Afghan War Vet Fatally Shot by Glendale Cop -- After Shooting at Female Officer

Jeremiah Pulaski
Jeremiah Pulaski, 24, returned to his home in Glendale from Afghanistan -- where he served in the United States Army -- in February, and it appears he's had some trouble readjusting to society.

According to his latest Facebook status update, he was thinking about doing some traveling.

"I think Im gonna Just take off and work shitty jobs just to make enough to get to the next town. IM gonna be a drifter! I have a Rebel soul!" he posted on his Facebook page last Wednesday night.

He wasn't kidding about that rebel soul -- he fired off a few rounds at a Glendale cop early Saturday morning, which resulted in him being fatally shot by the female officer.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, Pulaski and a friend were leaving a restaurant near 59th Avenue and Greenway Road in Glendale about 1:30 a.m. Saturday when they were approached by a man they didn't know. The three engaged in a discussion, which turned violent -- Pulaski pulled out a gun and shot the stranger with whom he was talking.

He immediately fled on his beloved Harley Davidson motorcycle.

The Glendale officer was dispatched to the scene of the shooting and saw Pulaski fleeing the scene on his bike.

She stopped Pulaski, who once confronted by the officer, jumped off his bike and immediately started shooting.

The officer returned fire, and Pulaski hit the deck -- fatally wounded by the officer's shots.

Nobody other than Pulaski was seriously hurt in the shootings. The original victim was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury, and neither the officer, or a female "observer" who was riding with her were hit by any of the shots fired by Pulaski.

Judging by his Facebook page, Pulaski wasn't a happy dude. Some of his recent posts include things like "Ever just feal Like saying Just LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE! If you have a problem with my Life and the way I live it! then just keep your Mouth Shut because to Be honest I dont fucking care! Im doing what I can!," and "When Life gives you Lemons Say fuck the Lemons grab your Bike and go for a Ride."

Check out some of his other posts here.

I served with Pulaski at fort drum new York he was a hot head he did have a temper but he also had a great heart he stood up to our superiors for us when he felt we were getting fucked over he was willing to those his life so we all come back home and at times he pit his life at risk for the well being of us... I am sad his life ended the way it did. He use to tell us about his dreams his goals he was excited to get out of the army and live a normal life it almost been a year since this incident and I still can't believe it thank you P for everything you roughy me and for being tough on me I wish I could of done more to help you... May you rest in peace

the only way anyone would know what pulaski felt was if they were in the military. those of you who are too chicken to enlist will never know what this boy went thru. he had to basicaly go it alone, except for his family, because the very military he loved had turned it's back on him after he came home.

The war doesnt just end when you come home.  You have to fight its aftermath everyday.  Those that never actually went into combat (Not sit at a FOB) should keep their opionions to them selves.  You couldn't ever understand, until you go through it.  Pulaski saved my life in combat.  He Was and IS a Hero.  The war effects only 10% of the people in this country on a daily baises.  If you are part of the 90% that it doesn't then shut the #**# up.   Pulaski took all that he could handle and then some.  I think those that would joke and insult a soldier they don't know should go jump off a bridge.  If you said these things to me I would break my foot of in your A**.  People like pulaski are the reason you can be weak opinionated  asses.  Because they fight to keep it that way.  they don't want your pity but have earned your respect.  To those that were hurt by his actions, please remember that he did so more good in his live.

Jeremiah was such a good sweet young man, with a loving and supportive family who has been distraught over his PTSD for several years now, trying to do everything they could to get the military or anybody, to help him. They could see how much the things he had to see, do and experience in war had changed him to his core, and many, many of us have been fervently praying and trying to show our love and support for him for some time. The cries for help fell on deaf ears, in the military system, within his chain of command, and even after he came home to finish out his terminal leave from active duty. I am so deeply saddened by what happened, I pray for the man who was shot, and for his family, the officer and others involved. My heart breaks for them all. This incident leaves a lot of hurt and pain all the way around. But Jeremiah was a hero that honorably served our country and couldn't get past the mental wounds he had from war. It doesn't justify or excuse what he did,in any way, but the last day of his life can't define who he was, as well. Right now, there is a mom and dad out there, that just lost the sweet, smiling little boy they would have given up their own lives for. I ask each one of you to remember that when commenting. Those of us that knew Jeremiah and his family, will be forever be grateful for the sacrifices he made for this country, remain honored to have known him and most of all, we will miss him.

