Congressman Ben Quayle Takes a Beating From Valley Seniors at Anthem Town Hall *VIDEO*

Congressman Ben Quayle really took it on the chin at a town hall meeting in Anthem last night.

Congressman Ben Quayle held a town hall meeting in Anthem last night. It didn't go well for the young congressman -- and the laughter of his constituents after he tried to explain government subsidies for oil companies was caught on film.

Constituents apparently aren't thrilled with Quayle's support of proposed cuts to Medicare -- specifically cuts to the pro-choice organization Planned Parenthood (Quayle is pro-life) -- and they wanted to know why these cuts needed to be made while billions of dollars of government money is being spent to make oil companies richer.

Quayle responded by saying the subsidies were just tax deductions that were not specific to the oil industry, but to all industries -- which prompted rage-filled laughter from the crowd.

Serious  thats the headline you went with.... Youre an idiot...  He gave a plausible answer to  a serious question...  How is that taking a beating????

I was there and what I left with is that Ben Quayle is an empty suit who can only recite the Republican talking points, uses statistics and bar graphs to deceive the public and generally has no answers to our complex problems.

Laura, during the campaign process I used to post, "Ben who? Ben why?". Some thirty something kid of a former vice president decided to run for a legislative office. The same kid who hadn't bothered to vote in his growing years as an adult, while his moral compass was so out of skew he couldn't find his way home.

Yes, he is an empty suit, simply regurgitating what is programmed into him by his father and other narcissistic Republicans. He is just another of the may neophytes who care only about themselves and how good they look when they pass a hallway mirror.

I don't care for Ben Quayle.

He is starting to show his true colors.

His political compass is so broken that he can't even find the Medicare recipients in a room full of senior citizens...

Drove to Anthem to see BQ last night, so I can report that the microphone did not pick up all the laughter, some of which did reflect some rage.  Even more rage was apparant when veterans challenged him to acknowledge that water boarding, as defined in the Geneva Conventions (and carried out by the Dubya administration,) is torture and Ben repeatedly dodged into a defense of "enhanced interrogations".  Clearly this is another mild mannered and malleable munchkin who will follow the orders of his moneyed masters.

Thanks, Hells Angels, for the invite, though I'm afraid I'm a tad too old, and too married, to really take advantage of the offer.  Where I come from (just moved here a few years ago,) Barbeque is abbreviated "BBQ".  My use of BQ was my ignorant effort at abbreviating Dan Quayle's Bouncing Baby Boy Ben.  I used to have a similar problem with people who abbreviated George W. Bush as "GWB".  Where I come from the GWB is a bridge.

Yes there is. The American spirit can't sleep forever. Sooner or later, it'll wake up, and Americans will mobilize to put things right. It won't happen until things get much worse though - being Americans, we don't really care about anything until we are personally affected by it.

"Call on God but row away from the Rocks" makes sense to me, "we really have no power at all" does not.  Are you saying, for instance, that we should do nothing about human contributions to the global climate change process just because we won't live long enough to profit by it.  Good works are not for ourselves, they are for the preservation of the species - for our children and their children.  We thank you for your service, and we owe you both respect and help when needed,  but getting shot does not absolve you of any responsibility to the rest of the world. We're all in this together.we really have no power at all" does not. Call on God but row away from the Rocks. Humans can not solve mother earth and her problems. this earth will all be destroyed some way sooner or later and we can do nothing about it. we really have no power at all, we just like to think we do. you me and the rest of us will all be dead and gone from this earth in less than 100 years. what then? are you ready? get your salvation in line while you can is my advice.

·         I have a theory about the GOP/TEA PARTY voucher health care proposal. ; IMO this is an example of GOP/Tea Party death panels. What they do is make health care impossible to get for middle class and poor people. So if they develop conditions that most seniors acquire they die without affordable health care. Thus reducing the amount paid via social security. What that leaves is a nation of privileged people – you know the top 2%. I’m a Republican cancer survivor with diabetes, what do you think my chances are of getting affordable health care via private insurance companies?

