Nancy Grace Made Us (Almost) Root for Casey Anthony to Walk

Categories: News analysis
Seems that everywhere we went yesterday, everyone wanted to discuss the surprise acquittal of Florida's Casey Anthony, who went from facing the death penalty to the cusp of being set free into a world that hates everything about her.
nancy grace.jpg
Nancy Grace: "The Devil is dancing tonight."
Many folks also ask our opinions of one Nancy Grace, the onetime prosecutor-turned-angry-TV talking head, whose spur-of-the-moment comments after the verdict was read were disgustingly memorable.

"She may be celebrating tonight," Grace said in part of the 26-year-old defendant whom she had dubbed "The Tot Mom," but "she will ultimately pay.

"As the defense sits by and has their champagne toast after that not-guilty verdict, somewhere out there the Devil is dancing tonight."

We have been on the air with Ms. Grace a few times over the years, and have felt the brunt of her bullying and righteous personality.

She is a force of nature, and we don't mean that as a compliment.

We remember telling her one time on live TV, "Hey, are you going to let me get a word in here, or what?"

Her answer: "No."
Grace never has come upon a criminal defendant who by her way of thinking doesn't deserve to be taken to the town square to be publicly flogged and stoned (she shares a kinship in that regard with Andrew Peyton Thomas, the former Maricopa County Attorney now in trouble with the State Bar of Arizona).

Grace was largely responsible for taking the infamous Anthony murder case to new heights over the three-year melodrama that pretty much ended with Anthony's acquittal on all but a few misdemeanor charges.

Nancy made it clear from day one that the trampy little white chick's cell on death row was awaiting her, with the actual murder trial a mere formality.

Grace (and just about everyone else) took that position even months before the chewed-up remains of Casey's beautiful daughter, Caylee, were found in a wooded area near the Anthony residence.

For the record, we believe that Casey Anthony killed her baby daughter, either intentionally or not.

Then, in a panic, she dumped the corpse like so much garbage in the familiar woods down the street from where she had lived for many years with her parents.

For the record, we also believe that the soon-to-be-wealthy Ms. Anthony is an extremely sick pup.

But we also know (that's know, not believe) that a jury of Casey's peers sat through a trial lasting several weeks, heard a ton of testimony, listened to the attorneys' arguments, and then rendered its unanimous decision after a relatively short deliberation.

That's the way shit works in this country, at least on paper.

For as long as we could take it last night (which wasn't long), we heard Nancy Grace trash the jurors for their lack of education (in some instances), for their obvious (in her mind) biases against the prosecution, and for generally being blundering fools who should rot in Hell with "Tot Mom."

Unbelievable.

In a media world increasingly filled with screaming "pundits" looking for a blog hit or for their 15 seconds of quasi-fame, Nancy Grace's little temper tantrum stands out as the worst of the worst.

Insixteen twenty-one, a big  celebration ofbarbourjacket took place at Plymouth Colony in what is now the state of Massachusetts.  European settlers known as the barbour  jackets were celebrating theirautumn harvest after a winter of struggle.

Other colonists held earlier  ceremonies of thanks. But the Pilgrims'three-day feast is often called the nation's first barbour  outlet Thanksgiving. PresidentAbraham Lincoln declared a national holiday in eighteen sixty-three during the Civil War.

Today families and friends  gather on the fourth Thursday in November. And, thanks to the barbour quiltedjacket United States  CensusBureau, here are some facts about where their Thanksgiving meal comes  from.

The main dish is traditionally  a turkey. About two-thirds of the nation'sturkeys are produced in Minnesota  and five other quilted  barbour jacket states. Producersare expected to raise two hundred forty-eight million birds this year, two percent more than lastyear.

Popular side dishes include  cranberries and sweet potatoes. Last year North Carolina barbour  sale grew more sweet potatoes thanany other state. Wisconsinis expected  to be the top cranberryproducer this year.

People often finish the meal  with pumpkin pie. Last year Illinois grew the most pumpkins. California, New  York, Ohioand barbour ukwere  also major pumpkin producers.

Thanksgiving is a big event,  but buying a barbour  mens traditional holiday meal canbe a struggle for the poor. So charity groups often hold food drives to collect food for barbour  ladies low-incomefamilies.

I am so glad it is not just me that sees Nancy Grace as a Bleached Blond, angry, uneducated Idiot.  I am not saying she (Casey) is innocent by no means, but I do not believe she killed the child un- intentionally.  It was not premeditated...I believe there should be a law against all the media hatred that had Casey Anthony hung before she went to trial.  Thank God the jury had sense enough to see there was no proof.I pray Casey will get the help she so dreadfully needs and becomes a person we can be more forgiving to.  Thank GOD, God does not treat people the way the media does. Judge not, lest you be judged.  Casey has her own demons to contend with. One thing that just tickles the socks off me is the summation that Jose gave.  All thru the trial, it was Jeff Ashton this and Jeff Ashton that..."he is such a brilliant lawyer and Jose Biaz has no chance against him...Jose is so inexperienced and it shows with everything he does...those are the words of ALL the media...well, I guess he showed them...what do you think of that Mr. Smirking Laughing Man Jeff Ashton? At least he is going out with  the biggest loss ever.....Florida des not nee you Mr Ashton and Georgia does not need Nancy Grace...I put her right up there with The sleazy newspaper "National Enquirer".

