Morning Poll: Is County Supervisor Fulton Brock Capable of Doing His Job With Family's Sex Scandal Hanging Over His Head?

fultonbrockhed.jpg
Fulton Brock came out of hiding yesterday -- and refused to answer reporters' questions.
For the first time since his wife's arrest for having a three-year sexual relationship with a teenage boy, Maricopa County Supervisor Fulton Brock made a public appearance yesterday. It didn't go well for the county supervisor.

Following a speech with his pal, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, to recovering drug addicts at one of Arpaio's jails, Brock faced a gaggle of reporters who had one thing on their mind: his family's sex scandal, about which he refuses to answer questions -- particularly, questions about when he became aware of the relationship between his wife and the teenage boy whom she was molesting.

"I can only comment on government-related things today. Im not gonna respond to anything relative to my family or personal matters," Brock told reporters.

Newsflash: when you're wife is in prison for molesting the same teenage boy your daughter is accused of molesting -- and it appears that you knew about it while it was going on -- nobody is going to care about "government-related things," and that's not going to change until the
public has answers.

Brock's question-dodging came on the same day news broke that a month before his wife's arrest, he sought former County Attorney Rick Romley's help in finding a defense lawyer who specializes in cases of sexual abuse of a minor.

Read about that -- and other signals Brock knew of the abuse of the boy as early as a year before his wife's arrest -- here.

Brock has refused several invitations to tell his side of the story to New Times and other publications -- and until yesterday, had kept a very low-profile.

Until Brock opens up to the media, every time he makes a public appearance he's going to face questions about his circus of a personal life -- regardless of whether he wants to answer them.

The only way for the county supervisor to avoid looking deceptive whenever he appears in public and reporters are there is to stay out of the public eye -- which isn't the best idea considering he's a public official.

In our humble opinion, until Brock breaks his silence about his family's sex scandal, he's not going to be able to do the job taxpayers pay him to do very well if he's constantly dodging questions or holed up in his house or office.

But we want to know what you think: is Brock capable of doing his job while refusing to answer questions about his role in his family's sex scandal?

Considering what the Sheriff's Office has been doing the past few years, I'm not even sure I know what the Board does...they certainly haven't been providing any significant oversight.

For all the lives that have been destroyed in Maricopa County under Brock's leadership, as he looked the other way at arpaio, hendershott, andrew thomas, lisa aubuchon, rachel alexander, fox, black, sousa, and on and on, and the dark world you helped create for so many people, it was all so unnecessary -- the people cried out for help, you ignored them and now the dark world of Arizona's prison system has sucked your family and lives into the bottomless sink hole. When will real leadership ever emerge in Arizona that considers the people and how their actions help or destroy society? Mr. Brock, It's time to resign.

Actually, there's no way he can explain this away; so option three should simply be "resign."

This sure summarizes what the people of Maricopa County have been put through with NO accountability for any of these abusers of power. The GOP needs to clean house also. What kind of party are they anyway? They've controlled Arizona for decades and have no one to blame but themselves -- it's certainly isn't the "illegal" immigrants you all have exploited for your financial gain. Next prison building state for even more $$'s. Educators where are you on this one? This is where your $$'s are going...

I don't like the third poll option, but I did choose it.

There should be no "or" in this case. The man needs to step down.

Of course he isn't going to admit anything, but that is his constitutionally protected right.

He of course will dodge all the attention related to his ex wife molestation case. Im sure his attorneys have advised him to do just that.

But he has an election coming up shortly. He can keep quiet all he wants but watch the attention he's going to get at election time. I'm sure there will be challengers and hopefully a good one.

He will most likely lose his seat as more of this unfolds around election. It appears he knew of this long before. Almost a year prior he knew when it was brought out then.

He didn't do it but he knew and did nothing obviously to seek help for his wife and daughter.

Not a great leader in my opinion.

the church should also be called into account -- don't they control the state, the legislature and the courts?

The buddy of this paranoid law and order Joe, Fulton Brock (or isn't he really Fulton Brady? As in Mr. Brady?) is getting pestered these days isn't he? Oh well, he has the LDS on his side. I'm an atheist so I have to follow the laws to a t. No church to hide my fat behind in.

It is not a job that takes any real skill, attention or talent to do. Look how long Mary rose Wilcox has been occupying her seat.

I still remember Ms. Mary Rose having her "seat" occupied by a .38 caliber bullet.

It was a great day for Phoenix.
