Something is wrong with this story. I'm pretty sure the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico are on the same island. Puerto Ricans are considered U.S. Citizens regards to travel and work in the U.S. (as in no passport required). Why would a Dominican Republican pay $7,000.00 to be smuggled into the U.S. when all they have to do is cross the border into Puerto Rico, claim they are a citizen there and then fly to the U.S. for $400.00?

These anti "illegal" immigrant bigots are motivated by fear and hate - that's why their brains are on auto-pilot. They can't see the reality of the complicated immigration system the U.S. has. EP, the Dominican Republic shares an island with Haiti, Puerto Rico is separate, as you said Puerto Rico is a territory of the US so it's citizens are US citizens also, but like in the continental US when you fly from state to state all you need is a valid government issued id, so a Dominican sneaking into PR will need an ID to fly to the US.

Birthright citizenship? this will never happen, its is a Constitutional Right that every person born within the United States will be a United States Citizen period, states do not have the legal right to regulate immigration and do not have the authority to ignore Federal Law, the Civil War settled that argument. BTW have you ever heard of a soup kitchen, or shelter, every city in the US has at least one of each, the kicker is they won't take people that are drugged or drunk for obvious medical reasons, people working there are often volunteers and they dont have any medical training to handle an emergency, or if the person becomes violent they dont have staff to handle dangerous situations, so if a homeless whats a hot meal and a roof over his/her head all they have to do is clean up, stop drinking or doing drugs and they will be accepted anywhere. Also a lot of those shelters are part of church programs that are great for offering people part time jobs or some kind of training in something, we trully live in the greatest country in the world.

We dont know what poverty is in this country, what we call poverty here is a good living in other parts of the world. According to US Government poverty level in the US is a yearly income of $22,350 for a family of four, some people of certain African countries for example make less then $10 a month per family, thats less than $120 a year, how is that for poverty?