I have no idea who Nancy Grace is, but she sounds right to me, if not a little uncultured in her delivery.  I also have no idea who Paul Rubin is, but he sounds equally moronic in his delivery.  Is this a piece written by a journalism professional or a whiny little twenty-something know-it-all?  Please.  Don't jeer at a woman who is looking for her "fifteen [you SPELL O U T a number two words or less] seconds of quasi-fame" by giving her another minute and hyping her even more.  You just sound jealous when you do.  And cursing in an article isn't just a sign of ignorance, it's also a sign that you don't have a leg on which to stand.

Dear Nancy, can you please express a little outrage about the 5 cops on trial for civil rights infractions.  You know the infraction of murdering two, blowing a womans arm off and shooting to kill other innocents? I know they havent been convicted yet but please share your opinion.

Thank goodness we have prosecutors like Nancy Grace, a voice for the children of this country that are killed every day. could it possibly be she believes in what she is doing and has prosecuted many cases where killers went free. Like Casey. Have the people of this country lost every thread of common sense. These jurors did not do there job. They were not suppose to find the punishment, just make a decision, if they couldnt find murder, at least know that she knew and had something to do with her daughters dissapearance and find manslaughter. Keep doing the work Nancy, I appreciate what your trying to do.

Hooray, Paul Rubin. I've been thinking the exact same things. Nancy Grace is an embarrassment to Americans and our just-us system.

We should put together a class action law suit for the pain and suffering suffered at the hands of loud obnoxious bitch Nancy Grace!!!!

I enjoy victories like this, it lets you know the system works! The state had their chance to put her away for life and failed to convince a jury that it helped to select that she was a cold blooded killer. The defense was better prepared and got the job done!

Nancy Grace loves to suffer other peoples tragedies for her ratings her bank account and her lizard brain. Its a sickness and addiction to be outraged and to hype people up. Has she ever even talked about people wronfully convicted I'm not sure but I'd bet NO!

..... Has anyone been watching TV? The more they go on and on with the "shocker news" the more enflamed people get on the street. The media needs to careful with how they convey this to the public...

I agree that Nancy Grace is the most vile talking head on my idiot box. I would think that ratings would be her first priority. Just think of how many service members who have died in one of our countless wars could have been featured on her "Show" (By that I mean piece of shit) in the last three years. How many other children in the last three years have gone missing or have been murdered? Has Nancy Grace told me? Fuck no. I ask myself, "Do I hate Nancy Grace?". Hell yes I do.

The very best comment I ever heard concerning Nancy Grace was made by Joel McHale on the TV show "Talk Soup." In a comment on a story that Nancy Grace had given birth to twins, he said, "Twin what?"

Roro
Roro

I read the comment of a CNN legal commentator on the verdict. He maintained that the District Attorney, using "prosecutorial discretion" overcharged in this case, meaning he might have gotten a conviction on a lesser charge such as "negligent homicide." He went for the death penalty in a circumstantial case in which there were no witnesses, no time of death, no cause of death, and no motive. The alternate juror said in an interview that the jury briefing on the concept of "reasonable doubt," which is at the heart of our system clinched the verdict. She can never be charged again for a lesser offense due to "double jeopardy." The harpies Nancy Grace and Jane Velez-Mitchel only succeeded in inflaming the public for TV ratings numbers.

JUSTICE ... What it means is defined different by everyone. I think this is the core of the difference in opinion of everyone. No need to hate people... To many people JUSTICE means the letter of the law, and the letter of the Constitution. To others it means, "someone has to pay!" ... In the grand scheme of things, the jury decided to go by the letter of the law and not base their decision on emotion i.e. "she must pay, a little innocent is dead." What is right or wrong? The debate will never end. It is my position, that if we didn't have the letter of the law, we would not have balance of powers, and there would be abuse of powers. This is what seperates our country from the more primitive countries. If some are so passionate about how stupid this jury is, then how about providing a solution to what you feel the problem is? Do some research on ancient "civilized" societies. Rome would be a good start.

Grace is mean-spirited-bully that, if given the opportunity, would just love to throw the executioners switch herself. If she really cared about "victim's rights" then she would focus her efforts on people who have been wrongfully imprisoned or put to death.

But that's not what she's interested in.

She is the mob leader passing out the torches while searching for that special lynching tree. One day it's going to catch up to her.

