J-Up came up big versus the Colorado Rockies over the weekend.
Both Miguel Montero and Justin Upton justified their All-Star status and secured their place in the hearts of Valley sports fans this past weekend as the pair totaled 12 hits, all of which fueled the Arizona Diamondbacks to a series win against the Colorado Rockies.

Besides putting on a virtual hitting clinic for those in the stands at Chase Field, the duo blasted a combined 15 RBIs on Saturday and Sunday, powering the Snakes to back-to-back wins that salvaged the weekend series.

That's because the D-Backs got things off to a disappointing start on Friday night by losing to Colorado 8-4. Arizona rocketed out to a 3-0 start in the second inning after a leadoff single from Montero, a two-run homer by Gerardo Parra, and a titanic RBI triple Willie Bloomquist. They also added another run in the sixth inning via a Montero triple, only to watch the Rockies stage a comeback over the course of the game thanks to Daniel Hudson's falterings on the mound.

The starting pitcher gave up 10 hits and five runs during the loss, giving Dexter Fowler and Colorado's sluggers ample opportunity to score. Hudson earned his sixth loss of the season and upped his ERA to 3.72.

The D-Backs had far better pitching during Saturday's epic 12-3 thumping of the Rox. Josh Collmenter allowed six hits and three runs, but had plenty of support from his team. J-Up wasted no time in getting Arizona on the board, nailing a double in the first inning to score Bloomquist. Montero then followed with a double of his own to bring Chris Young and Upton home. The highlight of the game came in the sixth inning when Justin busted out a gorgeous grand slam that cleared the bases and gave his team all the runs it would need.

Both Montero and Upton also flexed their scoring muscles in support of Micah Owings during yesterday's rubber match. The D-Backs starter kept Colorado scoreless during the 7-0 win, aided by J-Up's RBI double in the third and a triple in the fifth. Montero provided a fielder's choice during the sixth inning to add another run.

The Diamondbacks get one day of much-needed rest before departing on a big road trip through California to face off against their fellow teams from the National League West. After battling the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers, the D-Backs will pay a visit to the Bay Area for a showdown with the Giants to determine the king of the hill in the division.

San Francisco and Arizona stayed apace with one another this past weekend, as the Jints won their series against the Milwaukee Brewers and maintained their four-game lead atop the NL West standings. The race for the postseason is probably going to be neck-and-neck for the rest of the season between the D-Backs and the Bay Area bombers, so it's crucial that the hometown heroes rack up as many wins as possible during the 10-day, nine-game road trip.

It kicks off on Tuesday night when the Diamondbacks head for Petco Park in San Diego. Lefty Joe Saunders (6-8, 3.82 ERA) handles the ball for the Snakes against the Padres' Dustin Moseley (6-8, 4.00). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. TV: Fox Sports Arizona. Radio: KTAR 620-AM.
