Jan Brewer Makes it Official: Arizona Would Prefer You Not Be Gay if You Want to Adopt a Kid

It's official: the state of Arizona would "prefer" you not be a gay if you want to adopt a kid.

Governor Jan Brewer today signed a bill into law that makes it as difficult as humanly possible for gay people to adopt children in Arizona.

The new law doesn't necessarily say homosexuals can't adopt kids -- but it states that Arizona would prefer that married couples be given higher consideration for adoptions than non-married people, if all other factors are equal.

In other words, since homosexuals aren't allowed to tie the knot in Arizona -- yet -- they would lose out to heterosexual married couples every time.

"Arizona desperately needed Governor Brewer to demonstrate real leadership today. Instead, we were given another bad law enacted out of political allegiance rather than what's best for Arizona and Arizona's children," Equality Arizona Chairman Tom Mann says. "Experienced child health and social service authorities, not politicians, should make adoption decisions."

The law is another attempt to allow the state to play morality cop, with the implication that it's somehow better to be married than single, or worse yet, a homosexual.

As we pointed out last week, marriage between a man and a woman isn't always the solution to every parental problem. This is not just a Gay issue - my father continued to be a foster parent after his divorce and adopted my youngest brother as a single parent. There was a married couple that had an option to adopt him, but they said it was obvious he was better off with my Dad who had raised him since he had been born.

You don't mind if I DON'T hit that link, do ya, James?Reading a story about humans failing in such a horrifically abysmal way isn't my idea of entertainment or education. But it sure is sensational!

When can we dump Governor Jan Brewer and the Legislature off at the mental hospital?

If we did, it would probably be the first time she has seen her son in years.

I personally would prefer that adopted children go to hetro parents so they can learn the value of each gender. By the way, check out this article about more rich, cultural, heritage from our lovely neighbors to the south.

Yeah, here in the culturally rich U.S. of A we just have crazy white people that open fire at the local Safeway Congress on Your Corner event. Or Columbine. Or V.Tech. We are so superior to those silly beaners.

Since the New Times says all married heterosexuals are crack heads then the law must be bad. Placing social services authorities in charge of deciding who gets to adopt would be a great idea. They do such a fine job in determining which situations are deemed appropriate for taking children out of the home. No one has ever been harmed by their wise decisions. Yes married heterosexuals are the best for parenting. New Times votes for flaming homosexual singles and dyke couples. Nice.

1) Your use of the terms "dyke" and "flaming homosexual singles" only serves to indicate how incredibly ignorant and unintelligent you are. If you want to try and present what you believe is a valid point, don't use pejoratives.

2) Why wouldn't the New Times "vote" (I assume you mean support) equal rights for the LGBT community? Not only do they employ intelligent people who understand that homosexuality is neither wrong nor a disease, they're owned by The Village Voice.

I'm a 62 yr old straight male and, over the course of my life,, I've know several people, of both genders, who happened to be gay and, as a general rule, I find them to be a better class of people.

No, New Times pointed out that finding out whether someone is married isn't a substitute for finding out whether someone would make a good parent. And having someone like you as a parent, who would abuse a gay kid with epithets like the ones you used, would jeopardize the life of the child. Seriously, imagine if your own parents absolutely hated your guts the way you just demonstrated your disgust for gay people.
