Murder Suspect Shot by Cops and Attacked by Police Dogs: "This is the Worst Day of My Life." Ya Think?

Alexander's bad day doesn't compare to the day 29-year-old Michael Trevino had yesterday.
If a day that includes getting charged with the murder of one of your buddies after he was shot by police during a botched home invasion, getting attacked by a police dog, and getting shot by cops, isn't the absolute worst day of your life, we'd love to know what is.

For a man involved in a Phoenix home invasion early yesterday morning, the aforementioned scenario did in fact make up "the worst day of [his] life," and once he recovers from the bullet wounds and the dog bites, he's facing a long list of charges, including murder.

According to court documents obtained by New Times, 29-year-old Michael Trevino, and at least five other men, knocked on the door of a home at 8836 West Monterosa Street in Phoenix about 3 a.m. yesterday.

The men claimed to be police, but once asked to show some identification by the homeowner, one of the suspects pistol-whipped and stabbed the man before demanding he turn over drugs, money, and jewelry.

Meanwhile, the homeowner's wife and daughter were in another room, and were able to call police.

As the armed men attempted to leave the house in the victim's car, the cops showed up. Officers demanded that the men drop their weapons, which they didn't, and a brief shootout took place in front of the house, leaving two suspects wounded on the ground. The others fled on foot into the neighborhood.

As officers approached one of the men, the wounded suspect reached for his gun. He was promplty shot a second time -- this time fatally -- by the officer.

The other wounded man, Trevino, suffered gunshot wounds and dog bites and was taken to an area hospital. It was there that he declared yesterday was "the worst day of my life."

Phoenix police spokesman Sergeant Trent Crump tells New Times Trevino remains hospitalized. When he's released, Crump says, he'll be charged with a laundry list of crimes, including murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, and burglary.

As for the remaining suspects, four of them were captured shortly after the shootout.

Samuel Stewart, 25, Daniel Perez, 22, Antonio Alvez, 22, and James Blanchet, 21, each have been charged with the same crimes as Trevino.

However, Stewart later told police there originally were eight people involved in the home invasion. So, with one dead, one in the hospital, and four in custody, it seems two suspects remain on the loose.
