• FWIW, Haagen dasz has downsized its "pint" to 14 ounces.  Which is likely what the condemned man ate. And that would be 14 fluid ounces, not necessarily anything near a pound. Ice cream tends to have a lot of air incorporated, up to 50 percent of its volume with some brands. And so what? It's not like the guy had to worry about his figure, or his cholesterol.

• According to various websites, a normal serving size of ice cream is a 1/2 cup or 125 grams or 4.356 ounces. Is 3 times the normal size extra large or excessive... depends on the person. I know at any restaurant I have ever ordered dessert in, a 1/2 a cup would be normal, a full cup would be large, so what would 1.5-2 cups rate? If not ordering ice cream as a dessert... the sky would seem to be the limit on serving size since one can order however many scoops one desires. Considering the person this whole exchange concerns had consumed a full chimichanga and double cheeseburger with the works and fries... I know I would be hard pressed to down 14 ozs of ice cream on top of that meal... it could be done as the stomach can stretch quite a few times its normal size but I know I would feel considerably ill eating all that. But I do agree the articles author confused the issue.

• You seem to miss the point... the original poster made the mistakeof confusing dry ounce measurement with fluid ounce measurement. I pointed out they were two different forms of measurement, which is fact. I have said nothing about 14 ozs of anything flattening anyone... a red herring on your part. Each and every human is different and the amount that it would take to make one feel like they have a full stomach is different for each individual. Also you do not take into consideration that  ice cream, in most cases is a dessert that is consumed after a full meal, and I put forth my opinion that 14 ozs of dessert is quite a bit. Perhaps I should have qualified it as being considerably large after a full meal but Ifigured this was obvious. Another point is that the original poster was comparing solid food to liquidfood... apples and oranges. Liquid food moves through the stomach fasterthan solid food because it take less time to break down. Thus the reason it is easier to drink 29 ounces of beer, which is released from the body as urine in a short time, allowing one to drink more quickly while a 29 oz steaktakes time to break down and move through the digestive tract. If you would stop with the logical fallacies, such as arguing against points I havenot made and a ad hominem statement... but if you did that you wouldn't have anything to argue. To make it simple for you... the original poster made the mistake of confusing dry weight  and fluid measurements, which I pointed out. My comment about the educational system was in regard to this posters mistake. I then pointed out that solid and liquid foods are digested at different rates. You confuse my original statement with arguments you have made upin your head as evidenced by your statement of attributing to me making anypoint about anything flattening anyone of any size. Bad debating techniqueand worse that you appear to be putting forth that dry ounces and fluid ounces are interchangeable when they are not, the reason being they are two differentforms of measurement (a FACT), which has been my point all along. Also, whatever fetishes I may or may not have are not applicable to thisexchange... just an ad hominem attempt to discredit my points... a sign ofa weak argument and debater. All it seems you are doing here is promoting ignorance and confusion regarding what the science of measurement is. Your point getting lost in your technique and has not refuted my point that dry ounces and fluid ounces are two different forms of measurement.  Whether it is an amount that would fill someone up is subjective and depends on the biology of the person in question as well as if they are eating the dessert post-meal.

• Heh, fluid ounces are not equivalent to dry weight ounces in all cases as it depends on the density of the fluid. You are supporting ignorance by saying they do. Also I imagine that fluids move through the stomach at a much faster rate than solids. I know from personal experience that it is much easier to drink two pints of beer weighing 29 ounces than it is to eat a 29 ounce steak.the simple fact is that dry weight ounces are a different form of measurement than fluid ounces. One is by weight and one is by volume... to say otherwise promotes ignorance. Evidence that you were not taught much about logic, facts, and measurements in school. A quick perusal of google shows that your arguement is a common misperception.

• Just for the record, a gallon of water weighs 8 pounds or so, so a quart is two pounds, and a pint is about a pound. So a pint of liquid weighs about a pound. IN other words, a pound of ice cream(in weight) is not really that much. Even MORE evidence of the sorry us educational system, I guess... One more time, I took the volume(liquid ounces) and gave it a ROUGH weight equivalent(One gallon of water(liquid measurement) weighs about 8 pounds(dry measurement).). I'll type slower if you need me to. Yes, there are going to be different results based on the densities of the liquids involved, but this gives an approximation, Tell you what, next time I'm at the grocery store, I'll weigh a pint of ice cream and let you know what it turns out to be. 14 ounces of ice cream in volume isn't going to be all that much, but if it gives you a whopping chubby to think that 14 ounces of ice cream would flatten even the biggest human being, I say more power to you, everyone has their own fetish, I guess. OK, first let's lay the blame where it belongs in the first place: James King. He's the one that brought the 'Almost a pound' statement to the party to begin with. I merely pointed out that a rough approximation of liquid WOULD have a pint of liquid be around a pound. A pint of ice cream isn't that much, but it sure sounds shocking when you want to sensationalize a story and suddenly make the liquid a pound, instead of a pint. That's the only place I was going with this. Yes dry weights and liquid measure are two different things, but as I stated before, a pint of water would be close to a pound in weight (liquid things have weight, BTW) anyway, so attacking the first person really wasn't necessary, like I said, he didn't introduce the confusion between liquid measure and dry measure, that would be the writer of the actual article. So once again, the ice cream would be measured in volume, not actual weight, and 14 oz of ice cream is not that much.

• 14 oz of something is a lot? A regular can of soda is 12 oz. A pint of beer is 16oz. Two cups of water is 16oz. Nobody is going to miss Donald, he was a worthless piece of human flesh, it's just a shame that putting him in the ground consumed so much time and money.
