You never know who's a good cop (most are) and who's bad (enough are to be cautious.) Treat them all with courtesy and respect, but ALWAYS decline to be interviewed, ALWAYS decline to give consent FOR ANYTHING.

If you are not allowed to leave, ask them to explain why you are under arrest, and for what? Ask if you can leave if you are not under arrest. Never let them into your trunk or car. Never.

• Good for you, Darnell.  There is absolutely no reason to talk to the cops, ever.  Nothing you say can help - it's considered hearsay and not admissible - and "anything you say can and will be used against you."  Same applies here.  Screw them.  They either get a warrant, or let you go about your business.   The only thing Dockett could have done is not drive while black.

• In 2001 My INS ex, her Bored-Her Patrol Boyfriend, DPS and MCSO illegally searched my car. I don't have Darnell Dockett Millions to sue so they cuffed and locked me in the back of a MCSO cruiser with the windows up, a criminal offense if done to an animal or child; fair play when detaining a DWB motorist. The boyfriend pulled a gun on me in the process, and the four police agencies got together and cooked up a story of how these heavily armed and backed up officers were threatened by a unarmed guy who was just picking up his kid for the weekend. Glad but sad to see that I am not the only victim of Arizona Law Enforcement profiling.

• I agree with Darnell on this issue. I was wrongfully arrested in 2006 for a crime I didn't commit and the fucking cops lied on the report, it was a great piece of fiction. Also in 2008, my wife was arrested by Coolidge Police for a DUI that never even occurred because she never started the car, never moved the car and never left the parking lot. When I got to her location the car was cold. When we got the report the Coolidge PD said she was speeding 55 in a 35, failing to stop at a stop sign and DUI. So yeah the cops lie alot.

• Social media hasn't encouraged Mr. Dockett to improve his professional image, I'm afraid. Someone posted that cops don't allow cops to search without a warrant. Very true. I wouldn't let a cop search my car and I have no contraband of any sort in any of my vehicles. It's just one of those things that when a cop has probable cause, they don't have to ask to search, if contraband is in plain sight, or a K9 has alerted on the smell of drugs or explosives. If asked, "Do you mind if I take a look inside your car?", my answer would be "Yes, I do mind. Please feel free to obtain a search warrant if you like to look inside my car, and bring a video camera with you to record the search, please".

• Look at every officer who has ever had legal trouble, guilty or not they will not do or say anything without an attorney present.  Darnell was well within his rights to deny a search of his vehicle.

• Because they can plant something or lie on their police report. I have had the police outright lie on police reports on two different occasions, so I know it happens. Fortunately my paralegal college courses paid off and I found the law that stated my actions were perfectly legal. I also do not have anything to hide but why invite problems into your life because of over zealous cops that do not know the law as well as they think they do. I also read a report that had evidence that police agencies do not hire police recruits with IQs that were too high, the report stating that a 130 IQ would disqualify one from police service. Sad to know that with my 140 IQ that I am smarter than the cops and add to that my streetwise knowledge that I really have them trumped when it comes to thinking intelligently.
