Fulton Brock Tried to Hide Evidence of Affair Between Wife and Teenage Boy, Prosecutor Alleges at Susan Brock Sentencing Hearing

fultonbrock.jpg
How much did Maricopa County Supervisor Fulton Brock really know about his wife's relationship with a teenage boy?
As we mentioned in our prior post, Susan Brock, the somewhat-estranged wife of Maricopa County Supervisor Fulton Brock, was sentenced to 13 years in prison this afternoon for having a three-year sexual relationship with a teenage boy.

However, day two of her sentencing hearing was more focused on her county supervisor husband than it was on Mrs. Brock.

Indeed, the Brock family sex saga took another shocking turn this afternoon: Fulton Brock knew about the relationship between his wife and the boy and tried to hide evidence it, the prosecutor in the case alleged at the hearing,

This might explain why the Chandler Police Department served a search warrant earlier this week to obtain a handwriting sample from the county supervisor.

Before today's hearing, Fulton Brock's attorney, David Cantor, revealed that the prosecutor in the case, Jason Holmberg, planned to introduce evidence that might cast the county supervisor in a negative light -- and that it shouldn't be allowed because Fulton Brock had not been charged with a crime.

The evidence was allowed, and Holmberg told the court how Fulton Brock not only knew about the affair, but tried to help cover it up and have the charges against his wife reduced.

When Chandler police served a search warrant at the Brocks' home, Holmberg says, the county supervisor threatened to call his pal Joe Arpaio's boys in beige to stop the search. He also told Chandler cops he had no idea where his wife's cell phone was, only to retrieve it -- as well as credit cards Susan Brock used to buy the victim gifts -- from a lock box in the home about 45 minutes later.

Phone calls between Fulton and Susan Brock also were played in court today, KPHO-TV reports. In one of the calls, Fulton Brock suggested that the victim had both cash and a ring. At that point, Susan Brock told him to clam up because the call was being recorded. Holmberg argued that the Brocks planned to claim the victim was extorting them.

In another call, Fulton Brock tells his wife he planned to set up a meeting with leaders of the Mormon Church, the prosecutors, and the victim's family to try to get them to lessen the charges.

The Mormon Church, as we've mentioned, already knew there was at least suspicion that Susan Brock was having sex with the boy.

In October 2009, about a year before Susan Brock was charged with a crime,

the boy's parents called a meeting at their church to confront Brock -- and her husband, Fulton -- about the relationship.

During the meeting with LDS stake president Mitch Jones, the father of Brock's victim asked her point-blank whether she was having a sexual relationship with his son. Brock denied it -- with her county supervisor husband sitting in the room with her.

Susan Brock may be the only one going to prison, but it could be argued that the boy was sexually abused for an entire year because none of the adults in the room during the meeting at the Mormon Church bothered to call the cops about their suspicions.

LDS stake president Mitch Jones, the father of Brock's victim didn't report his own Son's sexual abuse - HE should be charged with a violation of the Mandatory Reporting Requirement - a church official AND a parent. Double guilty in letting his son get raped.

Oh wait - Mitch Jones - is he that ultra-right wing whacko that loves to claim how righteous and pious he is? He's an anti-gay activist covering up hetrosexual abuse of children. HMMM! I bet he's proud that his boy was getting some at 14 years old - and from the wife and daughter of one of the most powerful Mormons in Arizona!

What I want to know from the reporters at this fine weekly news journal is was National Bank of Arizona involved in mortgage fraud? If this turns out to be true, Mormon Stake President Mitch Jones could end up facing several charges himself, not just violation of the mandatory reporting laws - State and Federal laws dictate that anyone who believes a child may be being abused is required to report it to the authorities - but for being involved in the takedown of our economy by CHEATING as a banker!

Well well. So now we know the truth.

Fulton was not in the dark in regards to this entire situation. He knew full well what was going on and tried to cover it up in a half-assed attempt to cover his own sorry ass. I smell an indictment and perp-walk coming.....

So, my question is: When can we expect a press conference from Jason Rose announcing Fulton's resignation from the Board of Supervisors?

ExpertShot
ExpertShot

For Brock Fulton? LMAO! No, XSoldier, there will be no justice - only another lesson on how the poor people with no power in this community can expect to be discriminated against because of their social status/income level. If your rich, you get the fix. If you're poor you get nada.

Look at the people in power in Maricopa County (which IS essentially the power base of the State of Arizona) - the examples of injustice are legion!

From the purposeful genocide of the indigenous people of this continent right on up to the present day creep-out on the "invasion" of Spanish speaking people, this type of injustice is what leads to violence. Humans are very similar to other primates in their propensity towards intra-species violence.

Jared Diamond's The Third Chimpanzee (ISBN 0-09-980180-9) estimates that 64% of hunter-gather societies engage in warfare every two years. Although it has been argued (e.g. in the UNESCO Seville Statement) that warfare is a cultural artifact, many anthropologists[citation needed] dispute this, noting that small human tribes exhibit similar patterns of violence to chimpanzee groups, the most murderous of the primates, and one of two of our nearest living genetic relatives.

The "higher" functions of reason and speech are more developed in the brain of Homo sapiens than other primates, but the relative size of the limbic system is a constant in apes, monkeys, and humans. The combination of inventiveness and urge to violence in humans has been cited as evidence against its long term survival.

People get where they are by cutting corners ("cheating") and getting away with it.

What I am saying is, based on the story, it appears that Fulton was complicit in hiding what his wife did and his daughter is accused of. I'm also saying that he may be guilty of a crime and needs to resign from the Board of Supervisors. I mean, how can we, the taxpayers, trust him?

