Morning Poll: Were Pima County SWAT Officers Justified in Shooting at Ex-Marine -- 71 Times

• Actually, they do it every day.  This makes people feel "safe", don't you know?

• Yeah, but they don't feel nearly as baddass if they don't destroy a house, kill a dog, and murder a few people.  I feel safer already.

• Let's see how rational you are when 30 people storm your house at some ungodly hour.  I'm really interested in seeing the demonstration.

• And if a bunch of people bust into your house at o-dark-thirty, screaming at you, you will, of course, react rationally?

• It doesn't matter if it was "justified" by the circumstances.  The circumstances should never have arised.  No one, and I mean NO F*^&ING ONE should be dying over a damned baggie of weed.  For it to happen puts us right along with slime molds as a society.

• Wow, way to go guys.  You risked your lives and killed someone for an entire bag of marijuana.  I'm sure that baggie of dope was FAR more dangerous than, you know, killing someone. Here's the deal.  "We need no-knock warrants so we catch them before they flush the drugs!"  Perhaps you should have someone lock stock and barrel before you barge into their house with weapons firing.  Have you ever thought of that?  I.e. if you don't have overwhelming evidence, then you shouldn't be slamming into someone's house, and if you do have such evidence, you don't need to.  In other words, act like a f*&^ing civilized police force and knock, you twits. There are reasons that the military (which you so pretend to) DO NOT barge into people's houses weapons blazing in the middle east.  The reason is that people end up dead.  Permanently, unchangeably, irrevocably, dead.  Not just the people you think of as the "bad guys".  Your friends, your buddies, end up getting bullets in them.  This is not a god-damned video game. Whether the person accused (and dead... as in he's in a god-damned casket dead) did it or not, was it worth it?  Was it really worth it to KILL someone over some piss-ant baggie of pot?  The f&%^ing drug runners think so, but they are evil evil people. WAS IT WORTH IT TO YOU? So get a F&%^&ING clue and stop doing this INSANE no-knock warrant crap.  People die.  Your friends die.  For some bloody weed?  Do you REALLY feel people need to die for that?

• The SWAT team reminds me of when the Nazis were busting down doors and killing Jews.  What will the Nazis do next?  I am actually scared of my government.

• The government considers ALL OF US as disposable taxpayers.  I now think the wrong side won in 1776.  What a sad sad day.

• 90% of SWAT raids could have been handled, by an officer knocking on the door, and telling the suspect they had a warrant. What would you do if mask med dressed in black broke into your home?

• I believe we can get used to this,this is just one case of many arising across America and the globe as a whole.It is time to rein in the federal government and take a look at our present police and state patrols.It seems we are employing people who do not have good self control or may have anger issues.We should be more responsible in who we allow to protect our rights.

• I guess you are right given your scenario.  But if they  wake you out of a dead sleep by busting open your front door and then start firing at you because you picked up a gun to defend your family against a home invasion--it is much more like an ambush and murder.

• This could be us next! @ 6am this man thought someone was breaking in his house. A man's house is his castle and he will defend it. Why not pull him over on the way to work to avoid confrontation.

• Remember when the police didn't use a SWAT team to apprehend someone? How fucking hard is it to wait for the guy to walk outside and get in his car AND THEN ARREST HIM? Fucking police state of America will get us all before too long.

•  Why does the media has to say this guy was an EX-Marine or Former Marine?  I am sure the Marine Corps and all othe Marines would claim the dirt bag one of their own.

• The story from the cops has changed  three or four times now.  Thats because the cops are PAID PROFESSIONAL LIARS.  I sure hope they get sued for MURDER.  I see no difference between these cops and the taliban, and hope all the cops involved in this murder die in a fire. 

• If someone had an AR-15 pointed at you, how many times would you pull the trigger? I was a medic in Vietnam and I saw firsthand the unbelievable amount of damage which a person can live through.

• What makes you think that is what happened in this case? Even the Fed interviewed said basically that the first guy in the door tripped, stumbled and dropped to his knees and then his gun-happy buddies all lost their shit.

• The video does not show them doing that.It shows them breaking down the door after one shout of police.He thought he was being broke into and was trying to protect his family the polic murdered him

• The man was in his own home.There was no reason for them to break down the door and enter knowing there were innocent people inside over what drugs?It would've been much easier to have grabbed him outside searched the home and found they had the wrong place rahterh than traumatize the family kill someone and find nothing.America is becoming a police state and if this could ahppen to him it could happen to any of us.

• James, your sound-bite of this case sucks it, just a little. It was an investigation of several individuals that finally netted the paltry bag of weed. NOTHING illegal was found in the victim's possession or in his residence.  Having shot this man 71 times, the SWAT team kept EMS at bay for an hour, guaranteeing that this man would bleed out and die on the floor in front of his wife and child. The cops initially lied about the incident, saying that Guerena fired on them and that they had no choice. But a police report let the cat out of the bag. Guerena, who apparently thought the SWAT team's B&E was a home invasion, did not take his safety off, holding fire until he could identify the intruders. Too bad the SWAT cops didn't exercise similar restraint.

• When the police repeatedly tell you to drop your weapon (assault rifle) and instead, you point the muzzle at them, you can expect the worst.

• NO! They WERE NOT justified!! They were especially not justified in denying the medics entry to give him whatever help they could, thereby guaranteeing that he would die. Oh, and there is no such thing as an ex-marine. SEMPER FI

• While I cannot determine whether or not his shooting was justified, as I wasn't there and only know what the media tells me; I can say if you can't subdue an individual in two shots... you're fucking inept. 71 shots.. what the hell, was this the O.K. Corral? Were they finally excited they got to shoot their penis replacements? Its wasteful idiots like this that make me wonder what type of rejects do we have staffing our police forces, college drop outs and people who peaked in high school I'm sure.
