Dave Hendershott Resigns Before Scheduled Firing; Arpaio Says He'll Release Some Records Next Week

Sheriff Joe Arpaio fired his chief deputy, Dave Hendershott, last week -- then let him "retire" before the May 5 effective date of termination.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio fired his chief deputy last week, but Dave Hendershott is being allowed to resign before the scheduled date of termination.

Is that really a resignation? Typically, when someone's forced to resign from a company or governmental agency, the boss doesn't first state in writing that the employee is being terminated.

The Arizona Republic, which just broke the news, also reports that Arpaio claims he'll release "new documents" next week. We're not sure if that's a reference to the 1,022-page investigative report on the Munnell Memo that he's sitting on, or something else.

The article states that one of Arpaio's lackeys on administrative leave due to the Munnell accusations, Larry Black, has chosen to respond to a termination letter in writing rather than subject himself to a name-clearing hearing. We assume that's due to the potentially embarrassing questions about his relationship with another of Arpaio's top men on leave, Captain Joel Fox, that might come up in a hearing. For more details about the scandal going on under Arpaio's nose, read our recent feature article, Love Connection.

Arpaio says he accepts Hendershott's "retirement," reminding us that Hendershott will get to keep his $51,000 annual pension pay even if his alleged wrongdoing results in federal prosecution. That probably won't be enough to keep him in his Tuscan-estate-style luxury rental home in north Phoenix, but maybe he'll end up hitting a taxpayer-funded jackpot with his lawsuit against the county.

Hey guys, aren’t you all being a little hard on David with his memo, come on, give him a break!

Remember, for the last 20 years the only thing he has written on were yellow sticky notes that he threw away when they were no longer needed.

And whenever he had a “real memo” to write, such as a termination letter on some suspected “dime dropper” he called in Lisa or another funky from the secretarial pool who took dictation.

This letter of resignation was the only thing David has written himself in the last 20 years!

Yes, David looks like a complete ass with all his misspellings and poor sentence structure.

But David will get plenty of experience in the coming months on grammar and spelling as he pens his autobiography “America’s Slimiest Lawman” sitting in isolation in protective custody.

I know the 9th Circuit Court Ruled Pensions Can Be Sought After to Pay Restitution-maybe it's Applicable?

Apparently Hendershott missed a few grammar classes in the sixth grade last year. I'm surprised he wasn't injured by the way he fell all over himself in thanking Arpaio for the honor of serving the Pope of Maricopa County and the saintly way they caused the citizens to pay for all the lawsuits filed against them. God bless you Dave and you too "Sherff".

We need to vote for the best Hendershott picture. How about tomorrow? I will bring my wide angle lens.

I don't think AzCentral will be too offended if I share this:

http://www.azcentral.com/ic/pd...

Read it, and be glad, be VERY glad this guy is gone.

It's interesting when a person describes his former boss as 'cunning'...

Yet another piece of the corruption puzzle within MCSO.

I wonder why Blimpie "retired" from MCSO when he was collecting salary plus retirement benefits?

Also, I read on azcentral.com that Lackey Blackie was going to fight his termination. Just like Fox..........

In yesterday's Arizona Republic, EJ Montini interviewed Buffoon and Buffoon said that "imminent action was heading Fox's way" and that Hendy's "finding of fact" was more than 200 pages. Wonder what "imminent action" will befall Captain Fox?

When is the Senile Spinster gonna release Buffoon's report? When will the Sick Old Fool resign his office and hang his head in shame?

Too many questions.........................

"is that really a resignation? "

Not in any meaningful sense. Employees are often given the option BEFORE THE FACT of resigning rather than being terminated. But once your employer has announced their decision to terminate your employment, announcing that you are terminating your own employment a few days earlier doesn't make it a resignation so much as an early acceptance of their shoeprint on your ass. Or so it seems to me.

If Hendershit gets a felony conviction, they can revoke his retirement. Even if he does wait until the Cinco de Mayo, for his friring, he will still get his retirement. Both State Retirement and Public Safety retirement. DOJ should do a motion to suspend and surrender his passport. I'm just saying.....Foxx will go the whole nine yards to fight the termination, but the County will get Administrative Law Judge Merkow (County Whore Judge) to preside at his administrative hearing and Foxx will be SCREEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWED more than usual.

Dilemma: What if Hendershott, Black, Fox, and Bundgaard are all up for mugshot of the week? Who do we vote for?

Time for Arpaio to resign too. Joe, we're not buying the line you're selling that the Munnell memo covers everything and that the investigation done by your political ally Babeu closes the book on it.

Like you said at the Tea Party rally two weeks ago - it's time to hold our public officials' "feet to the fire" - are your shoes getting warm?

Hendershott has been very careful when around Arpaio since the time in 2008 when he tripped over the Sheriff's stretched out nut-sack and broke his knee.

I saw that Tommy. Also, the claim that Babeu's report has hundreds of false statements, errors, etc.

The Hendershott letter of 'resignation in lieu of termination' says it all.

A true professional would have written a professional letter. I it amusing that he misspelled Sheriff, as Sherff. I guess his spell check isn't working or he simply doesn't know how to use it.

It will be very good for MCSO to have him gone.

It will be even better when the Sherff is also gone.

You forgot to add arpaile o'shit to the list.

Black also resigned Tommy. I didn't know that. Apparently Lackey Blackie has a huge brown nose, just like Blimpie. He claims to be "loyal to the office and to the Flaccid Fool personally."

Agreed and well said.

"It will be very good for MCSO to have him gone."

This was the grand slam though:

"It will be even better when the Sherff is also gone."
