A poll conducted commissioned by Phoenix mayoral candidate Greg Stanton reveals that he leads the pack among decided voters.

Of the 400 likely Phoenix voters asked how they would cast their ballots in the August 30 mayor's race, 20 percent went with Stanton and 11 percent selected former Phoenix Councilwoman Peggy Neely.

But a majority of voters, 52 percent, remained undecided.

The poll results for the mayoral candidates:

Greg Stanton: 20 percent
Peggy Neely: 11 percent
Wes Gullett: 6 percent
Claude Mattox: 6 percent
Jennifer Wright: 3 percent
Anna Brennan: 2 percent
Other/Don't Know/No Answer: 52 percent

The poll was conducted on July 6 and July 7 by California-based national, public-opinion firm Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin, Metz. It was paid for by Stanton's camp, and Ruben Alonzo, Stanton's campaign manager, wouldn't disclose how much the poll cost.

The results have a margin of error is +/- 4.9 percent.

The firm has done polling for races across the country, including for Nevada U.S. Senator Harry Reid. In Arizona, it ran a poll for Terry Goddard's state Attorney General race and ballot initiatives such as Smoke Free Arizona.

Assuming the poll is accurate, it will be interesting to see what political strategies the Mattox and Gullett camps use to close the 5-point gap with Neely to advance to a run-off election in November.