His "we do this for everybody" defense is hardly a good reason. What was it your mom used to say... "If everyone else was jumping off a cliff, would you do it, too?" The fact is we give way too much money to the oil companies, especially in light of our nation's current economic situation. For Quayle to excuse this as business as usual is tone-deafness.

"Maybe we should reform the tax code" is Washingtonian double speak for "Maybe if I say something like this you will forget about it and stop asking." He sure doesn't sound like someone who is "killing hell" out of Washington, he sounds like someone burrowing in comfortably.

Gee, I didn't really hear the laughter, maybe a few who just didn't understand that what he was saying was in fact true.

Walter Concrete

Gee RC, I didn't hear one thing that was true because Benny boy is incapable of telling the truth.  Let's see...give more tax breaks (subsidies) to oil companies.  They aren't American companies, they're international companies.  They should be taxed to the max and if they don't like it then they can leave and American companies can take over if there are any left.  Research and development is their problem. It's the cost of doing business.  Answer this RC, why do these companies sell our oil in the international market instead of providing it to the American people?   We basically allow them to take the oil for free and then we buy our oil from them and then they determine the price of gas because the price of gas is not determined by the price of oil.    Check it against the oil per barrel prices on the market.  Protect the rich, make the poor more poor and kill off everyone in between.    Why not give more companies tax breaks if they move our jobs overseas and then not tax their profits when they bring their blood money back here?  That way we have no jobs and they create and promote slavery in other countries.   That drives down the wages here.    Good move.

Ute
Ute

I've watched gas prices all my life and there was never a noticeable correlation between barrel oil prices and pump prices.  I live in Arizona, if I gas up in Central Phoenix and then again in Tucson, right now there can be a 50cent lower price in Tucson.  If you gas up right off a Fwy or Hwy, gas can be 30cents lower if you drive two miles in.  On one corner, the gas stations can have their own little gas war.  I concluded that the gas station owners, franchises, locations do affect our over all prices at the pump.  In the 70's, they would entice you with Libby glassware all the way to British tea set pieces. Is it me, or has anyone else noted that people that look like and sound like they are from the middle east, the orient and other countries run most of the Circle K's, 7-11s, etc.?  Even the people from Africa and the Slovenias, brought here for political asylum, are infringing on the first group.  That's just scratching the surface!Tell me, do we fight it or throw our gloves in so we can live in peace in our own country, WHERE MOST OF THE LAND AND BUSINESS IS OWNED OR LEASED BY FOREIGNERS that can't even speak or understand English.  I am a foreigner whose parents did immigration to the letter of the law; that's not even heard of anymore. One thing I do have to say, is that I'd rather have Mexicans immigrate by law, with a trade or something to help their new/old country, than all these other questionables that laugh at us in our face in their language.  The American Indians hate us, the illegal immigrants hate us, not to mention, most of the middle Easterners.

I attended the town hall in Anthem.  To reiterate what I said in my previous comment.  Most of what the congressman said at the town hall was untrue.  He mainly kept to the Republican script and talking points when he answered questions.  Hopefully, he and the Republican congress will realize the "People Sleep NO More"!!!  ost of what the congressman said at the town hall was untrue.  He mainly kept to the Republican script and talking points when he answered questions.  Hopefully, he and the Republican congress will realize the "People Sleep NO More"!!!

Yes, and this is just another reason(among a wide array of them) why you shouldn't vote for a Republican. Doing so, will surely end your life-bloods: SSI/Medicare. I wouldn't care if you are a "CONservative" or not, but that's the main gist of their dilemma.

RC,Whether you heard it or not, there were several people who laughed.  It did not sound rage-filled, though.  However, there is no indication that the laughers also agreed with the questioner re: Planned Parenthood, etc.

More importantly, though, RC, you - and Rep. Quayle - are incorrect. There are plenty of subsidies and tax breaks afforded to oil and gas producers.  Even the Heritage Foundation disagrees with you: http://bit.ly/jcvWql