MCSO SPECIAL
MCSO SPECIAL

From the AZFAMILY website on January 28th...straight from the Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery"

“I can tell you that she’s not receiving any special treatment and I’m certain from her end she doesn’t feel like she’s receiving any special treatment,” said Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery.

NO SPECIAL TREATMENT? Burgers, home made foods, breads, special phone calls, contact visits including kissing and Brock calls on the MCSO to arrange for all of this?

Right. No special treatment. Now we hear on the audio tapes of some of these calls between Fulton and the pedophile that she has also inquired about conjugal visits and "special" meetings to see if she could get the charges lessened.

Fulton Brock charged right out there with the "I'm crushed" routine only to find out what was REALLY going on here.

Bye Mrs. Brock. Bye Fulton.

Sounds like Monty is as in the dark as Fulton was about this whole situation.

Monty knows full-well Susan is getting special treatment from the Flaccid Fool.

["When Chandler police served a search warrant at the Brocks' home, Holmberg says, the county supervisor threatened to call his pal Joe Arpaio's boys in beige to stop the search."]

This is very telling. It shows how enamored people become with someone like the Flaccid Fool. Chandler Police Department is the agency of primary law enforcement responsibility for the City of Chandler, not MCSO. MCSO has primary responsibility OUTSIDE incorporated areas in Maricopa County that have their own law enforcement agency.

For Brock to think he could call MCSO and have them come by and stop CPD from conducting a search based on a warrant issued by Maricopa courts is simply absurd. If, indeed, Brock actually uttered such a statement it certainly shows what a naive horse's ass sthe man actually is, and why he might think of someone like the MCSO shurf as being someone important. Not to mention he would be VERY afraid of someone like the MCSO shurf, as one might be afraid of someone like a mafia leader.

This whole story is now shaking out very much like the Catholic church having protected it's gay priests who were raping choir boys...

I don't think the Mormon church will be proud of this outcome.

You (New TImes) whack on the Catholic Church for covering up sex with young people by their personnel but why are you leaving the Morman Church out of the mix - here' s proof!

Lilmoochi
Lilmoochi

This wasn't a church leader having sex with underage kids you dummy. It's a member of the congregation. Completely different. The Catholic church has been notorious for shuffling around their priests and ministers, people of authority in the church. Brock's wife and daughter are certain to be excommunicated if they haven't been already. And the fact that anyone is mormon is irrelevant. An adult had inappropriate contact with a minor and should now face the consequences. Had this situation occurred with any other politician, let alone an everyday citizen, I can guarantee his religion wouldn't be such a focal point.

ExpertShot
ExpertShot

Well Lilmoochi - if you HAD read my post, I wasn't being critical of New Times for not reporting on "a church leader having sex with underage kids", I was talking about the church(s) COVERING UP people in their sects "having sex with underage kids", Kinda different huh. It's so weird that you would say that - kind of like you flunked the "different" and "same" lessons in kindergarten.

The fact is, the Mormon Church (as well as the Catholic Church or any other church that fails to report sexual abuse) is wrong, it's leaders were wrong and criminal charges should be brought against it and any other person or institution that fails to report sexual abuse of a minor. Essentially, in this case, it was statutory rape that the Mormon Church officials KNEW WAS OCCURRING and did nothing.

Big Bad Voodoo Mama
Big Bad Voodoo Mama

Sounds like they didn't KNOW IT WAS OCCURRING based on the description in the article. It sounds like they believed the story told to them by the lying couple when they said that it wasn't happening. Should they have been more suspicious? Sounds like it in this case. That doesn't mean they had any intent to cover anything up, just that they bought the lie that the Brock's were telling everyone.

If they did have suspicion, they should have reported it, and are legally liable. But how can we know what their honest suspicions were?

ExpertShot
ExpertShot

As I commented on an earlier post regarding this issue - Brock is liable to be charge for not reporting sexual abuse of a minor. Will he be charged? Nope - he's powerful and connected to those Mormons in mesa - so NO JUSTICE!

Mistalee
Mistalee

If he knowingly conspired to conceal evidence, then "obstruction of justice" seems a likely charge.

ExpertShot

Do you know of the Arizona statutes which may have been violated and pertain to this situation?

Here's a couple:

“Any person who reasonably believes that a minor is or has been the victim of . . . childabuse . . ..” Ariz. Rev. Stat. 13-3620(A).This includes:• Any physician, physician’s assistant, optometrist, dentist, osteopath, chiropractor, podiatrist, behavioral health professional, nurse, psychologist, counselor or social worker who develops the reasonable believe in the courseof treating a patient.• Any peace officer, member of the clergy, priest or Christian Sciencepractitioner.• The parent, stepparent or guardian of the minor.• School personnel or domestic violence victim advocate who develop thereasonable belief in the course of their employment.• Any other person who has responsibility for the care or treatment of theminor.”Ariz. Rev. Stat. 13-3620(A)

Reporters must report any “reasonable belief” that “a minor is or has been the victim of…child abuse….” Ariz. Rev. Stat. 13-3620(A).

Pit Boss

F. Brock and The Mormon "leaders" who knew about this should all be arrested and charged with aiding and abetting. The meeting should have been reported immediately to law enforcement by the church. Doesn't surprise me that they didn't do a thing, though. They probably assumed God would take care of it if they prayed hard enough.

Speaking of family values, what does it say about a family who will harbor their illegal alien cousins, grandfathers, grandmothers, etc even though they know that being an illegal alien is wrong? I mean, you know, since we are judging people.
