Thieves Make Off with Bronze Statue from Phoenix Cancer Survivors Park

Phoenix Police Sergeant Tommy Thompson tells New Times that someone broke a 4-foot-high bronze statue from its base and stole it from the Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Survivors Park.
The figure was part of an eight-statue work of art by sculptor Victor Salmones titled "Cancer ... There's Hope," and depicts people at various stages of fighting cancer.
Thompson says the statue was broken off at the leg, leaving only a shoe connected to the solid base of the $12,000 figure.
Exactly how thieves managed to break off the statue, though, is a bit of a mystery.
Thompson says reports describe no tool marks where the statue was torn off, and it was possibly rocked back-and-forth until it finally came loose.
