Morning Poll: Will Joe Arpaio Even Live Long Enough to Serve Another Term as Sheriff?
Yet the aging law dog swears he plans to run for another four-year term as sheriff -- laughably, he's also not ruled out a run for the presidency.
As a reader pointed out in the comment section of New Times' official "happy birthday" to America's self-proclaimed "toughest sheriff" blog post, this means Arpaio would be celebrating his 80th birthday on the campaign trail for a job that requires him to -- at the very least -- live for another four years.
We hate to get morbid, but come on! Whether Arpaio will even live long enough to serve out another term is a legitimate question voters should be asking.
We wouldn't sign a contract with an 80-year-old man to water our lawn for four years, let alone to run one of the largest law enforcement agencies in the country.
Will Arpaio become the Joe Paterno of the MCSO -- a confused, old recruitment tool who will occasionally shit himself in the middle of an
employer sanctions operation illegal immigrant roundup?
Or will the sheriff just one day cease to be, leaving the residents of Maricopa County in the predicament of finding a new sheriff (and paying off his legal bills)?
This post reads much better with a little cowbell. Hit play and start over.
