Lake Montezuma Man Busted Luring "Minor" for Sex. By "Minor," We Mean Cops Posing as One

William Adams, like many before him, learned the hard way that the "kid" you think you're chatting with on the Internet -- more times than not -- is actually the cops.

Seriously? Seriously? Even after the Chris Hanson To Catch a Predator series, there still are perverts out there who seem to think the "kid" they're chatting with online isn't a cop -- which is almost always the case, and is exactly what happened to a Lake Montezuma man last month.

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, 58-year-old William Adams started chatting it up online with a person he believed to be a 13-year-old girl.

Adams and the girl chatted daily, and on several occasions, and he talked about numerous sex acts he wanted to do with the girl.

The "girl," of course, actually was detectives scouring the Internet on perv patrol, so they played along.

During one of the conversations between Adams and the girl, he agreed to pick her up near her fictitious home in Prescott, and drive her back to his real house in Lake Montezuma -- presumably for sex. At one point, authorities say, he even suggested the girl run away from home and move in with him.

Last week, Adams arranged a time to meet the girl at a restaurant in Prescott and drive her -- and her fictitious bike -- back to his house in Lake Montezuma, again, presumably for sex.

You know who didn't show up at the restaurant? A 13-year-old girl. You know who did? The cops, who took Adams into custody.

Adams has been charged with three counts of luring a minor for sex. He remains in custody at the Camp Verde Detention Center on $40,000 bond.