this guy wasnt hurting to bad financially if he can afford that $17,000 ++ HARLEY DAVIDSON he is sitting on at 24 years old. most guys cant afford a new HD bike till they are 50+ and had a good job for over 30 years. and thats a maybe. to be 24 and afford an HD bike like that is pretty lucky. sounds like this cat was a whiner sniveler and a complainer and mental wackadoo nut case gummy brain. I did 8 years and 9 months in SQ prison in california and when i got out i found a job and did well. i been doing well since 1989 when i got out. you gotta be a tough ass bastard to make it in this mean old world. the weak will be eaten alive like this punk.

Jeremiah Pulaski was a hero. Sept 11th bothered him and as soon as he was old enough he enlisted. He went to Iraq and fought two tours I believe and then went to Afghanistan. He saw almost 5 straight years of combat! When I saw him in January he was a quieter more guarded person than the man I met years before. You could see he had demons left over from the battlefield. He was a good guy. Although his actions aren't justifiable on the night he passed that doesn't erase who he was his prior 24 years. He was a good man. RIP JP

I grew up with Jeremiah Pulaski and he was a great guy.... I also was in the Army with him too.. I was stationed in Hawaii as he was in NY .. He did not get kicked out of the Army. Jeremiah did his 4 years honorably.... He went threw alot during his tour in Afghanistan and then when he came back they did not give him the help he needed... When your time is up they throw you to the curb.. The Army does not care what happens to you when you come back from war.. Your just a number to them.. Then when your time is up they send you packing. So like my self he was trying to find his place in life ie: get a job, school and try to catch up with your old buddys that you have not seen since you left for boot camp.. Jeremiah as well as my self had a hard time finding a job.. You go from having a nice income to having not a penny to your name.. So yess it is vary hard to come home and get use to the civilian life.. All I have to say is he will be missed vary much!!! May he RIP....

I was at this bar when this happened, and it wasn't a joke. It wasn't about harleys or military dysfunction when this innocent man was shot and lying in front of the bar door bleeding, and for all we knew at the time, dying second by second. This was a sick incident. And to make it about whether or not you should "smart off" to people who ride bikes just gives a bad name to the people who do know how to ride a motorcycle and still behave like a human being when they've had too much to drink, or heard something they didn't like. Have some sense when you're talking about people who are losing their lives over trivial garbage.

I do have to give credit for Mr. Pulaski for serving in our military and fighting Al-Qaida and the Taliban. Apparently Mr. Pulaski suffered from PTSD and had no idea he had help available from the VA. Mr. Pulaski, I salute and thank you for your service in our military.

Mr. Pulaski was stupid when he shot at the Glendale officer, though. While a notice of claim may be filed in the wake of this tragedy, I doubt that Mr. Pulaski's family will win, given ARS 13-404 and all.

I don't know who you are, but I wouldn't mind sitting down and talking with you about this at some point...if you would be up for it. I know seeing something like this can make it hard to talk about, but it might ease my mind if I could here more about what really happened. You may also want to know that Jason is doing very well in his recovery, considering the circumstances. He is not in a coma and doesn't have serious brain damage like one post I saw said. He is still in ICU breathing through a respirator, but it appears that he's going to be fine over time. He has a long road of rehab and recovery ahead of him, but he is unbelievably strong willed and has the desire to do whatever it takes to make it all the way back! Get back to me through here if you would be up for this. If not, I understand...and if you were one of the citizens who stayed by Jason's side and/or helped comfort his wife and keep her inside so she wouldn't see it, I sincerely thank you!