And on that day...I'll be tuning in.

How come everyone is blaming the jury and nobody says shit about the prosecution in a murder case where they failed to proved that Calyee had been murdered?

I agree, the prosecutor blew this one.  Not enough focus and emphasis on the web of lies and coverup, and too much pushing an assumption about chloroform.

The media held a witch hunt and tried to convict on the air waves, just like they decide elections, people listen to the gossip, commercials, half truths, opinions and are NOT informed they think if they see it on TV or hear it on the radio or read it in a paper its fact.  Bottom line there was not enough evidence to convict and be thankful the jury followed the law.  The verdict was 100% accurate,

I am not saying she is or isn't innocent, but the media forms opinions and people ASSume they are facts, and as I always say ASSume makes an ass out of you and Nancy Grace is always making assumptions and tends to be way out there.  If she doesn't like what you say or agree with her she cuts you off.  REMEMBER your are innocent until proven guilty something everyone forgets the state did not prove there case.

Tiffany_stewart27

The proof is she is a liar and if she did not do it why lie. All the lies she told and partying she did and stores she went to and the babysitter that never existed while her child is missing. Come on now... Your baby is missing for weeks and u tell everyone she is with the babysitter and there really is no babysitter, u are definitely covering something that you did up. Stupid lies for no reason, like she worked at universal studios and had not worked there in two years. The chick is mental and needs to be put away. They should have charged her with neglect since she didnt care that her child was missing and did not report it, but partied the night away celebrating that fact that she killed her daughter. She will suffer in the long run with all the Guilt. justice my as*

You are an idiot. Plain and simple. If the prosecutor had pushed the police to solidify the evidence and find more then they might have gotten a conviction. At best it was circumstantial evidence and hearsay they used against her. Which if it was me, I'd have voted not guilty as well. It's called "reasonable doubt" for a reason. One day when you break the law, and trust me you will, you will appreciate it when it saves your ass.

The jury wasn't being pandered to during dinnertime with sensationalist opinions and vitriol. That poor dumb jury was only given facts and evidence to consider, what a stupid process.. SCREW Due process! right?... even if everyone knew CA did it, its not what you know, it's what you can PROVE. I'm glad you have no say in the administration of justice, all I see is you coming up with are lynch mob tactics to take out who you THINK did it.

kind of like the way she "helped" put the killer of a little girl in the grave right? She did everything to get in the way and look, the hate she started backfired and now two killers are free to kill again. Nancy is a stain and she is aused this action to take place. Smart yes, helping, not in the least...

I dont care what type o negative comments you may have to say about Nancy Grace. She is the ONLY one whos been reporting on Caylee's disappearance since day 1. You must be a jackass to sit here write a blog and try to insult this womans intelligence. I see why she wouldnt let you get a word in. I respect her for her hard work and dedication. something im not reading on your blog. You might as well gave Jose Baez and his defense team a high five and glass a champagne. There was no justice for Caylee. And to down talk the only person who took this story and act as if it was her own child. SMH

You realize people disappear everyday, ask yourself.. why did she follow this particular case for so long when every day, cases of varying degrees are open and shut. It seems the public only cares when the crime is sensationalized during dinner time... really sad.

Maybe she was. And maybe if she wasn't Casey would have gotten a Public Defender, a locally sequestered Jury, and gotten a 2 day trial with a guilty verdict. Along with the other hundreds of homicide cases run through that court that get zero notoriety. Trust me, Caley would have gotten justice with or without Nancy Grace

diva, let logic guide you. Follow the money. Do some research, and understand she is capitalizing to make money. Sure, she may care about the missing kids, who wouldn't, but you need to look at the way the show is run, and the un-couth, and tactless approach. If she wants to treat co-hosts and co-workers with disrespect fine with me, but when you run video in moral conflict, to enflame feelings, and to purport hatred, you garner a unhealthy following. God help if anyone pro-Nancy got wrongfully caught up in the legal system and were not able to assemble a defense. Happens all the time...

Every show in america has made money so why is it that they are bashing Nancy Grace just because she has the RIGHT opinion about the sick and twisted Casey Anthony who so obviously killed her precious little girl. That chick is sick and since she didnt get the dealth penalty I hope someone gets her on the streets when she is set free for murder. Only in America will something like this happen. SMH. You know so little about the Justice system of this great nation... So very little.  The real travesty are the hundreds that spend lifetimes in prison because of being wrongfully convicted.  We should be wailing over that, rather than the single miserable person that MAY have gotten off the hook.  You can't prove it, I can't prove it, and the prosecution cannot prove without doubt that she killed her child.  It's pretty cut and dry.  Like it or love it, it's the best justice system out there.  Unless of course you  would prefer lynch mobs, or sharia law.  Then you'd be in the same corner as Nancy "Trials are for Retards" Grace.
