After Re-Living Fatso Cream-Cheese "Tweet," Grant Woods Says He'll "Look at" Running for Senate

Senator Grant Woods?
Announcing that you're considering running for U.S. Senate after telling a story about fatsos and their love of cream cheese is an interesting campaign tactic -- and it's one Former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods pulled out this morning on live TV.

Woods, a.k.a. the best "Twitterer" in Phoenix, said this morning that he's considering running for the Senate seat being vacated by Senator Jon Kyl.

Woods appeared on ABC 15's Now@9, where after some banter about being named "Best Twitterer" by New Times, and reliving a "Tweet" he posted about a fatso ordering too much cream cheese on a bagel, he made the announcement.

"I'm gonna look at Senator Kyl's Senate seat," he says. "But if I did it, I would do it as an Independent, not as a Republican or Democrat."

Woods will have some competition should he take the plunge and run for Senate, regardless of party affiliation. Congressman Jeff Flake has already announced his candidacy for the office, and several other Republicans are rumored to be considering a run, as well -- including
Woods' old (ahem) pal, former TV pitchman J.D. Hayworth.

Woods is well-known for referring to Hayworth as "Foghorn Leghorn," and routinely bashes the former congressman.

The two got into it in Twitter-town last year during the GOP Senate primary.

In an interview with Newsweek in April of last year, Woods, talking about Hayworth, joked: "Someone needs to drive a wooden stake through this guy's heart."

Hayworth interpreted the quip as a death threat and demanded an apology. He didn't get one, rather, he got a "Tweet" from the former attorney general that just fanned the flames -- and it was hilarious.

"OK. Enough with JD Hayworth and his Dracula wooden stake paranoia. I think we can put a fork in him. Oh no, did I do it again?" Woods "tweeted."

The exchange was dubbed "Dracula-gate," and is well-documented here, and here.

Woods acknowledges the possibility of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords -- who is currently recovering at a Houston hospital after being shot during the January 8, Tucson shooting rampage -- potentially running. Should that happen, Woods says, he would not run.

"I would like nothing better than to have her make this fantastic comeback have her run, and I would get behind her," Woods says of Giffords.

Should Woods run, which we don't actually see happening, we don't anticipate he'll have much success attracting the fat vote, which -- if you click here you'll see -- makes up a (pardon the pun) huge portion of the Arizona electorate.

See Woods' appearance on ABC 15 below.

Keep in mind that this is the same Grant Woods who declined to be Phoenix mayor. After all, we all know that he'd be better than Mayor Phil Gordon.

I really don't picture Mr. Woods running for U.S. Senate. However, I do believe that he would truly benefit the people of Arizona by seeking a judgeship.

Judge Grant Woods sounds a lot better, don't you think?

I don't think women of any size need worry. After all, he admitted to wanting to look at Kyl's seat.