Jeremiah did seek help from the VA last week. Even though he was in crisis they did not find the time to help him. While most of these posts are just ridiculous there are a few that have pretty much nailed it on the head. As a disabled police officer myself, those involved will more than likely receive more debriefing than most of our soldiers do when they come back from the most extreme circumstances. I too know this because my son is a soldier, serving two tours in Iraq. The one thing that we all need to remember is that this is a lose/lose situation for everyone. EVERYONE is the victim here. The man still in the hospital, the officer that only wanted to make a difference, not end someone's life, and the family and friends of SPC Pulaski. I guess I would ask you all to consider how you would feel if this were your child. Could you be told what to do at 24 especially after going through 4 years of service to your country? I am sympathetic to everyone here. I don't condone what Jeremiah did but then NO ONE will know what he was thinking when this occurred. It has nothing to do with what you chose to drive, what you chose to wear, or what is said it simply is a tragedy. Please think about the family that will surely read this at some point and if you need to comment show some courtesy and intelligence. My prayers to the family of the gentleman that was shot and to the officer who will have to live with this. My thanks to Jeremiah and all our other soldiers who serve in the name of freedom. RIP Jeremiah.

I am very happy to know that he is not in a coma. He's honestly not left the mind of my friend and I, who were there when all of it unfolded. I don't mind talking about it. It was hard to see, and I still can't wrap my mind around all of what we saw that night, but I feel like the more I've talked about it, the more it has helped me develop thoughts and feelings about it. Reading what the media has made it sound like makes me question whether or not they're even referencing the event that I saw take place. I've seen a lot of people respond like there was an altercation, or a hostile argument between the two men, but that wasn't what we saw take place. Jason was extremely friendly the entire night. We sat about one person away from he and his wife. They both approached me that evening, and we engaged in friendly conversation. His wife, worried that Jason had disturbed me, came up to apologize. I assured her it wasn't necessary, and the three of us had a pleasant exchange. They excused themselves to go outside for what I assumed was going to be a cigarette break (I wasn't sure--I remained where we were with a small group of friends). It was winding down, and the bar had thinned out considerably. I don't ever remember seeing the shooter inside Tony's Cocktails. My friend and I had speculated that maybe the shooter and alleged friend (that we've since heard nothing about, or his whereabouts) were coming from Kimmyz (another bar in the complex) for last call (because his bike was also parked by Kimmyz), and that's when the contact with Jason was made while he was outside. What I gather probably happened was he overheard the shooter and his friend talking about their tour of duty and responded with his comment about the Marines. It was quiet enough in the bar (it was about 1:25am -- several people had left) that we would've heard a hostile argument. We would've seen people go outside to see what was happening if there was an escalation of tempers. I've never seen a bar fight where there weren't swarms of people going outside to see what was going on, or to be a looky-lou. That didn't happen. It was quiet, and there was a pop. The next thing I saw was Jason falling back into the doorway, losing a lot of blood. It was surreal. I thank all the people who called 911, because the bar staff was useless. I understand that it was traumatic, but it was like watching statues. Especially when you're not sure if the man has seconds, minutes, hours--move--time is precious. Patrons are hysterical, trying to get out as quickly as they could. So many were near Jason, trying to do chest compressions, and trying to make sure pressure was applied to avoid more blood loss. What sickened me is we watched the shooter WALK to his vehicle. Not run, like someone who'd shot someone should've. He rode off casually like there wasn't a care in the world. He got no farther than Cactus and 51st Avenue. If you know the area, that's not far. Not as far as I'd expect someone who'd just shot a man would be. The sound of his wife crying and her continued screams "this did not happen" will be with those of us who were there forever. I have continued to keep them both in my thoughts, hoping that he and his family can live normally again. I've read "non-life threatening" too many times. Just because a person doesn't die doesn't mean they will LIVE normally again. And as I witnessed that night, just because you're living doesn't mean you're living well, as the shooter proved. There are those of us out there that will continue to keep Jason, his family, and the others who were there that night in our thoughts and good will.

Pulaski's friend was my little brother and by how he described it, obvious suicide. My brother kept saying that he couldn't understand why jeremiah did what he did cuz according to my bro, the guy didn't even do or say anything-just gave my bro a smoke and then it happened. I'm sorry for this guy i really am, it's unfortunate and unfair, but just shows you how chaotic the world we live in really is- so maybe the lesson here could be to always cherish every moment you possibly can with the ppl you love cuz u just never know what could go down. According to my lil bro, who was like a brother and vice-versa to Pulaski in the army, the guy was a hot-head, but as well as he thought he knew him, he never could've seen this coming. Namste-
