Afternoon Poll: Did Osama bin Laden Deserve Proper Muslim Burial?

This is the fake photo of Osama bin Laden's bullet-riddled body that's been floating around the Internet today. Hopefully we'll see the real deal sometime soon.

As you may have heard, Osama bin Laden, the POS responsible for the deaths of thousands of people and who managed to evade capture -- and death -- for nearly 10 years, is dead. What you may have not heard (yet) is reports that he was given a "proper Muslim burial" at sea after getting fatally shot by U.S. special forces at a compound on the outskirts of the Pakistani city of Abbottabad.

According to "anonymous government sources," after getting shot, special forces soldiers reportedly took his body to a U.S. naval ship and dropped him into the water in accordance with "Islamic practice and tradition" that states the body must be buried within 24 hours of death.

If you look at how the remains of other infamous outlaws have been treated, Bin Laden's corpse got off easy. If you ask us, the Italians had the right idea when they hung the body of Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini by meat hooks in the middle of Milan and then stuffed his own testicles into his mouth as the crowds cheered.

To give someone like Bin Laden the respectful gesture of burying him in accordance to the same religion he spent his life exploiting in order to kill innocent people is disgraceful to not only Americans, but to Muslims -- the vast majority of whom don't subscribe to Bin Laden's murderous brand of the religion -- as well.

But we want to know what you think: should Bin Laden have been rewarded with a proper Muslim burial before slipping into the afterlife to join the 72 virgins he believed were awaiting his arrival, or should he be strung up in New York's Times Square and castrated by the families of his victims?

Why Obama would show OBL ANY mercy is beyond me. If ANYTHING, he should have gotten the Mussolini treatment or, even better, the Hitler treatment.........That really would be a sight to see.....

It doesn't matter what he deserved. What he deserved ceased to be a consideration after he died. What was left was just a body, not a man that could be punished or humiliated, no matter how much we may have desired to.

Giving his body a proper Muslim burial does not cost us anything but the opportunity to act out futile anger. He is no longer a threat and whatever amount of justice that should have been a delivered is now a moot point.

Denying his body a proper Muslim burial would, however, carry a cost. Legitimate or not, it would have given rise to grievances against us by those that truly do believe in the religion that Osama bin Laden misrepresented and twisted to his own ends. It would have radicalized future terrorists and cost us lives down the line. It would have turned even his own death into a victory for his cause. To indulge our anger, given such circumstance, would have been a self-defeating act.

There was a time, before the mechanized and industrialized death and destruction of the World Wars and age of international terrorism, when it was common for nations to give proper if not outright ceremonial burials to high profile enemies...
