Connecticut Legislature Approves Bill to Charge Undocumented Students In-State Tuition

America is a country divided on education for children of illegal immigrants.
Connecticut will become the 13th state to charge undocumented students in-state tuition at public colleges and universities.

Their senate passed a bill yesterday to that effect, which the governor has said he will sign, in stark contrast to Arizona education policies.

Proposition 300, a 2006 law mandating that anyone without legal status must pay out-of-state rates in Sand Land, has been wildly successful at forcing undocumented students to drop out of college.

We've been covering the controversy over Maricopa Community Colleges' recent tuition hike aimed at stamping undocumented students out of community colleges, as well as the Democratic Party's national "push" to pass the DREAM Act.

Several states have responded to Congress' failure to pass the DREAM Act last fall with their own measures allowing undocumented students to pay in-state tuition. Maryland and Connecticut recently succeeded; Colorado's bill failed a few weeks ago.

It isn't only liberal states that allow undocumented students to attend college while paying in-state tuition.

Connecticut joins Maryland, New York, Wisconsin, California and Illinois on the Blue side of the aisle while Texas, New Mexico, Utah, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Kansas are Red states providing that opportunity.

So in a Rhode Island resident who drives over the border to Connecticut to go to UCONN has to pay out of state tuition, but someone who has no documentation that they are a US citizen can pay instate tuition?  And there are people who think this is a good idea?

In California, the majority of the students who use the application to apply for in-state tuition are the out-of-state American citizens who happened to go to high school in California. The law says that you must graduate from a CA high school and have attended for 3 years. This applies to some out-of-state residents, so their numbers are much higher than the undocumented students.

It makes sense... Keep 'em dumb, and it's much easier to pigeon-hole them into the stereotypes that the Right loves so well...

I don't get all the hubbub about this.  In state tuition is for those who have established their legal permanent residency in that state.  If you cannot establish that residency, why are persons allowed to pay the lower rate?

It's hard to tell what you like or don't like.   Are these editorials, opinion pieces or dis-informational news?    It looks like you guys run a propoganda mill and promote confusion and hate rather than clarify the situation.   When was the last time that any kind of media just reported the news in an unbiased manner?    Before some of the people who comment in this forum were born.    That's why some think it's normal instead of what it is...which is promoting one side over another.   That's something the news should never do, seeing how they have the power to influence control over the masses.   1984 is here forever.

Good for Connecticut!! It seems to me that the criminal illegals are finally getting it. They either pay more money towards educating their sorry, useless, brown asses or they face being an uneducated hick like Bobby.....

Now, if Connecticut wold follow the ways of Arizona and Georgia in terms of cracking down on the criminal illegals, then life would be better......

well i completly disagree. Not all are criminals.Criminals are those who use the money that they recieve from the state to support their needs, those people out there who dont have a job, money and no life.. those people that cary their S.S card around without even using it! the ones who havent even finished high school! the ones committing crimes! The ones that dont contribute to the country! those are the real criminals in this country!
