Kathryn Elizabeth Hetrick, a teenage drunk driver responsible for the death of local hip-hop artist Abay Lattin last year, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Maricopa County Superior Court.

The 18-year-old former Arizona State University student also pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault in connection with the fatal car accident last September in Tempe that killed Lattin (who performed with the group Silver Medallion under the stage name of Carnegie).

And to one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the accident as a part of a plea agreement with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office that dismissed a second aggravated-assault charge.

Hetrick was leaving an early-morning party at the Quadrangles apartment complex near ASU when she plowed her Ford Expedition into the sedan carrying Lattin and another hip-hop artist. She was reportedly intoxicated when questioned by Tempe Police officials.

Hetrick was turned over to Maricopa County Sheriff's Office afterward and is currently cooling her heels in custody while awaiting sentencing on July 15.

According to Jerry Cobb, spokesman for the County Attorney's Office, she is facing up to eight years for the aggravated assault charge and 12.5 years for the manslaughter charge.

Friends and collaborators of Lattin declined to comment on the news of Hetrick's conviction yesterday.

Kathryn is a beautiful young lady inside and out! There is a reason they are called accidents.. We all make mistakes, but one certainly doesnt need to be judged by you or anyone else that isnt going through this with either of the families.  Kathryn is doing what she knows is right and serving her time. Nobody wins in these kind of things. It sad and a tragedy for both sides. People make mistakes every day of life, but God gave man something called FORGIVENESS! And only God can judge her or anyone else. Instead of bashing and trash talking, try praying for the families, Im sure they both could use it.. Just saying that is definitely more productive and useful than hate and ugly. My heart <3 goes out to all involved.. May you feel the Lords presence daily and draw strength from his LOVE!!

This is Suma Lattin, Abay "Carnegie" Lattin's younger sister. It would be more than appreciated if people like "L.V" do NOT speak upon our parents. You have no idea what you are talking about and you never will, your statements are not true and in the one interview my parents did for a news broadcast what you've stated has NEVER been said. This isn't an argument and its not a forum for anyone to be bashed, you have no idea what your talking about and I'm not sure why you would even fix your fingers or even build up the courage to speak on what happened to my brother or my parents! And as a family we've also never been contacted by the Phoenix New Times.

sorry for your loss.  People don't speak especially when uneducated on a topic and when the even touches people more than most of us will be able to understand.  Keeping you and your family in our thoughts.

First of all my brothers name is Abay Lattin, do not call him "hip hop guy" ever again and my parents have never said either of these things. You have no idea what or who you're talking about!

Unfortunately that "mistake" was entirely preventable, she didn't have to drink underage, much less get into a car and drive. I don't know about you, but my mistakes don't result with dead bodies. Now while she may not be a bad person, she broke a law that was in place to prevent such "mistakes" and if her being in prison will cause others to consider the consequences, then its a wonderful thing she is there. And it doesn't matter if the parents didn't want to press charges, more often than not the state will, and has full rights to do so.

that is not what we said at all-not at all...

That could happen to anyone, so don't sit here and try to hold yourself up so high just because you haven't made a mistake that resulted in "dead bodies". You sound super ignorant and judgemental. Who are you to judge another person's mistakes?

Totally agree with you, D. Way to have her back. Katie isn't a bad person and how dare you people bash her when you don't know her.
