Lori Klein, State Senator, Points Loaded Gun at Reporter's Chest; Idiot Move Violates Number One Gun-Safety Rule

Categories: Dumb

State Senator Lori Klein, R-Anthem, pointed a loaded gun a reporter's chest during an interview.

As every gun owner should know, the Number One rule of handling firearms is to never point a gun at anything you don't want to destroy.

Arizona State Senator Lori Klein, R-Anthem, violated that rule in a big way during a recent interview with Arizona Republic reporter Richard Ruelas.

In an article published yesterday, Ruelas describes how Klein pulled out a loaded Ruger from its case while sitting on a couch outside the Senate chamber.

"She showed off the laser sighting by pointing the red beam at the reporter's chest," Ruelas writes.

Klein then told Ruelas that the gun has no safety but he didn't need to worry because "'I just didn't have my hand on the trigger.'"

We don't begrudge Klein the right to carry a concealed gun, which nearly every non-felon can do under Arizona law.

But this is exactly the type of bad behavior that gives law-abiding firearm owners a bad name.

It's also the type of idiot move that gets people shot accidentally, which is why the NRA and other groups that teach gun safety consider it the primary gun-safety rule.

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, RawCent. c0m

I hope this fucking stupid cow has her carry permit, if not her firearms licence, REVOKED. Plus, faces charges for careless handling of a firearm. If it had been the Senator on the other side of that gun, the reporter would have been instantly arrested by the Secret Service.

While I do find the lack of character, civility, and good judgement on the part of Sen. Klein shocking I'm quite impressed at the appreciation for how egregious of an error this was on her part respectable.  Not a single nut-job has taken the time to defend this miserable excuse for an elected official and human being for the things she's done.

Hey, I thought right wing reactionaries just knew gun safety through fascist osmosis, WTF?!?

in Florida this is a crime, showing your gun to ANYONE is a crime in public even is they do ask. (why would they?) it's called aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and it carries a 10 year sentence. and who trained this lady? what cracker jack box did she get her concealed weapons permit in? so many questions

For a real yuck-fest, read the AZ Central and East Valley Tribune stories on this.

Klein is using the scattergun approach of conflicting denials. Notably-

1). She didn't do it. 2). She didn't DELIBERATELY do it. 3). Ruelas got in front of her while she was pointing her pistol so it was his fault that she did it.4). It was safe because her "hand" wasn't on the trigger.

Russell Pearce supports her unequivocally. Hopefully, she will show him her neat laser sight.

Klein then told Ruelas that the gun has no safety but he didn't need toworry because "'I just didn't have my hand on the trigger.'"

Last time I checked, it is your finger which either is or isn't on the trigger. And for what it's worth, the Ruger LCP (which has no safety and is likely what she was pointing at the reporter) has a recall notice out because they can discharge if they are dropped on a hard surface when there is a round in the chamber.

Stupid bitch. I hope somebody has the sense to take that thing away from her before she "accidentally"injures or kills someone.

OTOH, maybe she'll get likkered up and decide to clean the thing without dropping the clip and emptying the chamber. Any number of idiots have removed themselves from the gene pool this way.

I am a native to Arizona, I carry a firearm.  I am not a nut.  I believe in gun control, felons, mental patients, and people who have an active restraining order should not carry weapons.  Carrying a firearm in Arizona is a long held tradition.  A tradition based in times when the west was wild and now continued by people who value personal liberties.  This woman is an elected representative of the people of Arizona.  However, Lori Klein is just one more political figure that make the citizens of Arizona look like a bunch of raving lunatics.  I have never had incident to draw my weapon on another human.  Lori Klein you do not represent my interest.  Your moral compass is askew.  Time for a reality check.

Why would an AZ politician point a gun at a reporter's chest while in the senate chambers?  Because she wants to be the next governor.

This is a crime. It is called assault with a deadly weapon. This should be prosecuted

Ruelas needs to do his duty as a citizen and press charges.  This woman needs to be perp walked, booked,  and released from her job.  Don't let this become the new norm because the next new norm will be more bodies.  The press is saying she denies it.  I want to know what the police say.  Please explain why she is not under arrest.  We are seriously wondering.

