Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords plans to attend her husband's April 29, shuttle launch in Florida.

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords' condition continues to improve after she was shot through the brain during the January 8 rampage in Tucson, and her staff says she's doing so well that they're moving forward with plans for her to go to Florida for her astronaut husband's upcoming shuttle launch.

In a statement, Giffords spokesman C.J. Karamargin says staffers are moving forward with plans for her to leave rehab at the TIRR Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston and head to the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida for the April 29, launch.

Her plans, Karamargin says, are pending doctors' approvals.

Karamargin says the congresswoman won't meet with the media while in Florida, nor will she be issue a statement. He says he and Pia Carusone, Giffords' chief of staff, probably will speak at a news conference following the launch to discuss her reaction to the Space Shuttle Endeavor's final mission.

News of Giffords' plans comes as several Arizona Democrats wait to see if she's able to run for the Senate seat being vacated by Senator Jon Kyl.

Before to the shooting, Giffords was said to be considering a run for Kyl's seat. Even after the shooting, Giffords still is considered to be the favored Democrat to run -- if she's able.

Other Democrats rumored to be eying the seat include Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, Congressman Ed Pastor, and Arizona Board of Regents member Fred Duval.

I'm hoping she will be able to attend the launch, from the safety and security of the control room. Then she can return to Houston and continue her recovery. At some point she will make a decision about what she will want to do with the rest of her life. I don't see a need for her to return to politics, however. Let her live the remainder of her life in peace with her husband. We wish Senator Gifford the absolute best. Let's not forget all the other victims, as well.

Giffords has gone from being a shooting victim to a soon to be media event. She'll be paraded around to distract people from what's really happening in the world. Is there a time frame for when a congressman has to be back at work before losing their office? Probably, but it will never come up as a story in New Times. I wish her well. It's too bad she's going to be used for all the wrong reasons which will be justified with patriotic bullshit flowing out of every true American red, white and blue man, woman and child. They won't leave her alone when she gets to the point to when she can be used.
I call bullshit. I'm not sure why they are over playing Congresswoman Giffords recovery.
I guess Ms. Giffords is not the kind of lady to mess with. Three months ago she met up with Jared Loughner one final time. And now she's all but rehabbed... in Three Months. Wow. Gabrielle, May you always enjoy such successes in life. I wish you well. Steve Tracy of Phx.
