Morning Poll: Are Jan Brewer's "Day of Prayer" Proclamations Unconstitutional?

Jan Brewer thinks God will bail her our of Arizona's economic mess.
Arizona's economy is in the tank, the state has a pesky $1.15 billion budget shortfall to deal with, but fear not, Arizonans, Governor Jan Brewer's got a plan: prayer.

In January, the governor proclaimed a "Day of Prayer for Arizona's Economy and State Budget," which happens to be Jan's best idea to date when it comes to bridging the state's budget gap. Unfortunately, it does literally nothing to fix the problem -- but it does piss off the anti-religious crowd, which rather than just ignoring the governor's religious BS, files lawsuits.

See New Times' story on the matter here.

Members from the Freedom From Religion Foundation filed a lawsuit this week asking a federal judge to issue an injunction against future proclamations and declare that Jan's previous days of prayer were unconstitutional.

We want to know what you think: Jan's calls to prayer are obnoxious, they provide no earthly solution to the problem, but are they unconstitutional?

liberals are workin over time on this. as they need to stop the awareness of God to promote thheir actions. Lets see i can help them..................... in the declaration of indepencence (and most recognise it liberl and conservative) there are 3 inclusions of God , natures Gond and devine intervention. Because the prodestants had come here from England to practice their religion their way the church of England wanted long arms to keep these people in check. .................... So in the very first contract to the king of England they said in essence that The fore mentioned tyrant was plced on notice......................... And that if any (any governnent) Government that the people deamed as tyrannical or despotic in nature, it was the right; no the responsiblilty to remove that tyrannt. It was a blunt statement. ........................ Our Creator gave us the ability to be soverign. And as England was being the established tyrant, God gave us the ability through his Gods) partnership with the people of this nation to become a group of Republics with one central governent . To which this was to be supported by ( not the people for they were soverign) but the states. for the Constitution was a contract between the States and the federal government which i may add were servants to the people of those Republics...................... God was the mediator as common law was to be put into effect( ten commandments) has nothing to do with religion for todays religion, which in most cases takes on the aspects of the church of England( very liberal in nature) So the point here is that the ability to pray to God has been pre-empted by a liberalized sect with in the boundries of our should have been republics, subverting them today as very fascist in nature............................................. And the censure of any belief and revearing of God has been taken away by liberal aethyists who by censuring the people of God have also censured themselves in the process...................... Who won? The king of England 1787 by the hand of the Queen of England now in power thru the mega banking cartel and lord rothschild. 6 mega banks Rule and control mega Corporations that bow down to the NWO. good work liberals you did exactly what they wanted you to do.

OK all you wizards out there, show me where in the Constitution, that states are limited in ANY fashion excepting the specific duties and delegated powers to the federal government. +70%?? Obviously a bunch of atheist illegals, loading up the poll. What idiocy.

The construct of your 'poll' shows how biased you are. Why not just makeup your own number?

The elected idiots we the voters hired and are currently paying seem to believe that prayer will help them. I think not.

Back in ancient times (Sheriff Joe knows a thing or two about being ancient, don't ya, Joe?) people would pray to the gods for their crops to grow or to be successful in battle. They soon found out that the divine doesn't always intervene when needed. Hence the decline of all the successful empires in history.

I thought we had separation of church and state. Apparently not in Arizona.

Goldwater Institute, where are you?

We got thousands of Muslim Osama Bin Ladens praying at Capitol Hill so Governor Jan has every right for a real day of prayer. God help us.

Carmen, the fact that you make blanket statements against the worlds third largest religion is very telling of your personality. I see that the goal of dehumanizing an entire peoples was very successful on you, which puts your faults on display; as you are apparently very stupid, and easily influenced. Also, its appalling to think Jan, as a religious GOP member, has your approval to disregard the constitution (I.E. Separation of church and state). I'm sure you'd have a lot to say if Obama truly decided to disregard the constitution. God does not exist, although you have the freedom to believe in imaginary friends; I choose not believe, nor do I wish my states Governor to place hope in prayer with-out offering any real solutions. So please wake up, realize the difference between private citizens holding prayer, and an elected official who represents people of many faiths, we are not paying her for this.

I guess the people in Japan didn't pray hard enough.Yup, praying is obviously the best way to do things.

All she's got is a song and a prayer...no plans or ideas to really balance our budget.

She doesn't even have the moral terpitude to moderate our wakko legislature.

Actually, this would be a great opportunity for us to conduct an experiment. Let us record the current state of affairs with regard to the Arizona State Budget. Then let those who want to, do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING EXCEPT PRAY. Then check the state of affairs after a reasonable amount of time and see if there is ANY DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER! It's an opportunity to see if prayer can actually, I don't know, FIX ANYTHING?!

Lacey, no one asked for the sheep to bleat.

Separation of church and state is in the Constitution.

If anyone can prove that prayer has had any effect whatsoever on real world issues, I'll start going to church.

Lacey, you've been seen because you've shown yourself. You are an internet troll. No doubt planted by a troll master to stir up shit without offering anything of substance or intellect. Some of the things you've said here are no doubt against the law and considered terrorism by the U.S. government. You know of course that your internet address can always be seen by that same government.

It's hard to believe anyone in Wyoming has any real concept of what is happening here in AZ.. well you probably fail to grasp anything in reality. Good luck with your prayers, you're asking your god to support a women who will not fund medical care for citizens who's options are life or death.. she will however spend money on deliberating over a "state gun", and other worthless pieces of legislation. I'm sure she enjoys your spiritual support.I hope someone in the GOP supports fracking by the land you own, I'll pray for cancer... well I won't have to, as thats found to be inevitable.

My cousin, a Christian asked her brother (also my cousin, duh, also a Christian) if he would pray for her math test she was taking. He asked, "Did you study?" "No," she replied (at least she was honest). "Then no, I'm not praying for you. You should have studied."

Prayer; the easiest way to feel like your doing something, without having to do anything at all. When's the last time you've heard of a population being saved by prayer... rather than taking a proactive stance?

Your poll is flawed. You folks would have a great product if you weren't such fucking morons down there. JJ was brilliant in the early day crusades against Arpaio and he had legit information that was being ignored by the other media outlets but his presentation of the evidence was juvenile and boorish. This poll is simply a continuation of you idiots ruining a good thing. Lemmons has a nose for finding good stories, he's digging up one now based on the requests for info he's recently filed, but I'm certain he'll muck it up just like he always does. His credibility is shot as is this stupid rag's credibility and that frustrates those of us who would like to see real change and see the potential this paper has in aiding that change.

YPS, We disagree with you. Your attack on Stephen Lemons only confirms he's got it right. If it were not for him the rest of the media in Arizona would remain dormant.