"But this is exactly the type of bad behavior that gives law-abiding firearm owners a bad name."

Exactly, it's morons like this bitch that set any progress in getting the anti's to stop calling us (gun owners) a bunch of violent, irresponsible freaks. Thanks, you stupid twat. I really appreciate the fact that I have to start all over again with the drooling gun haters.

And who CARES if she 'didn't have her finger on the trigger'? You are taught to never point a weapon, LOADED OR UNLOADED at any target you don't intend to shoot.

Stupid bitch.

"enjoy your 30 rnd clip."

A: It's a magazine, not a clip.B: It would completely ruin the balance and portability of my pistol.

PS: It's people like who you piss off the gun owners to the point that they overcompensate by allowing jackasses like Lori Klein to be their 'advocates'. Maybe if you weren't such pricks, gun owners wouldn't be so goddamn flamboyant. It continually blows me away that NOBODY on this fucking planet seems to have figured out the concept of compromise.

So get down off your high horse, you're just as much a part of the problem, skippy...

Lori Klein has posted an "explanation" of how this incident came about. I simply don't believe it but even if I did, it would still show her as someone unfit to own or handle a firearm. It simply remains the responsibilty of anyone holding a weapon, to keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction at all times. No range officer worth his or her salt would be the least bit interested in hearing "my finger was not on the trigger" as an excuse.

RepubliNUTs are not just a pack of nut-cases. As Ray sayeth in this article, they are also "idiots".

Say for instance, if she ever pointed a gun at me, I then hath the right to take out my piece and fire in self-defense? My life would flash before me, knowing I would be in imminent danger, had she pointed the gun at me. I believe I have that right towards self-defense.

If racist fools had to take "culture sensitivity classes" to educate them, I think those very same "idiots" could benefit from taking another "gun safety classes".....you know---to educate those ignoramuses.

What a freakin MORON!!!!!!! Next thing she'll say is I didn't know it was loaded when she shoots someone OMG. These are the types of mental midgets we are electing to run our country! Then we sit back and wonder WHY this country is going to hell in a hand basket. For this bone head move she needs to lose her right to carry a concealed firearm.

I can't help but to stare longingly at that leathery mug and imagine how those lips taste after a night of heavy Virginia Slims 100s and cheap scotch. She's got "sensuality" written all over that heavily-painted mouth and it's calling my name.

The fact that Lori Klein is a known heavy drinker, previously arrested for DUI, make her actions even more frightening and questionable. There should be an investigation by the legislature but since the idiot gun nuts Gould and Pearce run things, chances of that are slim

FYI, in Arizona no permit is required to carry, concealed or otherwise. Neither is one required to purchase a firearm.

Mikey1969

Wow, that must make it tough on the gun sales industry, as well as when you go target shooting... Do you have to shoot from inside a box to avoid "showing" someone your gun?

Or are you just exaggerating? There is a difference between "showing" someone your gun and "brandishing" it. Maybe that's what you meant?

And yes, you DO ask... Joe from down the street says 'Hey, I got a new pistol yesterday.', and you say 'Really? Is it pretty nice?' In your scenario, Joe says 'Well, I can never let you see it, even at the shooting range, because CapitolP says that it is illegal, so just pretend I showed it to you, and sow 'Wow!'... After which, you picture Jim's gun in your head and emit the appropriate 'Wow!', depending on your level of excitement, which would be directly proportional to your level of imagination.

"gun ranges are not public places, that's why they're usually privately owned clubs and you have to be a member."

Apparently at the age of 41(Not until October, buddy), I'm a little more worldly than you are... Both Arizona and Utah have Municipal gun ranges (read: PUBLIC). You don't have to be a member of anything to use them, and some don't even have staff on hand. The ones that do charge a fee, but it's not some 'membership fee' covered up in a legalese loophole, it's just a fee to use the facility. We also have gun shows here where people show guns out in the public. And before you go ranting on and on about how it's on private proerty, so it's private, I dare you to go into one doing something that is illegal in public(such as nudity or public urination), and try and get out of trouble with the court using your "argument". ANd you can tell someone that you are armed, such as the friend example I used before, or a police officer who pulls you over, without getting in any trouble.

