Morning Poll: Should Arizona Lose Highway Funding Over Tea Party License Plate?

donttreadonme.jpg
This image on a license plate could cause Arizona to lose federal highway funding.
A bill allowing the creation of license plates featuring the Gadsden Flag, the adopted symbol of the Tea party movement, is awaiting the signature of Governor Jan Brewer, and people -- a New York congressman, in particular -- aren't happy about it.

Anyone who wants a Gadsden Flag plate would have to pony up $25, $17 of which goes to "promote Tea Party governing principles" because the Tea Party is the organization that came up with the required $32,000 to create the plates.

Congressman Gary Ackerman says using government resources to bankroll a political agenda is a misuse of public money. His response: the "License Plate Political Slush Fund Prevention Act."

Under Ackerman's bill, the plates would cause Arizona -- and any other state that issues similar plates -- to lose 15 percent of its federal highway funds if any proceeds from a vanity plate go to a political group that advocates the defeat of a political candidate.

The Tea Party isn't officially a political party, but let's be honest: it's something close. And it certainly advocates for political candidates.

Tea Partiers say Ackerman's bill is symbolic of everything they oppose: big government telling people what to do.

We want to know what you think: should Arizona lose federal highway funding over this license-plate flap?

I don't understand the hate... why can't people be proud of whatever they want? And why would we Arizonans WANT to lose federal money because of it. This is just as silly as joining in the boycotts over 1070. Arizona is our state even when we might disagree with it. Just as silly, how about DBacks must bat 1-handed until 1070 repealed? Makes no sense to hurt the state because of something we disagree with.

I think we should just get rid of the Tea Party. Problem solved.

Yeah good idea. Get rid of their poisonous "Tea". Just like they're gonna get rid of our Beer--4 Lokos and Blast.

LOL - are you still on that topic?!?!? I think, instead of living vicariously through me, you should just try the Blue Blast for yourself. It kind of creeped me out, but you might enjoy it? Different strokes, you know... ;o)

I may have voted wrong in the poll. I think Arizona should lose the funding if they were pass the bill that allows a clearly partisan plate. I think Arizona should not pass a bill allowing a clearly partisan plate.

Can we get a plate with a Cesar Chavez image on it...it may be a fair trade.

"Vanity" is a fine term for the mindless mofos that pass for law makers in AZ.Birther bills, state gun bills, idiotic abortion bills, and now this ?!?!

After what George W. Bush and his demonic associates got away with for 8 long years, and now this First Black Puppet, Obama - the single term president, who hasn't done anything but mock the greatest achievement for Black Americans, we have as an alternative... pouty Republicans going by the name of the "Tea Party".

I wouldn't give those quasi-Republicans any opportunity to advance from here.To read their "Mission Statement" is to swallow the typical vomit put forth by Rush Limbaugh.Their use of the word patriot is tells me T H E Y A R E N O T T O BE T R U S T E D.

Arizona should lose its Tea Party license plate.

And get a clue.

At this point, even Uzbekistan and Uganda look at Arizona and say "whoa, those MFers are REALLY backwards!"

That's just silly. Uganda barely survived Idi Amin...

tea party folks might be laser sighted on what they want, but so what? they aren't out dealing drugs, they pay their taxes, they vote most of the time.

i want to start a campaign to bring everyone together... i think the h8ers on both sides are getting to me... I can't take much more of the tea party haters any more than i can take any more of the chris matthews, rachel maddow h8ers.

HONESTLY! we all want schools to teach our kids ,we all want to take better care of our teachers, we all want better jobs, we all want terrorists to stop terrorizing, we all want cleaner fuel and politicians of ALL parties to stop lying to us. we want hospitals and doctors for when we're sick and for people to stop telling us what to do when we're not. we shouldn't smoke so much, and neither should our cars. we are a nation of immigrants but in this day we probably need a better system so that we can protect the country without ending the american dream.

my rant is done, and i don't dislike anyone for disagreeing with any/all of it. i respect you for it, in fact. same goes, if you like it, or if you don't care one way or another.

I'd like to buy the world a Coke. Hug a conservative today. Hug a liberal. Let's teach the rest of the world how to stop hating each other by starting ourselves.

Cheers.

If there is pot hole and a nativist biker(Hells Angels or otherwise) crashes as a result of it. Blame the poor highway conditions on the RepubliFOOLs. They would rather favor self-promotion for politiKKKal gains over the safety of Amrican families traveling on our roadways. That itself is a travesty to the American people.

As far as I know, there aren't Republican and Democrat license plates, are there? If not, then there shouldn't be a Tea Party plate either. I'm just not sure if there should be a loss of federal funding as a retribution. THis poll really needs a third choice, something like 'The Tea Parties are a bunch of tools, but the whole state shouldn't have to suffer'.... THat would be the one I'd vote on.
