What event could possibly combine collector cacti, the cast of "Glee," and baseball into one package?

If your guess was this year's MLB All-Star Game -- the first to be hosted in Arizona -- then you're right, oddly enough.

The Arizona Diamondbacks held a press conference today at Chase Field to announce the new stuff. It was hosted by Diamondbacks' play-by-play TV announcer Daron Sutton and featured Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, Diamondbacks CEO Derrick Hall and Managing General Partner Ken Kendrick, MLB Executive Vice President Tim Brosnan, former Diamondbacks slugger Luis Gonzalez, and current D'Backs slugger Justin Upton.

The collector cacti are MLB- and Diamondbacks-themed cactus statues, coming in four different flavors.

MLB says the cactus "will take its place alongside recent luminaries such as the Statue of Liberty, the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, and Mickey Mouse," which is almost as embarrassing as having a league-wide steroids scandal.

MLB licensee Forever Collectibles is making 10 of the statues at life-size -- 7.5 feet tall and more than 700 pounds - but will be marketing the 7.5-inch models through retailers and MLB.com.

The cast of Fox's hit show Glee comes into play with the "first-ever all-star charity dance-a-thon," because nothing says professional baseball like the femininity of a high school glee club.

But on July 9, fans can participate in the event at the Phoenix Convention Center, hosted by Glee choreographer Zach Woodlee.

If that doesn't rile up baseball fans, then consider the prospect of the dance-a-thon winner getting an exclusive meet-and-greet on the set of Glee.

On the plus side, proceeds from the event will be donated equally between the Prostate Cancer Foundation, Stand Up To Cancer, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Also announced today were players selected for the MLB All-Star voting ballots, which can be found here.

The 82nd All-Star Game starts at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12.

Surprising that Whoopi wants to whoop it up in SB1070 Land, what with her being born in Kenya and all.
