Punks Target 71-Year-Old Medical Marijuana Applicant for Burglary Attempt. Victim Only Had Small Amount of Weed

According to the Phoenix Police Department, about 5:30 p.m. yesterday, a neighbor of the victim's called 9-1-1 to report that four men were breaking into the home of the victim in the 5000 block of North 11th Avenue.
When officers responded to the scene, an air unit that had been dispatched spotted the four alleged burglars as they were running toward a Light Rail station near 7th Avenue and Camelback Road.
All four -- 18-year-old Shaldon Patterson, an unidentified 17-year-old, and two 16-year-old boys -- were taken into custody.
After interviewing the victim, it was discovered that he'd recently applied for a medical-marijuana card. He'd also applied for a permit that would allow him to grow his own weed.
The four suspects later told police that they found out the victim had applied for the card, which is why they targeted his house.
According to Phoenix Sergeant Steve Martos, the would-be thieves wouldn't have made off with much weed. He tells New Times there was a little bit found in the victim's home, but probably not "the amount the burglars were looking for."
Last month, a would-be robber was killed when he tried to steal pot from a guy who'd been advertising himself as a medical-marijuana salesman.

Patterson and the other three suspects were each booked on charges of burglary and criminal damage.
