisco Giants have just beaten the Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 8-1 to move back into first place in the NL West.

​But the resurgent D-Backs proved in winning two of three games in the critical Bay Area series that they are likely to be a factor until season's end.

Arizona played sloppily at times, best personified by the crushing second-base pickoff of Willie Bloomquist in the third inning.

It all went downhill for the D-Backs immediately after that, when the Giants threw a four-spot on them in their half of the third.

Jason Marquis' first start for Arizona was less than memorable, though he didn't pitch terribly. He should help in the stretch drive that will end at the start of October, about 50 games from now.

Newly acquired Carlos Beltran collected three hits for San Fran.

Just one game in a long haul at the end of a very successful road trip that ended with a 6-3 mark.

The D-Backs have a much-needed day off tomorrow, and then open a three-game weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night back at Chase Field.

That game is set to start at 6:40 p.m., and will air on Channel 34 (FSN-AZ) and KTAR620.
