Dallas Escobedo on cusp on taking Sun Devils to national crown
Just last Friday night, the Florida Gators were poised to post a come-from-behind victory over the top-ranked ASU Sun Devils.

Alas, the Devils pulled their own comeback and stole a 6-5 victory on their way to the championship round of the NCAA College World Series in Oklahoma City.

The Gators gnawed their way back into the mix, winning four games in a row over the weekend to earn a spot against ASU in the best-of-three championship series, which started last night on ESPN-2.

Game One, however, was a laugher, an embarrassment to the senior-laden Florida team.

The Devils struck early and often, on their way to a 14-4 shellacking of their strong-hitting foes, with everyone in the lineup contributing at one point or another. We love junior shortstop Katelyn Boyd -- her play in the hole early in the game was big-league all the way

It was ugly, period.

The only good things for Florida were the three runs they scored off Escobedo in the last inning, which may set them up for a better showing in tomorrow's do-or-die game -- again on ESPN2 starting at 5 p.m.

If ASU wins that one, it would mark the team's second national championship in four weeks under head coach Clint Myers. If the Gators steal one tomorrow, the one for all the marbles (thank you Mr. Cliche) would be Wednesday night.
