Senator Linda Gray: "I Think [Casey Anthony's] Guilty." Plans to Push for "Caylee's Law" in Arizona

Turns out, a lot of people seem to think Casey Anthony got off easy when she was acquitted of charges that she murdered her daughter, Caylee, earlier this month. State Senator Linda Gray is amongst them.

"I think [Anthony's] guilty. I think she had something to do with the death of her child," Gray tells New Times.

In response, Gray says she plans to push for "Caylee's Law" in Arizona, a law that would make it a felony for a parent to not report their child missing within 24 hours of his or her disappearance.

"Even if Florida had this law [at the time of Caylee's disappearance] it wouldn't have made a difference," Gray concedes.

In other words, Caylee Anthony would still be dead, even with a law like the one proposed in place. However, the difference, Gray says, is the punishment Anthony would have receieved for not reporting her daughter missing for 31 days would have been far more severe than the one to which she was sentenced.

While acquitted of the murder and child abuse charges, Casey Anthony was found guilty of four counts of lying to police and given the maximum sentence for each crime -- a year in jail -- to be served consecutively. However, because of time served and good behavior, Anthony was released from jail over the weekend and, according to ABC News' rumor department, might be in Prescott hiding out. She might still be in jail -- rather than a free woman -- if the law Gray proposes were already in place.

The bill Gray would propose would make exceptions for older kids, runaways, or cases of divorced parents not bringing the child back in time.

Gray says she hasn't spoken much with other legislators about her proposal, but says she's received over 1,000 emails from constituents about it, which she says is rare for a single issue.

"Gray says she hasn't spoken much with other legislators about her proposal, but says she's received over 1,000 emails from constituents about it, which she says is rare for a single issue."

If that's the yardstick, lets send her a thousand e-mails asking her to decriminalize cannabis.

New rule-

If your knickers are in a knot over something that happened to a child and was plastered all over the tabloids, buy flowers, build a statue, commission a memorial. Don't make up a law addressing a freakish incident after the fact and then name it after them. That's bad public policy.

Sen Linda Gray is another useless legislator.  She probably sat at home thinking how she can get media attention from this case.. sounds like Arpaio's tactics.

She sits at home IN PRESCOTT .. thinking.. "what other useless laws can I conjur up to avoid AZ's real problems?"

She is a carpet bagger.. she and her retired Phx PD husband Larry Gray live in Prescott.. she still uses her old address to hold on to her Senate seat.

If this carpet bagger introduced "Casey's Law" its only because it'll get her name in the news.  She hates kids.. he hates it when they write letters to her.  She wants to deny them citizenship.  She's a monster!

Dead child=$$s for Politicians
Dead child=$$s for Politicians

This is not about Casey Anthony and her child who is gone forever. This is about how to create another money-making scheme for those in power and control.

Linda Gray, How about Sentencing reform? The taxpayers cannot afford or sustain the monstrosity the lawmakers created that have turned Arizona into a Prison state?? Who wants to bring a business or raise a family in a state that puts them ALL at risk? Call your emergency hearing on this rather than sweeping the hard work done by so many under the rug!!

Laws like this written during a moral panic should not be allowed. They only take more rights away from ALL parents, not just the bad ones. Haven't we learned from the Adam Walsh Act?? Where the innocent and children are thrown into the same box with the sickest and most depraved violent offenders. Wake up Senator Linda Gray, you should know better. Tired of politicians using these media driven stories to "get a vote". It's a sick game that lawmakers have used to turn on their own constituents.

More knee jerk reaction by a total jerkoff politician.

Politicians riding the wave of public indignation.   It almost brings a tear to my eye that she cares so much.    Reactionary puke politicians are what makes this country what it is today.

More useless political horse shit from our venerable state legislature.

The next proactive idea drummed up by a politician will be the first in quite some time.  Why is it that their initiative(s) are always reactionary?  Because they are stupid, and this is yet another example of a waste of everyone's time.  As noted above, nearly everyone walking this earth would report their child missing within 24 hrs.  Way to go out on a limb, Ms. Gray.

"As noted above, nearly everyone walking this earth would report their child missing within 24 hrs."

Perhaps more importantly, what are the odds that the next time somebody doesn't report their child missing within 24 hours, it will be a similar scenario to Casey Anthony's? Pretty remote, right? It was in part the freakish and improbable nature of the Casey Anthony case that kept it in the spotlight.

Or, to state the flip side, what are the odds that the first person charged under this new law will have entirely different and much less malign reasons for not reporting their child missing, but will nonetheless be facing a punishment crafted with Casey Anthony in mind?

I don't know or understand why they can't charge her with something like neglect.  Anything for not reporting her daughter missing and lying to everybody about it.  She fucked with a lot of people's lives when she did those things.

James, did you see the picture of Anthony sitting on OJ's lap with the same words?

Haha. I did. There's a lot of funny Casey/OJ pics out there. Just Google search "Casey Anthony funny."

I did and couldn't find anything. I will take your word for it though.

Normal people already report their children missing...people who killed their kids don't report their kids missing.  What is this law going to do?

Hey, we don't need more laws, we just need to enforce the laws we already have.  It's funny how the the "Party of Less Government" is all in favor of MORE government when it suits them.  Hock, Pecee69 and Jason have all stated what is obvious for rational persons; but, I guess politicians, and the GOP in general aren't rational to begin with.

Casey Anthony is not normal. She must've read the Flaccid Fool's books while in jail.

This law will make it a crime to not report a missing kid. I think the feds need to pursue this.

Pecee69

I have no doubt Casey killed her child, and no law would have prevented it, however, if this law had been in effect, either Caylees body might have been found more quickly and therefore there would have been more forensic evidence to help convict Casey, or Casey would still be in jail for not reporting the "disappearence". Laws are not passed for "normal" people, they are there because of the "NOT normal" people.

Criminal could care less about the laws or how many get written. This is nothing more than political grandstanding by another whacked out politician trying to cash is.

Coz, Well said!!  You hit it out of the ball park. We're sick and tired of the legislators who use their positions of power to "cash in" at the peoples' expense.