It's when you BRANDISH the weapon that it is considered illegal. Brandishing is when you expose the weapon as a threat. Even in Az and Utah you can't threaten to use your gun without risking legal issues. You can pull it and use it, but merely saying 'I'm going to shoot you' CAN get you charged, even if you were justified in the final shooting. Also, you can open carry in Florida, which is "showing" someone your gun.

Either Florida is super uptight, which is strange, considering they were pretty pioneering in the whole concealed carry thing, or you are woefully uninformed, which isn't really all that strange, and becomes less so with each post you make.

Wow, Ruger has this issue? They created the transfer bar safety something like 35 years ago, and as far I understood, it was in both autos and revolvers. That safety makes it physically impossible for this to happen... On top of that, why in the Hell would they make an auto without a safety anyway? Is this a sign that production values at Ruger are slipping?

And when did they put a hand-sized trigger on anything they made? What , is this artillery or something?

I never doubted you, Mistalee, I just didn't understand how Ruger could let this shit slip by, that's all... Personally, single action, double action, either way, a safety is a good idea.

Perhaps she could be adjudicated insane? That would relieve her of her gun rights quite effectively without all of the hoopla of a criminal trial. Dangerous to herself or others? Check!

there is a cetain percentage of the gun owning public that will do shit like this.  if the NRA etc are serious about responsability they will work to lake it impossible for people like this to get guns.  but the again they aren't that serious about safety are they? as long as gun owners allow people like this to be public advocates, the rest of us will lump you all in the irresponsible group.  enjoy your 30 rnd clip.

Now that's a good question. To add to the fervor, amid all the chaos. My question is:

Why haven't the "reporter" press criminal charges? I wonder if she bribed him not to, but who knows? Those types of wacky wing-nuts are capable of anything, even if it goes against their principles: as in "the rule of law".

Klein's error in judgement goes beyond drinking, driving at excessive speeds while drunk, and putting herself and others at risk, and then fighting the charges for two years to escape accepting the responsibility and consequences for her actions.

Let us also remember the episode where she not only was lacking in judgement, but also showed she lacks character.

I'm refering to the senate session where Klein read alould on the senate floor an unvetted letter from a person unknown to her.  The letter where a substitute teacher claimed the majority of the mexican students in one of his classes refused to do their assignment and told him all they wanted to do was grow-up to be drug and gang bangers.

And now she's pointed a loaded firearm at a live body.  How long until this woman really causes someone bodily harm?

so you don't even have to take a basic safety course? man that just seems bizarre to me for some reason. i know vermont is like that too. i know in KY you can open carry when your 18 but your not allowed to conceal carry until your 21. mostly because the law says you have to be 21 to take the CWP course. strange shit.

CapitolP
CapitolP

once again, pointing out reading focus here FLORIDA. i made no statement on AZ or Utah. your vehicle is an extension of your domain (castle doctrine) so when officer bob pulls you over your not legally required but allowed to say "officer i am a licensed firearm carrier and while reaching for my registration and proof of insurance i will be opening a compartment where my firearm is being stored" or you don't have to say anything at all you can just hand him your CWP card. and there is no such thing as a public gun range in FLORIDA. and it's not legal to open carry in florida, i have no idea who told you that. if you try it you will be arrested. happy birthday in october.

CapitolP
CapitolP

apparently at the age of 42 your reading skills have diminished let me clarify.

in public, key word being PUBLIC

gun ranges are not public places, that's why they're usually privately owned clubs and you have to be a member. your house is not a public place and neither is your property. and yes in the state of florida even telling someone your armed IN PUBLIC is against the law, hence concealment. they teach you this during your CWP class. i suggest you pay the 50$ and take the class the worst thing that could happen is you might learn something.

But a firearm has much better range and with the laser sight is more selective imagine the collateral damage of a large undirected exhalation in an area crowded with civilians.
