Cinco De Mayo is Manana -- So Don't Drive Drunk in Tempe (Hint, Hint: Especially Between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m.)

​The nice part about "holidays" like St. Patrick's Day, New Year's Eve, and Cinco De Mayo is that police literally tell you they are going out of their way to arrest drunk drivers. They tell you when, for the most part where, and advise that, to avoid getting a DUI, people not drive drunk. Yet, idiots do it every single time one of these amateur drinking holidays rolls around.

Tomorrow is Cinco De Mayo and the Tempe Police Department has issued a warning to anyone who might consider getting loaded and then attempt to drive a car: Don't do it.

From 8 p.m. tomorrow until 4 a.m. Friday, in cooperation with Governor Glug-Glug's Office of Highway Safety's "drive hammered, get nailed" initiative, the Tempe Police Department will be hosting a DUI task force.

Because of Arizona's large Mexican population, Cinco De Mayo is "one of the biggest drinking days of the year," according to the Phoenix DUI Blog, and with that comes a big payday for Valley DUI lawyers.

Last year on Cinco De Mayo, a similar Valley-wide task force busted more than 170 drunk drivers.

Arizona's DUI laws are some of the toughest in the country, and can include mandatory jail time, thousands of dollars in fines, lawyer and court fees, suspension of driver's licenses,  impoundment of vehicles, and mandatory installation of a vehicle interlock device.
