Jan Brewer's Reminder After Defying Conserva-nuts: I Signed SB 1070, Remember?

jantalkdirty.jpg
Governor Jan Brewer recently pissed off her far-right-wing-nut base by vetoing three bills it desperately wanted, and today she's trying to make amends by bringing up the issue that got her elected: Arizona Senate Bill1070.

The bills Brewer vetoed include the ridiculous "Birther Bill," which could have required presidential candidates to provide documentation describing what their penises look like to get on the ballot in Arizona.

As we mentioned at the time, it seemed the governor caught a brief case of common sense -- very brief.

In what appears to be an attempt to say hey, Conserva-nuts, look at me, look at me -- I'm still one of you, Brewer issued a press release today reiterating her support for SB 1070, Arizona's controversial immigration law.

Tomorrow marks the one-year anniversary of Brewer's signing the bill, and the politically savvy gov isn't gonna let that opportunity pass by without screeching to anyone who'll listen that she signed the bill.

See Jan's entire statement below.

"One year ago Saturday, I signed into law the Support our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act, better known as SB 1070. I said at the time -- and it bears repeating now -- that my signature on SB 1070 represents my steadfast support for enforcing the law, both against illegal immigration and racial profiling.

"So, where are we one year later? Federal courts have blocked some of the most critical portions of the law. But they let stand its prohibition on 'sanctuary city' policies, meaning local authorities can no longer turn a blind eye to illegal immigration. Just as important, the courts couldn't sap SB 1070's strength as a rallying point for those of us sick and tired of hearing that our nation's border can't be secured, illegal immigration is just too big a problem to be solved or that we all must simply accept drug smugglers on our soil and drop houses in our neighborhoods. With the signing of SB 1070, Arizona said loudly and clearly: 'Enough.

"Despite SB 1070 being misunderstood and erroneously portrayed by numerous initial media reports, support for the legislation spread across the entire nation. That support remains strong, whether measured by public polling or the nearly $4 million in private donations given freely by those who have contributed to the legal defense fund established last year: KeepAZSafe.com.

"The outpouring of support from all over the country has had a significant impact. Remember, it wasn't until a month after SB 1070 was signed that President Obama agreed to send National Guard troops to the border. Arizona's actions and the subsequent national attention that resulted has helped pressure the White House to act on border security in ways it never would have otherwise. Now, we must keep up the pressure.

"Arizona has been more than patient in waiting for Washington to take concrete steps to stem the flow of illegal immigration. After decades of federal inaction and misguided policy, I and the Legislature had no choice but to stand up for the rule of law and the citizens of this great country. Arizona is willing to do the job that the federal government won't do.

"One year after the signing of SB1070, I'm determined to fight for this legislation - all the way to the Supreme Court, if necessary. But it is equally clear that the mission ahead of us is not merely to defend SB 1070. As Governor, I will continue to defend and protect the safety, health and welfare of Arizona citizens.

"Let no one doubt that, one year later, Arizona is stronger and more united than ever before in its resolve."

So what ?

We're supposed to congratulate the Desert Medusa for vetoeing two of history's most asinine wastes of legislative time and money ?

Anyone who doesn't understand what the term "Dumbing Down" means, try a weekend stay in Arizona. Guaranteed you won't come back, but hey, we can use even two day's worth of revenue.

And for God's sake, do bring along a gun... Colt six shooter is the "State Gun"... but Glock "9"s with extended clips are quite popular in Arizona parking lots

The bill is a bone thrown to those who think it will do anything about illegals and of course to be re-elected as the others have said. This idea for the bill did not come down from the Sheriff or anyone in Arizona. It looks like it was written by some media related trough eater who takes their orders from the global puppet masters...possibly U.N. in origin. They are the controlling force in the world although they look like bumbling fools to make it easier to accomplish their goals. In the end, they are not the top dog either. Always look beyond the obvious.

This actually means nothing. The Republicans actually control a veto-proof majority. All they have to do is bring it up again, and get all of their ducks in a row.

If she'd just sober up and realize she could have a great governorship as a moderate republican, and she wouldn't have to pander to the extremist "the sky is falling" neocons.

They will leave her standing at the curb one day; wish she could figure that out and just do her job without all the posturing and rhetoric.

It seems to me that Governor Jan Brewer's return to sanity apparently was just a temporary one. The U.S. Supreme Court doesn't have to hear Jan's petition, should one be filed.

Seems to me she's babbling about 1070 and not doing much else.

Where are the jobs you promised, Jan? Oh wait..... They've gone overseas to China because it's cheaper. Your "idea" of attracting "jobs" to this state is to give tax breaks to the Goddamn corporations.

Where's Arizona's big "comeback" Jan? It ain't happenin til 2017! Arizona will be dead fucking last in pulling out of the recession.

What happened to education Jan? Your and your buddies (namely Pearce) cut education to the point that no one wants to go to Arizona schools. People go to MIT, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Wharton, etc.

What about healthcare Jan? You joined Florida in a federal lawsuit challenging Obamacare. Then you wanted to ELIMINATE AHCCCS, eliminating the federal dollars that pour into Arizona. Then you imposed (at the behest of your buddy Pearce) ridiculous surcharges for missed appointments.

What about the budget Jan? That was "balanced" (if you can call it that) on the backs of cities and counties. Jan had a hard enough time balancing Arizona's budget. I read that Maine's budget deficit was $837 BILLION! Jan would've had a heart attack trying to balance that budget. Jan would've had a heart attack trying to balance that budget.

Can someone remind me why we voted this puppet into office when it seems to me that her buddies Senator Pearce, the MCSO shurf, and Buffoon are the puppet masters..............

Mrs. Brewer is interesting, if nothing else. I think it's interesting when she ad libs that she is busy 'governing' to describe her busy day doing whatever it is she thinks she needs to do. I suppose her husband, the retired chiropractor, used to say he had a very busy day of 'chiroing'... or perhaps 'practoring'...

She is just taking advantage of the date of her having signed the bill that sealed a defeat against Mr. Goddard, the do little of nothing state attorney general, and to remind pearce and company that she really does think she might be in control at times...now that she apparently is no longer drinking scotch and just supping wine on occasion...

You can take a puppet to a wine glass, but you can't make her drink... maybe...

This pig is doing NOTHING to enforce the provisions of SB 1070 which were NOT declared unconstitutional - her duplicity and double speak is very apparent to all who would care to look her way. All she and the other whackjobs out there wanted to do was defy the U.S. Constitution and invade the privacy of the U.S. citizens. Oh, and pander to the right wing bigots out there who place more importance on the harrassment of a few poor undocumented workers rather than help the unemployed workers of Arizona with concrete laws to help Arizona business create jobs. NOT ONE bill came out of this last legislature which helped to create jobs - only ones which would decrease them.

Piggy Piggy Piggy , here suiiiiiiieeee, here piggy piggy piggy!!!!

Sorry, when I posted my comment, I repeated the line "Jan would've had a heart attack trying to balance that budget."
