Morning Poll: Is State AG Tom Horne the Latest to Cower to Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio?

Anything for you, Joe.
Last week, the much-anticipated SCA investigative report was released to the public (New Times staffers had a blast thumbing through some of the findings, which may or may not involve seducing a "live sheep." Check it out here and here).

The case involves the lies, corruption, and potential crimes committed by top brass in the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, including Sheriff Joe Arpaio -- but the state Attorney General's Office won't touch the case.

See state Attorney General Tom Horne's explanation below:

"When Attorney General, Tom Horne, assumed office on January 3, 2011, the Attorney General's Office had several pending investigations which were initiated by the previous administration. Some of those investigations involved present and/or past members of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, Maricopa County Attorney's Office and others. Members of the Attorney General's Office have consulted with members of the United States Attorney's Office and it has been determined that the United States Attorney's Office has investigated, or is investigating , the same matters as part of an on-going federal investigation.

The United States Attorney's Office has previously received authorization from the Maricopa County Attorney's Office to investigate and prosecute any potential state criminal charges which may arise in connection with the current federal investigation. Accordingly, the Attorney General has elected to defer to the federal authorities regarding said investigation and potential prosecutions arising from it."

As we noted last week, Horne could do something about it, but has "elected" not to.

Say what you will about Arpaio, but he's a pretty popular/powerful guy amongst Maricopa County GOPers, so he's not someone a fellow Republican wants to piss off. Apparently.

Not to mention, Arpaio and Horne have some bad blood stemming from the sheriff's running attack ads against Horne last year during the GOP primary for attorney general, in which Horne was facing Arpaio lapdog and former Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas.

The Arpaio-funded ad painted Horne as pro-statutory rape, and Arpaio wasn't even running for office. A judge ignored all that and decided to shoot down an injunction against the ad filed by Horne.

In other words, Horne's decision to not call Arpaio out on his BS appears to be the attorney general's attempt at either mending fences with the powerful sheriff, or, like many before him who've had the chance to nail America's self-proclaimed "toughest sheriff," he's a coward who doesn't want to further offend a powerful politico like Arpaio.

We want to know what you think: is Horne cowering to Arpaio by staying away from the SCA case?

Horne admin assistant, "Mr. Horne, a call for you on Line 2".

"Who's on the line?'.

"Someone from Armor Meat Company, sir".

"Any idea what the want?".

"Yes sir, they are conducting a nation wide hunt for the biggest weenie in the country. They said you have received the most votes in a national survey".

I think Horne knows something that he's not sharing with us. I suspect that if all the birds sing their tune (sooner rather than later) Horne may be a part of this investigation. I think he wants to remain as neutral as possible for what he knows may come his way. His little brian is probably telling him to stay out of it, he may just save himself if he needs to turn state's witness.

Sheriff Joe's only problem is stupid laws.

If a law is written, Sheriff Joe will enforce it.

He doesn't have (or elects not to use) the power of abstract thought, and therefore relies on legislators to steer his actions.

Change the laws, or get off Sheriff Joe's back.

When I first heard of this, I e-mailed Horne and told him that, in my opinion, he is a gutless piece of shit(my exact words). No reply as of yet.

Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne was useless as Superintendent of Schools.

He only became of use when he ran for Attorney General and knocked Candy Ass Thomas out of the GOP primary. That's the reason the Flaccid Old Fool is so pissed off.

Now that Horne is Attorney General, he is hiding "under his desk" from the Senile Old Geezer and his cronies over at MCSO.

The Flaccid Fool gains his power from seeing his sagging wrinkly face and hearing his gravelly, phlegm-infested voice on the idiot box. Now that the media is no longer paying attention to him (they're more focused on Joe's much younger clone, Pinal County Shurf Paul Buffoon), he is desparate for the attention and power he once craved, and he is not getting it.

I supposed the main reason why Mr. Hornes turned white as a ghost, is probably based on those smear attacks by the "Flaccid Fool". He saw what the joKKKer was capable of, and decided not to piss the old idiot off. I also think he knows what he is dealing with, when it comes to that geezer nutcaKKKe at the MSCO---he realized the Shurf is "mentally ill". So he decides to save his own face and become a cowardly lion.

Corrupt politicians covering for other Corrupt politicians, it's the Arizona way of doing Government business.

Arizona's voters are old and bigoted and have brought their bygone era forward having outlived voters in previous times. Meanwhile the young and those they want "cleansed" out of society are targeted for "easy convictions" that turn them into "convicts/felons" who cannot vote. Retirement states threaten young families, their education and future. They are "used" and abused and have to pay the price for this ongoing reign of terror which has gone on for too many years. Arizona's future looks dim.

I don't understand why is Arpaio so powerful? Where does he get his power from? CAn anyone explain how we the people of ARizona can't do nothing bout this.Everyone in this county is Afraid of him who gives him this power and who can take it away? This is so ridiculous for us to all be living in constant fear not even being able to live in Peace.

Seriously this fat *&($ ugly piece of a human being terrorizes everyone here in AZ and no one not even the President will step in and do something about it I just can't comprehend this its beyond words.

There are plenty of laws that AARPaio does not enforce. For example, he watched corruption and illegal activity flourish at MCSO and he laughed about it. The old man enforces laws when it is politically expedient.

What's Horne's e-mail address? I want to e-mail him and tell him he's a fucking useless, spineless coward. Makes me glad I supported Rotellini.

Johnny, do you suppose Hendershott is having to call in now to be a part of the staff meetings? If he's not there, who is the guiding light for that old piece of bat dung, I wonder? Jerry? Maybe...

Watch it FR, I'm 62 and I've thought Rpiehole is a douche-bag for years. It has nothing to do with age, but rather with having a value system based on humanity instead of fear and hate.

Arpaio is powerful. Lots want to strike him, but they are afraid to try unless they know it will be fatal.

Attacking enemies is fun for Arpaio. Nobody wants the retribution that WILL follow a failed strike.

Do you think that Horne, or the feds, are more likely to prosecute his alleged laughter?
