Arizona Senator John McCain Second-Most-Disliked U.S. Senator in the Country; Jon Kyl "Well Below Average," According to Poll

What voter apathy looks like.
Just three days after Public Policy Polling found that just about no one likes Sarah Palin or Donald Trump, the pollsters say today that Arizonans don't like their senators either.

Arizona Senator John McCain -- who had a 40 percent approval rating in the firm's January polling -- now has a 34 percent approval rating, the second-lowest among U.S. senators in the nation.

"[McCain] has improved considerably with the GOP after a bruising primary battle last summer and his White House loss, but he is in the basement with everyone else," the pollsters say in a statement.

The only U.S. Senator disliked more than John McCain is Independent Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman -- with just 29 percent of Connecticut respondents approving of his job performance.

To be fair to McCain, Republican Nevada Senator John Ensign had a lower approval rating than The Maverick -- but it doesn't really count, since Ensign quit his post earlier in the week amid an ethics investigation.

Then there's Arizona Senator Jon Kyl -- in the aftermath of his "not intended to be a factual statement" gaffe -- who managed to drop down 27 spots in the Senate popularity contest to a ranking of "well below" average, ending with a mere 42 percent approval rating.

To the likely surprise of no one, Arizona's other two big-name goofballs -- Governor Jan Brewer and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio -- both had slightly favorable approval ratings.

And for the fun fact of the day, only 20 percent of respondents said Arizona should have an official state gun.

The 623 Arizona voters responding to the poll -- mostly old, white Republicans -- were the same respondents in the Palin/Trump results released on Tuesday.

Check out the entire poll results released today by Public Policy Polling here.

While I'm not defending McCain, he really came through for me when I enlisted his help with an issue.

I'm surprised that our senile state Senate president wasn't featured as a goofball, which he is. Pearce is a goofball who will soon be fitted for his straitjacket. Same for the Flaccid Fool of MCSO and Governor Jan Brewer.

Yes, after another about 200 to 300 Arizonans or those Mexicans either die in the desert, or in that hell hole of a jail which houses "misdemeanor" offenders, and is "cruel and unusual punishment' for those whose only crimes are actually against themselves, and are not felons. Arizonans should be ashamed at that, and as one who paid through my property taxes for the original jail, don't see how this crap continues there and left that state five years ago because of all the garbage which continues there.

If Arizonans dislike McCain so much, then why did they re-elect him? You had a great candidate in the late Dave Nolan, as Dave proved in the Senate debate. Practically every good thing widely reported about McCain is a lie, as anyone who takes the time to google "John McCain" can testify.

Besides having a jawline eerily reminiscent of the countours of the Mighty Ferguson commode, does John Kyl have ANYTHING which recommends him as a representative of the people?

I hope they do a survey on US House members' popularity. Most are two-faced weasels, promising one thing and voting the opposite. I wish more were as philosophically resolute and consistent as Ron Paul.

Although Ron Paul's "free market" theories with respect to health care (you can hardly compare or price shop a hospital in the midst of a stroke or heart attack) means he is another Reaganomics believer, which actually contributed to the increase in the illegal immigration in Arizona after those highways were widened inthe 80's and 90's in order to "facililitate commerce" which also brought more of the criminal element to Arizona through those borders, and also legalized all those coyotes who had the money and were the former drug dealers and auto thieves and could apply for that amnesty way back when and now hold dual citizenship making it even easier to cross that desert with their new illegal activities now killing all those Mexicans, their former countrymen.

McCain was an ass, is an ass and always will be an ass.

And he is one old-assed ass. McCain's so old, before God said "let their be light" he first said, "McCain, you old bastard, get out of the way!"

"mostly old white republicans". What if you said "mostly old black men", or terrosits "mostly old arabs". It would be considered racist. Double standard = Democrat. Crappy journalism. I think you suck.

Did you actually click on the link that shows the polling results where the largest group people identified themselves as was Republican and over 60% said they were over the age of 46?

Ross1776
Ross1776

Better to have said that most were "adults" over the age of 40, rather than "old, white people" and just wonder about the youth in this country more and more and just how they will feel when they reach 40 and whether they will feel they are "old," or just hitting their prime. The age which is "older" to most is over 65 or 70, not 49.

Saying mostly old Arabs isn't racist just like saying mostly old white republicans isn't racist. Racism is when you assume something about someone else based on the color of their skin. Like Black people can jump high because they are black, or the one I get all the time, you're asian so can you help me out with my math homework... If you were to say however that Michael is a 20 something Asian democrat then all you would be doing is correctly identifying my age, nationality and voting preference.

On top of that, he said "Arizona's other two big-name goofballs" which is as far from professional journalism as you can get.

If it makes you feel better, no one responded to the poll as "old arab terrosits."

Ross1776
Ross1776

So they asked the race and age of those responding to the poll, and left out the "Middle Eastern" ethnicity question maybe? I agree, McCain sucks and is no Goldwater Conservative, but an opportunist who moved to Arizona in order to get married and then run for office after marrying a native. Which should actually stop in addition to having to prove your citizenship in order to run for any federal and state office so that all those Mexicans and Canadians aren't someday holding American office with their "foreign" interests first and foremost.

It looks like Palin will be riding on the same wagon as McCain as far as moving to a state and then running for a senate seat. I am not much of a Goldwater fan either, but at least he was an Arizonan. I remember shopping at Goldwater"s and Rhode's. Of course if you drank a Budweiser you helped make Hensley / McCain richer too! I prefer imported beer, but it to probably comes out of Hensley warehouse. At least Goldwater did things to help Arizona, or at least more so than McCain. I do not think its any secret Palin has her eye on Kyle's soon to be vacated seat. Me thinks her and Brewer share a brain. Brewer gets it on alternating days and some full weekends. Palin is not even smart enough to know how to use it when its her turn.
