"Birther Bill" Fails in Senate Judiciary Committee. Score One for Sanity

Arizona's "Birther Bill" has failed...again.
We are happy to report that the "Birther Bill" has failed in the state Legislature -- yet again.

Jeanette Tejeda de Gomez, spokeswoman for state Senate Democrats, confirms to New Times that the "Birther Bill," proposed by numb-Skull Valley Republican Judy Burges, has failed in the Senate Judiciary Committee, thus sparing Arizona any further humiliation.

The bill, as you may recall, would have required anyone who wants to run for president or vice-president to prove their U.S. citizenship before their name's allowed on the ballot in Arizona -- even though it happens to already be a federal requirement to land either job.

The problem with the bill (aside from it already being a federal law), as we've mentioned in other posts, is that it seems to be in direct response to the repeatedly debunked controversy over President Barack Obama's citizenship and the right-wing conspiracy theorist "birther" movement. Birthers, as you know, are tin-foil-helmet-wearing whack-jobs, so the bill didn't do much to help the state's already bad rep.

Senator Kyrsten Sinema said it best in a Twitter post this afternoon -- she calls the bill's failure a "Small measure of redemption for my great state."

While Jan Brewer's still running the entire state, we suppose we'll have to celebrate every little victory we can get.

Dam James King what a loser you are! Can you be anymore bias in you reporting. Stop being a drone and believing what you are told and get a life. I am not a birther but as an American Citizen I should be allowed to see the public records that are required to run for office on any level. You make it a point to state that it is already a Federal Law but the Federal Government has not done its job in the past 10 years so if I want to see the documents that make someone eligible of office then I should be able to see them with my own eyes and not just believe what someone tells me, especially when journalism is dead as you make so clear in you demeaning name calling chicken scratch. You should be fired!!!!!

Sorry Kirsten, with the load of bills being offered by our legislature that would be cut from the movie "Dumb and Dumber" for being too stupid, the loss of one provides no "redemption." Arizona is still "the meth lab of Democracy."

How much did this waste of time cost the taxpayers while the dire issues that plague the State of Arizona and it's people continue to be ignored?

They knew it would fail, it seems as if it was a purely symbolic act.. now why don't we ask the legislator how much of tax-payer money was wasted on this shit.People are dying Jan.. and here you are, really tackling the hard shit eh?You shouldn't have even succeed in getting your GED, much less retain the position you fell into..

Joe, are you willing to pay for the trip to Hawaii to satisfy your personal curiosity or are you willing to believe someone else, let's say the (former) Republican Governor of Hawaii? Where in the Constitution does it say the federal government has the right to override the privacy laws enacted by the states?

If you don't believe the federal government and the political parties have done their due diligence while vetting their candidates, you are either a birther or extremely naive.

I could also suggest that you stop being a drone and believing what you are told.

You can see President Obama's certificate, for 100$ you can have Hawaii send you his official birth-certificate.. isn't that enough?Oh, you want to see the long-form hospital certificate W/ his baby foot prints? Well Joe, good luck; because I can assure you, that you could go visit the hospital you were born in, and they wouldn't release your own long-form even to you. Alas, I'm sure this wouldn't be enough for you.. so lets advocate, while the state is bleeding money, we get the state legislator to do something about it! Other matters of true pressing importance be damned!
