Friedman Recycling Plant Fire in South Phoenix Visible from Downtown

If you were wondering what you were seeing -- and smelling -- this afternoon...

It was a fire at the Friedman Recycling Plant at 35th Avenue and Lincoln Street in south Phoenix. Billowing smoke was visible for miles as firefighters hosed down bales of blazing paper from atop ladders several stories above the fire.

The cause of the blaze wasn't immediately known. As of this writing, no injuries had been reported.
